When I'm planning a trip to Sochi, I often find myself torn between staying near the sea or in the mountains. This time, I chose the mountains and we stayed at Red Valley 540 Apartments. Here's my take on the experience.
Why Red Valley 540 Apartments?
I'd been to the Sochi mountains before, staying at Azimut Hotel on Rose Valley. It was great – the view from my room was directly onto the Mzymta River, and the hotel itself was top-notch.
But at the time, I had my eye on the adjacent resort, Gorki Gorod, which has since changed hands and is now known as Red Valley. I really wanted to stay there, and I'd even found a hotel I liked, but there was no instant booking option available, and waiting for confirmation was a hassle since we'd booked our tour just two days in advance.
So, I frantically started looking for other options with quick confirmation, and that's when I stumbled upon Red Valley 540 Apartments. And why didn't I think of them first? Well, their architecture has always caught my eye.

About the Location
Apartment 540 is located on the lower level of the Red Valley ski resort, the address in the voucher and on the map is:
Sochi, village Estosadok, Mountain Carousel Street, 4
Essentially, Red Valley Apartments are a bunch of 7-8 story buildings.
Red Valley Resort Map - Check out the location of the apartmentsI think the complex looks pretty nice. You've definitely seen it if you've ever been to Red Valley ski resort even just once.
It's impossible to miss - half of the lower level of Red Valley is made up of Apartment 540!
I even saw it when I was staying at Rosa Khutor or Gazprom Alpika - you can't help but see it as you drive by!
The Infrastructure is Top-Notch
The apartments are designed for a comfortable stay.
There are kids' play areas,

One thing that caught my eye was the abundance of shops, restaurants, and parking spots.
It's clear that the complex has invested in providing a great quality of life for its residents.
The infrastructure is top-notch, making it easy to relax and build a mini-home.
Check-in
When we arrived, we headed straight to the 24-hour reception desk.
The check-in process was lightning-fast, and we were shown to our room with a quick rundown of all the important details. We even got a welcome pack with a map of the complex and some local recommendations.
I love little touches like that – it really helps you get settled and make the most of your time.
The check-in and check-out times were pretty standard:
check-in by 15:00, check-out by 12:00
Fortunately, our flight times worked out perfectly, so we didn't have to worry about an early check-in or late check-out.
Our Room
We opted for the Comfort Apartments with Mountain View and 1 Bedroom (there are options with more bedrooms too).
We were placed on the top floor, the 8th level.I'm a fan of high floors, but the lift here seemed to be moving at a snail's pace. There were no mirrors in the lift, so you won't find any photos from there.
Our mountain view from the comfort apartmentTo be honest, I was surprised by how spacious the apartments were,as they were listed as 45m2 on the website, but it felt bigger in reality.
Our apartment had:A bedroomA kitchen with a living areaA bathroom with a showerA bathroom without a shower or bathtub, where there was a washing machineTwo balconies - and they were on opposite sides! I think that's a plus and a great way to mix up the views)A spacious corridor
A bit more about each zone.
The bedroom
It's got everything you need:
a comfy bed with a decent mattress and pillows(my husband only sleeps on orthopedic mattresses, and he was happy with this one)
a spacious closetnightstandsa TVa safean air conditioner
Everything's great✔️My only gripe is that the beds are separate😕,
fair enough: I noticed this on the website photos before we left, and it's the same in all apartments of this type,
I guess it's for cases when guests don't need a shared bed, and if they do, they just move it.
My husband's usually a bit picky about this in hotels, but it wasn't a big deal here.
The kitchen we barely used, to be honest.
We had a plan to cook breakfast before we left, but we never got around to it 😅 Although almost everything's there:
a stovetop (no oven),tableware for serving and cooking,a microwave,a fridgeand even a dishwasher, so we wouldn't have to scrub the dishes afterwards)
We also had the luxury of a capsule coffee machine in our unit.
As a welcome gift, we received:2 tea bags, coffee sticks, sugar, and 2 coffee capsules for the machine, as well as 2 0.5L bottles and a dishwasher tablet.
