I'm obsessed with Shea Moisture, and for good reason. Their Manuka Honey Yogurt Hydrate Repair Protein Power Treatment is literally their best-seller, and for good reason. Whenever I want to get perfectly defined curls without any surprises, I only use Shea Moisture. Their products always deliver an amazing, predictable result.
This review is part 2 of my love affair with this product. I've got a lot to cover, so let's dive in.
First things first, I was looking for a mask that would provide some serious moisture without weighing my hair down. I've tried plenty of hydrating masks that left my curls looking limp and lifeless, so I was hoping this one would strike the right balance. And, spoiler alert, it totally delivers.
So, what makes this mask so special? For starters, it's packed with moisturizing ingredients like manuka honey and yogurt that really deliver. I was also excited to see how well it would add shine to my hair. I've got 2b/2c curls, and I'm always on the lookout for products that will give me that gorgeous, healthy-looking shine.
But here's the thing: I wasn't just looking for a mask that would moisturize and add shine. I wanted one that would also help smooth out my curls and make them easier to manage. I've got a bit of a wild mane, and I'm always looking for ways to tame the frizz and make my hair more cooperative.
And, let's be real, I was also curious to see if this mask would contain any protein to help strengthen my curls and give them a bit more oomph. The good news is that it does, and it really delivers.
So, how do you use this amazing mask? The product instructions suggest using it as a treatment for 10-15 minutes, or as a deep conditioning mask left on for up to an hour. I opted to use it as a regular mask, applying it to my hair after shampooing and leaving it on for 30-40 minutes.
Now, I'll be the first to admit that the texture of the mask is a bit thick and gloopy, which made it a bit tricky to apply evenly. And, I have to say, it didn't do a great job of detangling my hair, either - I had to use a comb to get out the knots.
But, despite my initial reservations, the results were actually pretty impressive. After rinsing out the mask, my hair felt super soft and silky, and it looked amazing - the curls were defined, and the frizz was under control.
To give you a better idea of how well this mask works, I've included some before-and-after pics below. In the first set of photos, I used the mask as a treatment followed by a leave-in conditioner and a gel. Unfortunately, the combination of the mask and the leave-in conditioner left my hair feeling super heavy and weighed down. The curls were limp, and the hair looked greasy.
In the second set of photos, I used the mask and then applied a protein gel to help strengthen my curls. The results were much better - the hair looked healthy, and the curls were defined.
So, what's the verdict? I'm really impressed with this mask, and I'd definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a product that will provide some serious moisture without weighing their hair down. It's a game-changer, folks!
One-word review: 'Perfect balance of moisture and protein.' It smoothed out all my frizz, defined curls, and added a gorgeous shine. My ends are even hydrated! I'm so glad I made the switch to the curly girl method – dryness is a thing of the past! For anyone with damaged or colored hair, please keep this in mind when purchasing. For the rest of us, it's a total steal!
