My Disappointing Experience with SeeMe's New Mask
I recently got my hands on SeeMe's new mask, and I've got to say, it's been a bit of a mixed bag for me. I actually stumbled upon this mask in a beauty box, and it's not the first time I've found a surprise from this brand - I reviewed their previous mask here.
The packaging is pretty, but it's not exactly eye-catching. I wouldn't have picked it up from the shelf at first glance, 100%. The design is nice, but it doesn't really stand out from other products in the same category.
I love the way it opens - not just from the top, but with a little tab that you pull from the side. It's a nice touch, but it's a bit finicky. You need to be gentle when opening it, or it might not stay open.
As soon as you start to tear it off, it starts to fall apart. It's a bit frustrating, to be honest. The texture of the mask itself is kind of like old, separated sour cream, but more yellow - there are these weird lumps in it that don't really feel like a scrub, but I'm not sure what they're for.
The inside of the packaging has some extra info about the product, but it's a bit of a strain to read. The text is in white on a pale blue background, so you have to squint or get up close to see it. Honestly, it would be easier to just print it in black and white.
The ingredients list includes amber powder, niacinamide, taurine, and a blend of vitamins. I was happy to see the ingredients listed on the outside of the packaging - it's way more readable.
I was a bit worried when I saw the ingredients, but I decided to give it a try anyway. The previous mask from this brand left me covered in flakes after just two uses. This one, on the other hand, had me flaking out - literally, the next day.
The expiration dates are normal, so I'd say you've got at least another six months of use left in it.
As for giving my skin a healthy glow, that's a bit of a toss-up. The mask doesn't leave any visible changes on the surface, but it does feel slightly more moisturized and soft to the touch.
The 75ml size is pretty decent, and I'd estimate I get about 7-10 uses out of it.
I like that the tube came with a clear plastic seal - that way, I know I'm using the product for the first time, and I can trust the expiration dates aren't compromised.
The packaging design is pretty, but the font is a real challenge to read - especially when the blue background is semi-transparent and everything starts to blur. I usually toss the cardboard boxes, so I need to check the ingredients. Trying to do that with the tube is a real pain.
The lid is flip-open and stays put, but you do need to be gentle when opening it - don't go yanking it open.
Even when you're still in the packaging, you can see the texture of the mask separating - it's pretty obvious even in the light. When you first squeeze it out, the oil comes out first, then the rest. In this case, it's way easier to just use a spoon to mix it up and get everything combined again.
The scent of this stuff is pretty off-putting - it smells like stale sunflower oil, which is one of the reasons I'm not exactly itching to use it.
I found it works best when applied to dry skin, as it spreads more evenly. If you apply it to damp skin, it just clings to it and rolls off.
My face didn't sting or tingle after applying it, and it didn't itch either. About 15-20 minutes in, I could feel my skin tightening and the mask layer drying out.
Since the mask contains oils, I'd recommend using it before washing your hair, as it can be a real pain to get out otherwise.
I used the mask twice, with a two-day break in between. A big, painful pimple on my cheek popped up the day after the first use, and a few days later, my chin started breaking out too.
Other than this mask, I didn't change up my skincare routine, so I'm pretty sure it was the culprit. When you rinse it off, you're left with this greasy residue - it's probably the 'hydro-lipidic mantle' the manufacturer talks about.
I've got to say, the mask does leave my skin feeling hydrated and looking smoother, but is it worth dealing with those painful, long-lasting breakouts? I'm not convinced. I wouldn't recommend this product.
I'm a bit disappointed with SeeMe's new mask. While it has some nice features, such as the way it opens and the clear plastic seal, it's just not worth the hassle. The packaging design is pretty, but the font is hard to read, and the texture of the mask itself is kind of weird. The scent is off-putting, and the mask can cause painful breakouts. I'd say it's a miss for me.
