I'm not a huge fan of soups, but there are some that really hit the spot, like that spinach one or the zucchini one from Tykva. I've tried a few soups in my time, and I have to say, some of them are just amazing. This cucumber soup was definitely one of them.
I spotted this new soup at Vkusvill and was totally skeptical - a cucumber soup? It's basically just a liquid, I thought. But the ingredients looked interesting: pear, basil, and shrimp! So, I decided to give it a try on sale, even though I wasn't sure what to expect.
Price: 161 rubles (with 40% discount) - I have to say, I was pleasantly surprised by the price. It was a great deal, if you ask me.
Weight: 270 grams - I like soups that are substantial, and this one definitely fit the bill.
Where: Nizhny Novgorod - I'm not sure if I'd be able to find this soup anywhere else, but I'd love to try it again sometime.
Ingredients:
Cucumber, green pepper, pear, wheat bread (wheat flour, water, sugar, sunflower oil, salt, yeast), sunflower oil, shrimp (Litopenaeus vannamei, produced from frozen raw material, aquaculture products), dried herbs (basil, oregano, marjoram, rosemary, mint, thyme, sage), fresh basil, salt, apple cider vinegar 5%, white pepper - The variety of ingredients used in this soup really stood out to me. It's clear that the makers put a lot of thought into creating a unique flavor profile.
Appearance:
The soup came in a transparent plastic bowl with a plastic wrap on top. I personally prefer containers with lids, but this was fine - it was easy to see what was inside, and it was a nice, clean design.
Through the walls, I could see the contents - a pale green, uniform, but not transparent liquid. And indeed, the soup was thicker than water, but not a puree - it was a great texture.
I immediately started searching for the promised shrimp - and found three whole ones! I wasn't expecting more, but I was happy to see that they were clean and firm.
The aroma was fresh and slightly salty - it was a great combination, and it really added to the overall flavor of the soup.
Taste:
It was incredibly fresh and light!
It was basically like cucumbers blended up - but not fresh, more like slightly salty and sour! Maybe it was the expiration date, but everything was fine with me - I didn't notice any off-flavors or textures.
I didn't notice the pear separately, but its texture added a pleasant crunch to the soup. It was a great addition, and it really helped to balance out the flavors.
Basil wasn't overpowering, but I think it was the combination of all ingredients that created a unified, pleasant taste! It was a really nice surprise, and I was happy to see that the makers had put so much thought into creating a unique flavor profile.
Shrimp were small, clean, and firm, but I would've liked more of them. I know it's a minor complaint, but I was really looking forward to a bigger serving of shrimp.
The soup wasn't too salty, even for someone like me who doesn't add salt to anything. It was a great balance of flavors, and I was really impressed by the makers' attention to detail.
Verdict:
This is a great summer soup - light, beautiful, and delicious! I'd definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a refreshing and unique flavor experience.
