Seven Gnomes School Books Fell Flat for My Little One

summarizeEditor's Summary

I was at my wit's end trying to find the perfect educational resources for my three-year-old. Between all the flashy ads and endless options, it's hard to know what's really worth your money. I tried a few different sets, but nothing seemed to click until I stumbled upon the Seven Gnomes School Books from OOO Mozaika Synthesis. My kid's a happy-go-lucky sort who loves anything colorful and fun, so I was excited to see if these books would be a hit. The Seven Dwarfs series just didn't cut it for us - he'd flip through the books, and I'd try to hide a few, but that was about it. On the other hand, the gnomes from the same set have been a total game changer for our daily routine. They're engaging, easy to follow, and perfect for my child's learning style.

I was drowning in a sea of educational resources for my three-year-old, and I had no idea which one would be the best fit. I tried a few different options, but nothing seemed to click.
My kid's a happy-go-lucky sort who loves anything colorful and fun, but the Seven Dwarfs series just didn't cut it for us. He'd flip through the books, and I'd try to hide a few, but that was about it.
On the other hand, the gnomes from the same set have been a hit during our playtime.
Manufacturer: OOO Mozaika Synthesis Country: Russia Age: 3+ Content: 12 workbooks Price: 1500 rubles with a discount Where to buy: Ozon, VTB, Detsky Mir.
The annual course comes in a box like this one. As a newbie mom, I thought it was some weird packaging at first, but it's actually pretty common for offline resources like this.
I've only seen it at Detsky Mir before.
Seven Dwarfs 3-4 years. Complete annual course (12 books in a gift box) Daria Denisova
It's made of thin cardboard, which holds up okay, but if you plan on storing it like this, it's a good idea to keep the inner box intact.

Seven Gnomes School 3-4 years. Full annual course (12 books in a gift package) Daria Denisova Inside, the notebooks are stored like this. Not super convenient to unpack, to be honest.
Seven Gnomes School 3-4 years. Full annual course (12 books in a gift package) Daria Denisova The set includes 12 working notebooks. The cover quality is good, and the color scheme really caught my kid's attention. I spent ages deliberating over them.
Seven Gnomes School 3-4 years. Full annual course (12 books in a gift package) Daria Denisova Each notebook focuses on a specific topic that a three- to four-year-old should know, according to general educational standards. But, the description says these books are way ahead of the curriculum.
Learning
What did we do? We tried to do something every day for about 30 minutes, but my kid just wasn't into these books. I mean, they're supposed to be about speech and memory, but the tasks are way too advanced for a kid of that age.
I'm not sure if I'm just not cut out for this, but I think the format should be more engaging. First of all, there's a lot of 'show and tell' stuff, and not enough focus on motor skills in my opinion. It should be the other way around. Until a kid develops attention, speech development isn't going to happen, so the books should be super engaging.
But these just feel like old Muraznik magazines, and I'm trying to use them to teach my kid and make it all look cool and interesting. Maybe it's because school textbooks are released in this format, not like cartoons. That's a paradox.
The two lower books from the collage weren't really appealing to my kid.

But when it comes to logic and reasoning, I actually liked the pictures – they're more colorful than the ones in the math section, which I thought was a nice touch.

We did study the theme of machines, but it didn't really hold our attention for long. The same with the animals theme. I'm not sure, maybe we needed to release 2-3 more books or something, but the format just didn't work for us.
I didn't want to work with them either. But our disappointment was short-lived – we found a suitable replacement.

I was talking to some high schoolers recently and saw their textbooks, and I was surprised to see they're still using the same books I used 15 years ago.
My son loves the bright, high-quality pictures, so we always incorporate engaging materials into our lessons.
Memory. The only thing that comes to mind is rhymes, but for kids this age, it's tough to memorize, and the sheets don't really allow for it.
I'm not even talking about kids who get distracted easily. Our son is exactly like that - he needs to see all the pages before he can even think about moving on.
With detachable sheets, it would be so much easier, in my opinion. On the one hand, I feel bad, and on the other hand, it's just not convenient.
Counting, shapes, and size - our son covers everything without even opening the sheet, and grammar lessons... I don't know. We're not really into rhymes, and it's too early for that anyway.

Fine motor skills. There's not much of that. For drawing lines, there aren't as many tasks as you might think at first glance.
The main focus is on various topics that might interest a child of this age, but... they just don't seem to be interested.
Cutting out shapes also doesn't really appeal to them. To be honest, the quality of the sheets themselves is pretty poor, and for a child to interact with the materials, they need to be pleasant, but that's not the case here.
The sensory experience of the sheets is not enjoyable, and the cardboard used for the cut-out details is also not great.
I mean, even as an adult, I'm not a fan, and for a child, it's even worse.
Below are the two worst notebooks.

One thing that caught my eye was the fact that the activity sheets for fine motor skills in the notebooks come with stickers and shapes for cutting out.
Unfortunately, neither the stickers nor the shapes were included.
We did try to cut out some squares a few times, but it's tough for a 3-year-old to do without a base to insert.
Orientation in space isn't really developed in kids at this age, at least not in ours.
But, as I'm writing this review, my child is 3 years and 8 months old, and it's not a problem anymore.
The collage below was actually quite interesting to me, but the cutting activity didn't quite work out, and we're not fans of it.

Stickers are a separate issue. They're thin, and my child found them hard to grasp.
They're also quite small, and sometimes they wouldn't come off the sheet.
After a few frustrating moments, my child completely lost interest in using them.
It all started with the story of 'Kurachka Ryaba', where you have to stick stickers according to the story, and then the mouse breaks the egg, and it just ends.
We didn't go back to the books after that.
Although, we did use the stickers for other purposes, like making a base for a game or something like that.
So, which one should you get? My answer is: The 'I Can Cut and Stick!' workbook for 3-4 year olds
Various themes Attractive cover Presence of stories, as there are not many in the original book
Poor quality of paper and printing
My Disappointing Experience
I've got to say, the books themselves are pretty well thought out, but I was expecting better quality in terms of the images and materials.
Overall, I wouldn't recommend this product to anyone, so I'll be passing on the recommendation.
