Sheraton Abu Dhabi Review: A Family's Perfect Getaway

We recently spent a week at the Sheraton Hotel & Resort Abu Dhabi, and I'm still reeling from the experience.

Our travel agent friend recommended this hotel, and I can see why it's a favorite among travelers.

We arrived in Abu Dhabi in January 2026, eager to explore the city and its surroundings. The hotel's a bit far from popular attractions like the Sheikh Zayed Mosque and the Presidential Palace, but it's got its own beach, which won me over.

I won't comment on the room price, as it varies depending on the season. My husband booked it, and he said hotels in Abu Dhabi are generally cheaper than those in Dubai. When booking, we asked for a child's bed, but we didn't expect it to be included in the price.

The hotel's massive and architecturally impressive, with a unique design that reminded me of capsules. I had no idea what to expect, but it all made sense when we checked in.

Check-in was at 2 pm, and check-out was by 11 am. We arrived in the evening, and our room was ready.

My first impression of the hotel was that everything was top-notch. The marble floors were a real touch of luxury, and my daughter immediately said she'd love to live here.

We were put on the third floor with a room that had a city view. The room's layout was a bit of a concern, as it was almost identical to the one at the Holiday International in Sharjah last year, which was right next to the elevator. However, the elevator ran almost silently, and the room's soundproofing was decent.

The room itself was pretty standard, with a single large bed. In the UAE, kids stay for free if they sleep in the same bed as their parents, but you'll have to pay extra for an additional bed.

Unlike the Holiday Inn in Dubai, where the windows didn't even open, we were thrilled to find a fully opening balcony door here. Although we couldn't keep it open due to the street noise, we could at least hang our clothes to dry. The bonus was the beautiful view from the window.

The room was small but cozy, with everything we needed: a TV, fridge, safe, wardrobe, hair dryer, ironing board and iron, tea kettle, tea and coffee, water, and even bathrobes.

The bed was big and comfortable, with clean, whole sheets. We had enough pillows.

Before even seeing the room, we asked if there was a bed for our kid. They told us no, but since we'd requested it, they'd bring one over. Once we settled in, we noticed that one wall of the room was semi-circular and had a small couch built into it.

My daughter immediately said she'd sleep on the foldable bed, and my 10-year-old son had plenty of room on it. When the hotel staff brought in a regular bed, we decided to skip it to avoid cluttering the room. They just brought in an extra blanket for the kid.

It was nice because after staying at the Irbis hotel in Dubai for one night, they charged us 50 dirhams for an extra bed – and that was 'on the house', but normally it costs 100 dirhams.

The room wasn't new, but it was really nice. Everything was clean and tidy.

They had all the toiletries you'd expect, including a hair conditioner. The shower cubicle was big and comfortable. They also provided a toothbrush set, a shower cap, a sewing kit, and some other little extras.

The hairdryer was decent – not like the Valera one that either doesn't dry your hair or sets it on fire. It's not top-notch, but it's good enough to get your hair looking neat.

The ironing board was clean, as was the iron – no leftover grime from previous guests.

One of the standout features for me was the comfort and overall vibe of the place. It's got everything you need.

The beach and pool were a major draw for me. From the photos, I wasn't entirely sure how it all worked out.

The hotel has its own little territory, which is pretty nice considering it's smack in the middle of the city. There are two pools – one's a kiddie pool with a slide, and the other's a bigger one with heating. We were there in January, and the air was around 25 degrees Celsius, while the pool was a toasty 26-27 degrees. The deepest part of the pool is 1.5 meters.

The view is pretty cool – you can see the glass skyscrapers. It's definitely a unique experience.

There are loungers scattered around the pool area and the rest of the territory, but most of them are in the shade. If you want to get some sun, you'll need to head to the beach.

When you leave the hotel to head to the beach area, they give you towels, and you need to sign a register and note your room number.

