Editor's Summary
We splurged on the Play Today 177061413 snowsuit for our kid, and while it's got some great features, it's not without its flaws. The design is eye-catching, but the price is steep. We've only worn it a handful of times, but so far, it's delivered on the build quality and warmth. The elastic cuffs are a bit of a letdown, and the loose threads are annoying. It's a mixed bag, but worth every penny if you're looking for a high-end winter combo that'll keep your kid warm and toasty. The snowsuit is surprisingly lightweight and doesn't restrict movement, which is a major plus. However, the bulky design can make it hard to move around in, and the lack of seam-sealed zippers is a bit of a concern for water resistance. Overall, it's a solid choice for parents who want the best for their kids, but be prepared to pay a premium.
Specifications
I'm no expert on kids' clothing, but my wife and I have heard of a few popular brands. When we were choosing a snowsuit for our kid, we looked beyond just the price tag. We'd previously bought a Play Today snowsuit, so we decided to stick with the same brand again - this time it's the Play Today 177061413. We've only worn it a handful of times so far, but we've already formed an opinion.
The price is steep, and some places are asking for around 10,000 rubles for this snowsuit, while similar ones from other brands are going for around 5,000 rubles. But we didn't rule it out for good. Why not? The design really caught our eye, we had a pretty good idea of what to expect from the snowsuit, and there was a good sale going on.
The design really caught our eye. We had a pretty good idea of what to expect from the snowsuit. There was a good sale going on.
The photos show just how vibrant and eye-catching the color scheme is. Some people might be put off by that, but we actually really like it. One thing that did catch us off guard was that the area around the bottom of the snowsuit is just black - we were hoping it would match the rest of the design. The problem is that dirt shows up way more easily on black than on a colorful background.
There are way too many labels, tags, and stickers to keep track of. I'm still trying to figure out why they included a label that asks you to write down your name and phone number. Like, who actually does that?
The one thing that kind of made me happy was the label that shows the thermal protection ratings. Our snowsuit is labeled as 'nord', which is the second-highest rating out of all the thermal protection levels.
They even included a sample of the synthetic insulation to avoid any confusion about the filling. It's pretty dense and has a bit of give to it.
We also got some extra buttons in the package, but to be honest, we've never even used them. The kid grows out of the snowsuit way too fast, so we don't get a chance to put them to the test.
Let's talk about the Play Today 177061413 winter jacket. The first thing that caught my eye was the fleece lining inside, which gives me a hint that this jacket is going to be super warm. The material is soft and feels really nice against my skin.
On the outside, the jacket is covered with a high-quality membrane that can handle both wind and wet snow. The zipper and buttons are big and easy to use, and so far, I haven't encountered any jamming issues.
There's also a membrane overlay on top of the zipper to prevent any cold air from getting in.
I was a bit surprised that they decided to make the inside of the pant leg a different color from the outside, but I guess it's not a big deal. What's more important is that the pant leg has a rubber insert that helps it fit snugly around my boots, even in deep snow.
The manufacturer promised us that the reflective strips would be silicone, but what we got were fabric ones with rubber inside. From my experience, these strips don't last as long as the silicone ones. But, if we need to replace them, it's no big deal.
I've got to say, the abundance of reflective inserts on this onesie is really great. We've got an active kid, and it's hard to spot them in the dim light of winter. But, with a flashlight, the onesie's reflective bits make it easy to find them.
No little Houdini can hide from their parents' gaze in a onesie like this.
One thing that really didn't impress me was the elastic cuffs on the sleeves with a hole for the thumb. I just don't get the point of it. Maybe it's supposed to be warmer? But, even if it is, it's not like it's going to make a difference until the first snow. And, since the cuffs are sewn on and can't be removed, we're left with a pretty bad situation. Wet cuffs on dry sleeves are no problem to swap out, but dry sleeves on wet cuffs just don't make sense.
By the way, you can also grab the matching gloves from the same series. They're around 1.5 grand.
I'd highly recommend these. With them, your hands and wrists stay dry, and your arms are protected up to your elbow.
And while I'm on the subject of drawbacks, I've got to mention the inside stitching. It's a mess. Threads are always poking out somewhere.
In some places, it's not even properly sewn. Or, you know, it's just come undone at the seam.
There are enough of these areas to go around. We took a closer look at our old combo and, guess what? It's the same story with the Play Tudey. It's like a signature thing, if you will. What's interesting is that, despite the poor stitching, neither of our combos has completely fallen apart. And the loose threads haven't caused any major issues. My wife didn't even bother to re-sew the old one, and she's not planning to with the new one either.
I've got mixed feelings about the hood. It's a plus that it's there at all.
Another plus is that the hood attaches to the snowsuit with clips, not a zipper. If my kid gets caught on something, they won't get strangled by the hood - they'll just fall free under their own weight.
The third plus is that the two ends of the hood snap together with sticky bits. It's quick, and my kid loves it.
The fourth plus is the size of the hood. It's huge - it covers not just my kid's head, but also goes way down over their forehead, creating a little awning.
But that's also a downside, because it's not always easy for my little one - the hood keeps shifting forward and covers part of the view.
Fifth plus is its absolute windproofness and water-resistance. We went out in the cold winter rain and my little one stayed completely dry, including their head.
The Play Today 177061413 winter combo set also comes with two straps.
The straps are pretty wide and long, but I quickly ruled them out for one simple reason - they don't adjust at all. So, it's either the straps fit your kid's height and length or they don't. No middle ground.
I have to say, the straps are pretty great. No need to take off the whole snowsuit when you're heading into a store, only to have your kid sweat to death. Just slip the top part back and the snowsuit hangs nicely on the straps. And no more lugging it around in your hands - that's the beauty of it!
The straps don't cause any discomfort for the kid, they don't chafe or pinch.
I was worried the sleeves would drag on the ground, but nope, they only do if the kid is sitting on the floor. Otherwise, it's all about the convenience.
One thing that really impressed me about the Play Today 177061413 winter jacket is just how warm it is. We've had some crazy weather this winter - from downpours to sub-zero temperatures - and this jacket has handled it all with ease. Even on the really cold days, we didn't always need to wear a thermal layer under it, and my kid stayed nice and toasty. It's not waterproof, but it's definitely water-resistant - we've had some pretty heavy rain, and the inside of the jacket has stayed dry and warm.
Another plus is that the jacket doesn't restrict my kid's movements at all. They can sit, stand, climb, and run without any issues - it's really great for active kids like mine.
And it's not just the climbing - they can even sit on the tube without any problems.
What's also great is that we don't have to worry about our kid getting snow in their boots, gloves, or down their neck - the jacket is really secure and snow can't get in. It's a great feeling knowing they're protected and warm.
I love watching my kid play in the snow, making snow tunnels and just having a blast. It's moments like these that make me glad I invested in the Play Today 177061413 winter combo.
The Play Today 177061413 winter combo has won me over, despite its high price and a few loose threads. I've got no major complaints, and it's been a real treat to use. So, I'd definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a great winter combo!
