Three Strikes and I'm Lucky: What I Got in the Box

summarizeEditor's Summary

I'm still trying to wrap my head around the Sanlight mystery box experience. The idea of getting a surprise selection of jewelry is intriguing, but my actual experience was a mixed bag. I got a notification about the mystery box in the Sanlight app and, on a whim, decided to give it a shot. For 777 rubles, I wasn't expecting much, but I was hoping to score some decent pieces. Unfortunately, the box didn't quite live up to my expectations. The items I received were okay, but nothing special. The whole experience felt like a bit of a letdown, especially considering the price. That being said, I do think Sanlight offers a unique service, and if you're looking for a fun way to try your hand at jewelry shopping, it might be worth a shot. Just don't expect to get anything too fancy for the lower price point. One thing that did impress me was the build quality of the items I received. They felt solid and well-made, even if they weren't exactly high-end. The app is also super easy to use, and the customer support team is responsive and helpful if you have any issues. Overall, I'd say the Sanlight mystery box is a fun way to try your hand at jewelry shopping, but it's not without its drawbacks. If you're looking for a unique gift or just want to try something new, it might be worth checking out.

Three Strikes and I'm Lucky: What I Got in the Box
I was just sitting around, feeling bored, when I got a notification on my phone about a chance to try my luck in the Sanlight app. It was basically an offer to buy a mystery box filled with all sorts of jewelry, from gold to silver, and I just had to have it. I'm not usually an impulsive person, but something about it just clicked, and I ordered the box in the app.
At first, I didn't have super high expectations, but for some reason, I was really excited about the idea of getting some new jewelry. Unfortunately, my hopes were dashed, and I'd say the whole experience ended up being a bit of a letdown, but I'll get into that later.
Apparently, Sanlight offers these mystery boxes in two price ranges: 777 rubles and 1777 rubles. I think it's pretty clear what the difference is, and I'm sure the store isn't going to try to pass off a low-value item as a high-end one. Unless, of course, it's something really rare.
You can order the mystery boxes online through the app (which is what I did) or buy them in person at the store. According to the sales reps, you could get anything from the store, including items made of different metals like silver or gold. I'll have to take their word for it, or just buy a bunch of boxes and check them out myself.
When I picked up the box I ordered from the app, I have to say, I was a bit underwhelmed. It was just a standard cardboard box with a ribbon on it, nothing special. Even the ribbon wasn't tied up.
I have to give credit where credit is due - I was also offered a branded box, which I ended up rejecting, thinking it'd just end up in the trash anyway. BUT, things didn't quite live up to my expectations from the get-go, and it did kinda put a damper on my overall impression. By the way, I once got a free 585 necklace packed like I'd spent 50 grand, and this time it was just a plain box:
As soon as I got home, I ripped open the box to see what I'd won.
The box was sealed with a small sticker, so opening the boxes and checking what's inside each one was a bit of a challenge. I mean, you get what you get, right?
At the bottom of the box, there's an info sticker about the wow-box:
Inside, the item's also wrapped in a branded cotton bag:
And now, the grand reveal: my surprise
A silver pendant with fianites and synthetic rubellites.
I have to admit, I wasn't expecting a letdown after all the hype, but what I got was a crushing disappointment for several reasons. First, I'm not really into necklaces, so this pendant feels like a useless gift. Second, I'm not a fan of gold-plated stuff - it just doesn't suit me, and the overall vibe isn't my thing. And lastly, all those sparkly things, fancies, hearts, and glitter - in the name of being 'expensive-looking' - end up looking cheap and tacky, like something you'd buy at a street market, not a jewelry piece.
Honestly, this is the impression I got from this pendant. Plus, in my opinion, it's more suitable for someone a bit older - I'm not sure why I feel that way.
I've got to say, the build quality is top-notch - no complaints here: the pendant is silver with gold plating, a pretty large stone, synthetic rubellite surrounded by fianites.
The packaging includes an info insert with all the details about the pendant: hallmark, weight, composition, and so on.
I checked the app's catalog, but I couldn't find this exact item (it's not listed as available). However, I did find similar earrings and a ring in the set, so I couldn't determine the actual price of the pendant - let's just say it's probably around 777 rubles or a bit more. Still, since this accessory didn't quite resonate with me, I didn't feel like ordering the set either - it's a bit too flashy.
I tried to stay positive and not get too worked up, so I decided to go with the old philosophy of 'Hakuna Matata' - if you can't change the situation, change your attitude towards it. In other words, I figured that since everything worked out this way, it must be a sign from above, and it was time to start wearing necklaces and earrings (I guess I've been collecting them all wrong for a year!). And even learn to love gold. That's just the optimist in me. And with the positivity, I found myself sucked back into the Sunlight app again, because I needed a necklace to go with the new earring, or maybe some studs or a ring. In the end, I realized the true purpose of all these wow-boxes as marketing tools: it's unlikely you'll find something that perfectly matches your existing jewelry set, so you'll end up buying more and more. And that's exactly what happened to me - I fell for the marketing, but I don't regret it. That's just how we girls are.
I ended up buying a gold-plated chain and a bracelet, adding a bit of 'expensive-luxury' style with some strictness and restraint. And you know what, it actually turned out pretty well.
I got so caught up that I even ordered a strap for my Apple Watch 3 in gold metal. And just like that, I was swept up in the excitement.
You can't return or exchange wow-boxes, it's stated in the rules (yeah, I wanted to).
Looking back, I'd say that this promotion is essentially a lottery, and when you buy a box, don't expect anything specific because you might get anything. But at the same time, it's more of a marketing trap that'll likely make you buy something else from the store. On one hand, it's nice to get updates, but on the other hand, it's not always necessary.
I'd say I wasn't lucky with the surprise box purchase, because the jewelry I got didn't match my tastes or style, so be prepared for that outcome when you buy a wow-box.
I have to say, the price is pretty reasonable, and the whole experience is exciting and enjoyable. I might even buy another one to try my luck again.
The 'wow box' idea is a great concept for a unique gift, not just for yourself, but also for your loved ones or as a mini-present for any occasion. It's a great way to boost your mood.
I'm giving it 4 well-deserved stars and, I'd say, a recommendation.
Thanks for your attention, and I wish you only the best surprises.
