I'm sharing my review with you because, let's face it, we've all been there - we've exhausted our usual go-to options like macaroni, potatoes, and even lentils. That's where this beautiful chickpea dish from Ricead comes in - chickpeas with veggies.
I'll be honest, chickpeas aren't a staple in our household, but when we're looking for something new and exciting, this is a great option.
I decided to review the chickpea soup from Ricead because I had something else planned for a side dish. The packaging caught my eye, and I loved the little window to check the quality of the chickpeas inside. The price was also reasonable - I picked it up at Magnit for 80 rubles. Yes, it's pricier than our usual pasta and lentils, but that's because the pack size is smaller - 200g, not 800g or a kilogram.
Here's the ingredient list:
Red split chickpeas, green split chickpeas, dried veggies and herbs in varying proportions (tomatoes, paprika, onions, garlic, parsley, basil).
To be honest, the ingredient list is a bit one-dimensional, with chickpeas taking center stage. The other veggies and herbs are present in smaller quantities.
I decided to cook the soup in a pot, as suggested on the packaging.
I added a meat broth with bones and a crunchy mix of carrots, onions, and potatoes as a base. Although the packaging suggests using vegetables, I found it wasn't enough, so I sautéed them separately and added them to the pot later. I also added chickpeas, which take a bit longer to cook, about 25-30 minutes. I added them a bit earlier to avoid overcooking. Of course, I seasoned it with salt, pepper, and other spices to taste.
In the end, the soup turned out to be quite original and my husband and I really enjoyed it. However, our kids weren't too keen on it, as they found the chickpeas a bit too firm. They left them behind, spat them out, or swallowed the bigger pieces. I think this might be due to the type of chickpeas used (red or green) and how they're cooked. By the time they were done, the chickpeas had lost their color and turned brown.
I think chickpeas with vegetables can be a great addition to our diet, but we won't be making it too often.
I'd give it four stars for the unique flavor and recommend it to others.
