Hello everyone who's made it to my review!
Thriller fans, this one's for you!
The twisty plot and amazing cast had me hooked from start to finish.
Get ready for a wild ride with the movie "The Grifter" starring Rosamund Pike.
What's the movie about?
Marla's got a winning formula: she uses people, bribery, and a little bit of law bending to get control of vulnerable seniors, sticks them in nursing homes, and sells off their assets. Her new target, elderly Jennifer Peterson, seems like an easy score – no family, plenty of cash, a nice house, and early signs of dementia. Marla sets up the same old scheme, but Jennifer's not as simple as she seems.
Released in 2020Original title: I Care a Lot. Runtime: around 2 hours
thrillersAt the center of it all is the charming Marla (played by Rosamund Pike).
Marla's built a successful business on scamming elderly people.
Hanging out with the right people – realtors, doctors, social workers – Marla gets guardianship over vulnerable seniors, sticks them in a nursing home, and then sells off their assets for her own gain.
The Con Artist
Crime Thrillers
The Con Artist 2020 ReviewsMarla's a ruthless and focused woman who'll stop at nothing to get what she wants.
She moves fast and aggressively, always on the lookout for the next big score.
Marla's got a real knack for dividing people into predators and prey, and she sees herself as the top predator.
Best Thrillers
The Con Artist Movie ReviewsHer latest mark is Jennifer Peterson (played by Diane Wiest), and Marla sees her as a prime target.
I've got a big house, a fat bank account, and no relatives to speak of.
And to make matters worse, Jennifer's starting to show signs of dementia – which is just a blessing in disguise for Marla.
Con artist reviews the movie Marla's following a well-worn script – she puts Jennifer in a nursing home, becomes her guardian, and takes her house and savings for herself.
But who'd have thought that the old gal would turn out to be more than a pushover...
Rosamund Pike One thing that really stood out to me was the storyline – it's unique, fast-paced, and totally gripping.
I was on the edge of my seat the whole time, curious to see where it would go.
The theme of scams is still super relevant today, especially with all the tech we have at our fingertips.
Watching the way these scammers target vulnerable people, especially seniors, is just heartbreaking.
Rosamund Pike movies The actors in this movie deliver their performances 100%. They're all in their right places and doing a great job.
I've got to say, I love how the cast comes together to bring this story to life.
One thing that didn't sit right with me was the lesbian subplot – it feels like it's being forced down our throats right now.
I try not to let it bother me, but to me, it feels like unnecessary drama.
One thing that struck me about Marla's partner, played by Mexican actress Eiza González, is how feminine and alluring she is – she's definitely the kind of woman who turns heads.
Scammer 2020
Scammer reviewsIt's no surprise that the Americans couldn't resist throwing in a reference to Russians in the plot.
And, of course, they had to portray the Russian as some kind of clown.
The dynamic between the cunning scammer and the Russian mobster is pretty entertaining, but it's hard not to feel a little sorry for neither of them.
Watching this, you can't help but wonder how far people will go to get ahead.
I've got to say, the cinematography in this film is top-notch.
The visuals are crisp and vibrant, making it a real treat to watch.
The soundtrack is equally impressive, with a dynamic score that complements the film's twisty plot perfectly.
But don't worry, it's not all doom and gloom!
The film's ending is a real twist, and the resolution is super unpredictable!
I think a lot of people will love the cynical ending, but I still felt like I was missing out on some sense of justice.
The main character's methods are just so ruthless and bloodthirsty, and her punishment feels way too easy.
The GrifterThe Grifter 2020I'm telling you, The Grifter is an absolute must-watch and one of the best in its genre!
It hooks you from the very first minute and doesn't let go until the final credits roll.
A bold, dynamic, crime-filled thriller with a dash of sarcasm and a whole lot of energy.
I have to say, this is one of those rare cases where you're actually rooting for the bad guy to get caught or get punished in some way.
The movie makes you think about the value of our lives, the injustice and bureaucracy of the social system, corruption, and the helplessness of older people.
And let's be real, we're not getting any younger...
The film is even a bit of a lesson, God bless our seniors!
You don't want to end up in the clutches of someone like Marla...
It's no surprise the movie won multiple awards and nominations.
Rosamund Pike definitely deserved her Golden Globe for her outstanding and memorable performance.
I highly recommend watching this movie!!!
Thanks for reading my review!!!
Enjoy your viewing and have a great weekend!

Another guy who's like the male version of 'Substance' - Sebastian Stan's dark comedy about accepting yourself and your flaws.
I've seen some wild stuff, but 'The Disappearance' with Ben Affleck and Rosamund Pike takes the cake - it's like they're trying to frame you for her disappearance.
I've always wondered what it's like to be so rich you've lost all sense of reality - these billionaires are taking it to a whole new level with their outrageous demands.
I'm a huge fan of Whitney Wolfe, the co-founder of Tinder, but her story is also a cautionary tale about the darker side of online dating - especially for women.
I recently saw a documentary about a guy who's trying to erase his existence - it's called 'The Unloved Child Dies Every Day' and it's a heavy, Danish thriller about therapy as survival.
I'm blown away by how mind-blowing our memory's capabilities are! The dynamic action in 'Trans' had me on the edge of my seat, with James McAvoy and Vincent Cassel delivering top-notch performances.
