Hey everyone! For me, Russia's Bounty candies are a blast from the past. I used to devour them as a kid, and they're still one of my favorite treats to this day.
As a kid, I had a weird habit of eating the sprinkles on top of the candy first, and then the filling. It was kinda like eating waffles - if you eat them layer by layer, it lasts longer and tastes better.
I recently picked up a new flavor to go with my tea, and I noticed the bright packaging of these candies. It reminded me of Homeland Spaces, and I just had to try them.
Russia's Bounty with a 'Pirozhok' flavor cost me 189 rubles for 146 grams, which is about 14 small candies. I wouldn't say it's super cheap, but the packaging and design play a role here.
Russia's Bounty with a 'Pirozhok' flavorThese candies came in a red cardboard box with traditional patterns. The top was wrapped in cellophane.Russia's Bounty with a 'Pirozhok' flavorApparently, the candies shifted during shipping, and some of the sprinkles fell off and stuck to the bottom of the box. I had to carefully open it and shake out the loose sprinkles.Russia's Bounty with a 'Pirozhok' flavorYou can find information about the candies, their nutritional value, calorie count, and the manufacturer's details on the box.Russia's Bounty with a 'Pirozhok' flavorThe packaging also lists the ingredients and expiration date of the candies. One thing worth mentioning is that the candies contain milk fat substitutes, so the chocolate flavor might be a bit off. I'm looking forward to trying the filling.
Russian Candies - Generous Soul with a taste of Potato Cake CreamThe presentation of these candies is nice, and under the lid, there's a special gusseted paper cover with the manufacturer's emblem, sealing the candies. Russian Candies - Generous Soul with a taste of Potato Cake CreamEach candy is lying separately on a transparent plastic sheet. The candies look like truffles to me, small and cone-shaped, made in the shape of a drop. They smell great.Russian Candies - Generous Soul with a taste of Potato Cake CreamThere's also a layer of sprinkles at the bottom of the box, which spilled out of the candies. So, I haven't even eaten the candies yet, and I've already got a decent amount of mess from them. Russian Candies - Generous Soul with a taste of Potato Cake CreamThe candies are small, shaped like a drop, and slightly tilted to one side. Each candy is covered in a fine crumb, very similar to bran, but it's actually a waffle crumb, which, to be honest, was a bit tasteless.
The aroma of the candies is pleasant, chocolatey, sweet, with a slight tanginess.
Russian Candies - Generous Soul with a taste of Potato Cake CreamEven with the mess in the box, most of the sprinkles remained on the candies. They're evenly covered, and the filling and chocolate layer don't show through.
The top of the candies is dense, doesn't collapse when pressed, and doesn't melt in your hands.
Russia Candies - Generous Soul with a Pirozhok Kartoshka FlavorI had a hard time cutting into these candies. But when you do, they turn out to be pretty soft. The waffle crunch on the outside is a bit satisfying on your teeth.
Under the crunch is a thin layer of chocolate glaze that's sweet but neutral-tasting.
The best part of the candy is the filling, which is similar to a chocolate bar. It's moderately sweet, soft, has a uniform texture, and a light tanginess that gives the candies an interesting, slightly piquant flavor.
The filling is also similar to the filling you'd find in waffle candies, between the wafers.
The ingredients list pecans and hazelnuts, but I don't really taste them.
Russia Candies - Generous Soul with a Pirozhok Kartoshka FlavorI was expecting these candies to be a bit bigger, like the Russia's Native Lands candies. But they're small, just one bite for a man and a couple for a woman.
The Pirozhok Kartoshka flavor isn't really coming through, it's more like a chocolate bar covered in waffle crunch that's similar to oatmeal.
These candies pair nicely with unsweetened coffee and tea. They have an interesting flavor, but we ended up eating them for a week and kept forgetting about them. They're tasty, but the box was right in front of us and we just didn't feel like eating them.
Russia Candies - Generous Soul with a Pirozhok Kartoshka FlavorRussia Candies - Generous Soul with a Pirozhok Kartoshka Flavor are nice. They're tasty, moderately sweet, with a tanginess, the filling is soft, and the topping crunches a bit. But I wouldn't take these candies as a gift, although the packaging looks nice, it's nicely decorated, but the filling is a bit skimpy and it's for those who like it.
These candies look and smell a bit like truffles, and inside, the soft filling is like a regular chocolate bar, like Rott Front.
I've got to say, these candies are perfect for those who prefer not-so-sweet chocolate treats. If you're a fan of wafer candies or bars, you'll likely enjoy these.
However, if you're a traditional chocolate lover, you might be a bit disappointed. And let's be real, the candies themselves are pretty small, so you won't be able to gorge on them. Plus, you probably won't even feel like overindulging.
I also have to mention that the sprinkles on top of the candies tend to fall off easily when you open the wrapper, so be careful not to make a mess!
Overall, these candies are worth trying out of curiosity, especially if you're not a huge fan of super sweet or traditional chocolate candies.
Enjoy your snack, and thanks for reading my review!
