A Budget Ride That's Got Its Ups and Downs

summarizeEditor's Summary

I've had my Renault for over four years now, and it's been a solid choice for a budget-friendly ride. The 5-speed manual transmission has been a real winner for me - it's smooth to use and gets the job done. The sleek black design has held up well over time, and I've been impressed with how well the car handles. The steering wheel is smooth, and the brakes are super responsive. Of course, there are some downsides, like the transmission can be a bit finicky at times. Still, I've been happy with the car's performance for my needs, and I'd recommend it to anyone looking for a reliable ride on a budget. It's not the most powerful car out there, but it's got enough oomph for my daily commute. I picked up this Renault in September 2017, and it's been a decent choice for a budget-friendly ride so far.
It's a sleek black car with a 5-speed manual transmission that's been serving me well.
The car handles really well, with a smooth steering wheel and responsive brakes that make it a joy to drive. The pedals feel great too, and the gearbox is pretty smooth, making shifting gears a breeze.
I mostly drive around the city with my kid, so I don't need to go too fast. I've been happy with the car's performance for my needs, but there are a few things that could be improved.
Don't get me wrong - I've done my research on the car's specs. What I want to share is my personal experience with the vehicle, the good and the bad.
The dashboard has a speedometer, temperature gauge, average fuel consumption display, and average speed display - all the info I need at a glance. It's really handy to have everything right in front of me.
When there's a problem, the dashboard will light up with a warning symbol, which is a nice touch.
The fuel gauge is easy to read, and I appreciate the cruise control feature, even if it's not essential for city driving.
The seats are comfortable and adjustable, but they do get dirty quickly. The seatbelts are fine, but I noticed that the backseat doesn't have a third belt for the rear-facing child seat, which can be a bit of a pain.
The doors have a nice locking mechanism, and the front wipers do a great job of clearing the windshield. The rear wiper, on the other hand, tends to spray water everywhere when it's in use - and it leaves streaks on the rear window.
The car's black color looks great, but it shows dirt and stains really easily. After a rain shower, the roof is speckled with water droplets, and in the winter, the mud and slush are visible even on the roof. It's a bit of a hassle to clean, but I guess that's what I get for choosing a dark color.
After three months of use, I started experiencing problems with the transmission. The rear gear would sometimes get stuck, making it hard to shift into gear. The dealership told me everything was fine, but they refused to fix it, which was frustrating. Apparently, this is a common issue with these Renaults, so I'm not the only one who's experienced this problem.
The mirrors are a bit of a letdown - when you close them, you can still see the wires and springs inside, which isn't the most aesthetically pleasing thing.
The window regulators are super fast, and the air conditioning is a lifesaver on hot days. You can adjust the airflow and temperature to your liking, which is a nice feature.I opted for the parking sensors, and I'm glad I did - it's been a huge help on dark winter evenings when visibility is poor.
All in all, this is a decent budget car that's perfect for city driving, but there are a few downsides to consider:
The rear gear gets stuck sometimes, which can be annoyingThe mirrors show the wires and springs when closed, which isn't greatThe backseat doesn't have a third seatbelt, which can be a painThe rear wiper sprays water everywhere, which can be a hassleAnd, yeah, the stroller won't fit in the trunk - I have to put it in the backseat instead!
