I'm still not ready to bid farewell to the magic of the holiday season, and I couldn't be more thrilled that this game has arrived just in time. Shopping Clutter 2: Christmas Square is all about helping a lovable family of animals get their town square ready for Christmas.
I've already written about the first part of this game, where the critters were decorating a kids' playground. Now, they're gearing up for the big winter holiday.The gameplay can be described in a few different ways - it's either about finding items or clearing clutter. I personally prefer the latter, because the core of the game is about hunting down hidden items amidst a messy pile.
There are 20 levels in total, with 8 levels in each chapter. 7 of them are about finding items, and the last level is a puzzle.
Each new level becomes available after completing the previous one. The gameplay is straightforward - just click on the level icon to get started.As soon as you start, you're shown a window with the level's objectives and some details about the level's twists.
The item-finding aspect is a bit different each time. Sometimes, you'll need to pick out items of the same type from a pile, but more often than not, you'll be searching for matching pairs.
But even here, there are conditions - some levels require finding items of different sizes, colors, or the same.
Given the holiday theme, you'd expect most items to be Christmas-themed, but that's not always the case.
Alongside the items, you'll also find yellow suns - these are bonus tokens that help you earn hints. Hints are shown on the left side of the screen, along with the level's progress and the number of hints you've collected.
I have to say, I rarely need hints, but these little guys take up valuable space on the main game board, so I recommend quickly removing them at the start of each level to clear the view of other objects. Plus, you get extra points for the remaining hints. Next to the hints, you can see the time taken to complete, the number of items to collect, and the points earned.
As you progress through the levels, they get a bit more challenging, like this one with silhouettes of items. These ones are a bit tougher to complete.
There are levels where items are grouped together in a single pile and you need to pick them apart as you search. You can move items around on any level.
Then there are broken items and you need to find the matching halves.
Or search for items only from a limited list on the right-hand panel. The item will change after finding each required one.
This isn't all the types of main levels, but there are a few more variations of puzzles - all with the same goal: collect items according to the given parameter. At the end of each chapter, there's a puzzle. It's a picture puzzle where you move squares in different ways to complete the image.
Or find pairs by opening tile pieces.
After completing each chapter, you're rewarded with an item to decorate the area.

Overall, the game is pretty straightforward and suitable for both kids and adults. The colorful graphics and cute animal characters in a cartoon style make it a joy to play.