I found it strange that these were only provided at check-in, unlike the Azimut on Rosa Khutor, where they were replenished throughout our stay. No big deal for me, though.
There's also a dining table, and a sofa, where you can, for example, place a child if you're traveling with three people.
Bathrooms
It's great that there are two of them, although I initially thought it was unnecessary for our group.
As it turned out, one of the features of our apartments actually came in handy during our stay:
for example, when we wanted to get ready and head out quickly in the morning, we could split our morning routines between the two bathrooms, with one of us taking a shower while the other got ready.
The shower, by the way, has a good water pressure- something I always pay attention to.
There was one time when the hot water wasn't quite as hot as I'd have liked, especially towards the end of the day. I'm guessing they were running low.
The bathroom was pretty basic, no shower, just a washing machine and a clothesline.
Balconies were spacious, and one of them had a little table and chairs.
On sunny days, even in November, we'd sit out there and soak up the sun with a cup of tea ☺️
❗️No smoking allowed on the balconies
Since we had two balconies, we had two different options)
Corridor was spacious, with plenty of hooks for hanging up our coats.
Corridor (from the bedroom)And to top it all off, the apartments came equipped with
a set of towels per person, one bathrobe per person, and a toiletry and toothbrush set.
I was pretty standard, but the presence of a bathrobe was a nice touch
By the way, you can get unlimited refills on gels, shampoos, and paper towels just by requesting them. That's different from the tea and coffee set that I mentioned earlier, which is only provided when you check in.
My impression of staying at Apartments 540 Red Valley
I think everything is super and thoughtfully set up in terms of amenities, all the necessary equipment is there to make you feel comfortable, just like at home.I've noticed lately that you often choose a trendy hotel based on the photos, only to realize when you're there that it's not as functional as you thought: there aren't enough shelves in the bathroom, or storage space, or whatever. But that wasn't the case with Apartments 540. I didn't have any of those thoughts or feelings during my stay.
We also had a good ironing board and an iron, which we didn't end up using this time, but sometimes in hotels I've had to use the iron in a shared area, and it's nice to have your own.
However, the condition of the room wasn't ideal, it was already worn out:there were cracks, stains that couldn't be removed, so if you're a perfectionist or like new renovations, this might be a problem, but we're not picky and it was fine for us.
I really enjoyed the staff's attitude during my stay at Red Pines 540 Apartments.Apparently, the complex's age is starting to show, so we had a lock that didn't work once and we couldn't get into the room, had to call maintenance, and
then the coffee machine turned out to be broken and needed to be replaced
The broken coffee machine was replaced with this oneAnd in situations like these, they helped us out promptly, staff came quickly and sorted everything out efficiently. I appreciate that kind of reaction because problems can pop up anywhere, and you can't predict everything – what matters is how the company handles these situations.
One thing that did bother me was that
the cleaning only happens every 3 days, and they didn't even take out the trash,at least there was a trash can in the room
But I'm guessing if we had asked, they would've taken care of it too)
It's pretty common practice among hotels, though.
Pros, cons, verdictOverall, my husband and I were happy with our stay at Red Pines 540 Apartments. I'd definitely recommend them – if you're not set on luxury, that is, because it's generally comfortable and the location is stunning.
Some of the benefits
One of the things I loved about this place is how central it is to shops, restaurants, and cafes.
It's literally right next to the ski lifts, so you can hit the slopes in no time.
There are also bus stops nearby if you want to explore other parts of the resort.
The resort itself and the apartments look super nice, and the views from everywhere are stunning.
The rooms are fully equipped with everything you need, and I was really impressed with how organized the staff is.
The only downsides were that the rooms could use a bit of a refresh, and the cleaning schedule was a bit too infrequent for my taste.
But overall, I'd totally come back here - the vibe is just so chill and laid-back.
Some other places I checked out while I was in Red Valley, which are definitely worth a visit:
KARMA cafe - it's right next to the apartments, and they serve up amazing breakfasts and coffee.Tehnikum restaurant - we had dinner there, and it's more of a sit-down restaurant vibe.
