A Red Flag Experience at This Clinic: What Went Wrong

summarizeEditor's Summary

My red flag experience at this clinic started when my French Bulldog developed a perineal hernia in mid-December 2024. The medical team barely investigated the unknown liquid found inside the hernia during surgery, and the lack of transparency and follow-up care left me questioning their expertise. I was initially impressed by the clinic's modern equipment and the surgeon's ability to perform the castration and hernia removal surgery, but the inconsistencies in their diagnosis and care raised major concerns. I'd advise pet owners to exercise caution when considering this clinic for their furry friends.

I'm still trying to process the events that unfolded at this clinic, but one thing's for sure - it was a red flag experience from start to finish. My 8-year-old French Bulldog started showing signs of trouble in mid-December 2024. He developed a swelling near his anus, and we took him to a vet. The diagnosis was a perineal hernia, and the surgeon recommended castration and surgical removal if it didn't shrink on its own. We ran some tests - blood work and an ultrasound of his heart - but that was it. By the end of December 2024, we had the castration done, and by early January 2025, the hernia had grown even bigger. The surgeon performed the hernia removal in mid-January, and I was shocked when they found a bunch of unknown liquid inside the hernia. The medical team barely even looked into what that liquid was or where it came from. They did notice some skin irritation on the inside of his skin, but otherwise, everything seemed fine. They installed a drain and told us to remove it in 7 days and then take out the stitches 7 days after that. When we removed the drain, the surgeon said everything was okay. But by February 2025, the swelling had increased way more than expected. During the stitch removal, we got a CT scan, and the results showed multiple areas of inflammation. We took samples for a biopsy, and the vet recommended an urgent consultation with an oncologist. However, since the biopsy results weren't ready yet, we were basically told to take a hike by the oncologist at this clinic. We ended up taking him to another vet clinic for a consultation. The CT scan showed inflammation in multiple organs, and a preliminary oncology diagnosis was made. We were prescribed some anti-nausea and pain meds. Without the biopsy results, it's impossible to figure out what kind of cancer he might have or if chemo is even an option. By the end of February 2025, my dog's condition had taken a turn for the worse. He stopped eating and drinking, had accidents, and was having major bowel issues. The biopsy results still weren't ready, and it was clear that euthanasia was the only option left. Looking back, I wish they'd been way more thorough in their initial diagnosis and treatment plan. It's crazy to think about what could've been done differently to give my dog more time. I'm still trying to wrap my head around everything that went down. I'm left wondering what could've been done to prevent this whole ordeal from escalating. The clinic's lack of follow-up and communication was appalling. It's clear that they weren't invested in finding out what was really going on with my dog's health. The end.
