Specifications
Hello everyone!
So, our little one is now five months old, and we finally got the green light from the pediatrician to start introducing solid foods. We decided to start with something simple, like vegetable purees, and zucchini was our first choice.
We're still breastfeeding, so we didn't want to make our own purees from scratch. The pediatrician advised us to stick with store-bought purees, as they're specially formulated for babies and might be safer than homemade veggies.
We ended up buying a few different brands to compare and see which one our little one likes best. The first one we tried was from the Sady Pridonya brand, and it was a pretty reasonable price of around 30 rubles.
We only took a small amount from this container, but my mom had to finish the rest off within a day or two. We started with a tiny amount, about half a spoonful, to see how our baby would react.
Then we kept an eye on their stool, looked for any signs of an allergy, and checked how they liked the taste. If everything seemed okay, we could gradually increase the portion size.
Here's what the zucchini puree container looks like.
The back of the container has all the ingredients, instructions, and storage info.
I have to admit, I was a bit taken aback by the little pieces at the bottom of the container.
After reading some reviews, I realized those might be crushed zucchini seeds. Not exactly what I wanted to see.
I'm a bit concerned about what else might be settling at the bottom of the puree...
One thing to remember is that the lid should make a clicking sound when you open the container.
So, what's the verdict on the taste, texture, and appearance?
The puree doesn't have a strong smell, and it's quite runny.
It pours right off the spoon!
This one is definitely thinner than other zucchini purees I've tried.
I have to say, the taste was pretty off-putting to me. I'm not a big fan of zucchini, but I only eat it if it's cooked well. This stuff was like a weird, gloopy mess.
Plus, I noticed a hint of apple flavor. That's weird, right?
But my grandma loved it. She's a big fan of zucchini and she thought the puree was great.
And Raissa was a fan too!
She was super excited to try it and she even reached out for more.
We didn't notice any adverse reactions. My little one's stool was a bit more frequent at first, but it went back to normal after a few days. And, of course, there was no allergic reaction. None from this brand or any other one we've tried.
We've tried Sady Pridonya, Heinz, FrutoNyan, and a Belarusian brand called "Malenkie Schastie". And, interestingly, the Belarusian one was the favorite! After FrutoNyan, of course.
Raissa was so excited to try it that she started opening her mouth for more. It's definitely a winner!
So, Malenkie Schastie is our top pick for now.
Overall, the introduction of solid foods has been going smoothly. My little one is opening her mouth and reaching out for food. We're up to 18 spoons of zucchini and broccoli puree a day.
She seems to really enjoy the taste of the veggie purees, so I'm not too worried about finding a suitable diet for her.
So far, she's not rejected any of the purees, including this weird zucchini one with the strange lumps.
I'd give this zucchini a 4 out of 5. It's mainly because of the weird texture.
But, since my little one took to it just fine and didn't have any negative reactions, I guess it's all good.
