Alenka Expands Their Menu, But Ponch Falls Short on Taste and Ingredients

summarizeEditor's Summary

I was stoked to try Alenka's new Ponch treat, but sadly, it didn't quite hit the mark. The crunchy two-colored crust is a nice touch, but the delicate filling just doesn't pack the flavor I was hoping for. With less sugar, I thought it'd be a better option, but the taste is still too sweet for my liking. I'm a bit let down, especially considering the price of 120 rubles. The filling's delicate, which is a nice thing, but the ingredients seem a bit lacking, and that's a concern for me. For the price, I was expecting a better product, but it's just not worth it for me.

Alenka Expands Their Menu, But Ponch Falls Short on Taste and Ingredients
Hello, lovely readers!
I've been keeping up with the latest news from Alenka, and it seems they're not just stopping at chocolates... they're moving forward and releasing new products.
Here's the lowdown:
Product name - Ponch
First off, let's talk about what Ponch is.
Personally, I've never seen a treat like this before - it's a new one for me!
Ponch is a delicate filling in a crunchy two-colored crust.
Its round shape and small size make it easy to pop into your mouth and enjoy the vibrant flavor.
With less sugar and no cloying sweetness, you can have more!
Manufactured by TKF 'Yasnyaya Polyana' or the Alenka brand
This is a new product.
They've just started releasing it recently.
Where to buy
You can find it in the Fiks-Price network of stores.
I haven't seen it in other product stores or on marketplaces.
Price: 120 rubles
This is the price for Kamchatka, where everything costs more due to the long air delivery.
In central Russia, this treat should be cheaper!
Taste
Alenka has two flavors of Ponch.
I wrote a review on Alenka's Ponch with a cherry filling earlier.
Today, I'm trying the new mango-maqui filling.
Product description from the manufacturer
Ponch 'Alenka', Red October - a delicate filling in a crunchy two-colored crust.
A great snack that's easy to eat on the go! Contains reduced sugar levels.
Packaging
The packaging volume is 150g.
The packaging is bright, cheerful yellow, with the familiar Alinka logo plastered right in the middle.
There's a mouthwatering image of the ponch with a generous helping of filling at the bottom.
The reverse side shows how to prepare the ponchies in a fun, cartoonish way.
The expiration dates are stamped at the bottom.
This product can be stored for five months.
On the side, you'll find the manufacturer's contact information and storage instructions.
And on this side, you can read the detailed ingredient list.
I try to lead a healthy lifestyle, so I pay close attention to the ingredients.
Ingredients
The ingredient list is a real mouthful - it's a long, complicated, and overwhelming mix of stuff.
On the plus side, I'm glad to see that it doesn't contain palm oil, rapeseed oil, or any trans fats.
But it's not all sunshine and rainbows.
There are some chemical flavor enhancers that can be bad for your liver, and a whole bunch of artificial colors and a ton of cornstarch.
I wouldn't buy this product for kids, that's for sure.
For adults, it's okay in moderation, I guess.
Let's take a look at the dessert's appearance
It looks like a bunch of tiny, bright yellow ponchik minis.
They look pretty cool, actually - like mini-ponchiks with a filling.
By the way, let's take a look at the filling
The filling has a trail of a chemical mango-mangosteen flavorizer.
Aroma
The filling has a strong, chemical aroma that's not very appealing.
Taste
I really like that the dough is thin. It's somehow similar to lavash... but sweeter.
The dough isn't crispy, it's soft.
For some, this might be a plus, while for others, it's a minus.
Personally, I wouldn't want the ponce to be crispy... I like the softness of the dough.
The filling is sweet, even a bit too sweet for my taste.
I can clearly taste the fruit jam, but I couldn't distinguish the mango or mangosteen flavors... for me, it's just a regular jam with an undefined taste.
There's no natural taste to it...
Apparently, the flavorizer is cheap, which is why it doesn't give a distinct taste.
Overall, it's okay, it'll do. You can drink tea with these ponce.
Calorie count is quite high...
340 calories per 100 grams of ponce... not low!
Plus, it has a lot of carbs.
So, this dessert is definitely not for those on a diet.
Summary
Soft dough.Scarce dough.Plenty of filling.Interesting appearance.Unique snack format.Affordable price.Convenient to take with you for a snack.Cons
Chemical taste.Unappealing composition. Can't taste the mango or mangosteen.Too sweet.I have to be honest, I liked the ponce with a strawberry flavor more.
These are just okay... I won't be buying them again.
If I had to rate them, I'd give them three stars!
I still recommend trying them out, just for the sake of curiosity.