I have to say, the 'private beach' we'd seen advertised online turned out to be a pretty small patch of land with a tiny cove. It's not like you'd have the open ocean right there. Plus, there's no surf or red flag warning like you'd see on a bigger beach. But it's shallow enough that you can still wade in.

The sea was pretty cool (22 degrees Celsius), so most people stuck close to the pool. The hotel's massive, with tons of people, but somehow we still managed to snag some free sunbeds. No one was bothering anyone else. The beach gets tidied up every evening. There's a beach bar, but it was always empty (I guess because the prices were way too high). The hotel also has its own gym with an ocean view.

I have to admit, the reality of the beach didn't quite live up to the pictures, but I still had some idea of what to expect. I'd give the beach area 4 out of 5. The thing is, there's some construction debris scattered right in the water, bits of paving stone, and even a pipe sticking out. That's just weird. On the other hand, the shoreline was spotless, and the hotel staff were actively picking up trash from the sea. The beach's photogenic factor is definitely a plus.

I'll never forget the Sheraton in Abu Dhabi for its amazing breakfasts.

Breakfast is served from 6:30 to 10:30, and the restaurant is big and spacious, but if you show up close to the end, you might not find a free table. If you want to avoid the crowds, I'd recommend going between 8 and 9 am.

The breakfast selection is huge. You'll find everything from a classic continental breakfast to local dishes.

There's always a meat platter, and every day they have some kind of fish (either smoked or pickled). And of course, there's always something potato-related on the menu.

I've had my fair share of breakfasts, but this one was a treat. They whipped up an omelette or scrambled eggs to perfection, and the freshness of the greens, salads, and veggies – I'm talking cucumbers, tomatoes, and carrots – was impressive. And let's not forget the coffee, which was decent, to say the least. Of course, you could make your own coffee, but the staff would often come by and offer to bring you another cup.

The spread of baked goods, pastries, and sweet treats was impressive. I also spotted some decent hummus, fresh and canned fruits, and even options for making toast, oatmeal, or cereal.

My breakfast routine usually consisted of three rounds: snacks, the main course (an omelette with veggies), and for dessert, I'd whip up a fruit salad.

My husband and daughter would follow up with some baked goods – I hardly ever eat them at home, let alone on vacation. Our breakfast package included a yogurt cup and an apple, which no one prevented us from enjoying. My daughter devoured it after a dip in the pool.

Breakfasts at the Sheraton? 10 out of 10 – delicious, varied, and catering to every taste. The only quirk was the lack of paper napkins on the tables. We had to ask the staff for cloth ones.

I was also impressed with the room cleaning. It's weird, but in all the hotels in the UAE where we stayed, room cleaning included changing the sheets and towels. Sometimes we'd return from the beach with sand on our feet, but it was clear the floor hadn't been vacuumed. Maybe we should've asked for that extra service. Each day, they'd bring us two 0.5-liter water bottles per person, including the kid. The towels were always replaced without a word. And, unlike another hotel we stayed at, where the cleaner would call us at 8 am to ask when we'd be leaving, the staff here were quiet and unobtrusive.

The hotel's internet is great throughout the entire property. However, the outlets are Arabic-style, so it's a good idea to bring an adapter. Our room had USB outlets, which was super convenient for charging phones.

We were able to book a free shuttle to Yas Island from the hotel, but only if we had tickets to some event or activity there. I'm not sure about the schedule, but it's definitely an option.

The Sheraton hotel is right on the Corniche waterfront, which is a beautiful spot for evening strolls. To be honest, there aren't many other great places to walk around in this part of town.

We only had breakfast paid for, so we ended up eating at some Pakistani street food joints. I actually prefer the breakfast service in Dubai, though – it's just more convenient. We had a bit of a hard time finding a decent place to eat, and we even ended up at a few spots that weren't that great. But there are some familiar options like McDonald's and KFC just a few blocks away.

All in all, I'd give the Sheraton 5 stars. I'd definitely recommend it to friends and would love to come back here again.
