I recently stumbled upon Vietnam's stunning beaches, and Sunset Sanato Beach on Phu Quoc island is definitely one of the standout spots. I'd heard great things about it, so I decided to check it out for myself. The island has a lot to offer, but this beach is definitely worth a visit.
The beach was everything I'd hoped for and more. The real showstopper is its unique art installations – surrealist sculptures scattered along the shoreline, including a pair of elephants on stilts perfectly placed in the shallow water. It's a truly magical experience where the sea meets art, inspired by the works of Salvador Dali. The beach itself is pretty impressive too – the sand is soft and white, and the water is warm and inviting.
The art space was set up in anticipation of the Epizode electronic music festival, which was last held before the pandemic. It was an incredible event that brought together DJs from around the world, with the beach, music, and sunset providing the perfect backdrop. Many people compare Epizode to the infamous Kazantip festival in Crimea. Unfortunately, we visited in late December 2025, and the weather had other plans – it was overcast and rainy on the day we visited. The metal installations were still impressive, but a photo shoot was definitely out of the question.
One thing that really stood out to me about the beach was how deserted it was, probably due to the gloomy weather. On the one hand, that was a plus – it felt like I had the place almost to myself. The beach was sandy, the water was warm, and the entry into the sea was nice and gradual. However, the water near the shore was murky due to the sand mixing with it. If you're feeling peckish, there's a restaurant nearby that's worth checking out. And just opposite the beach, there's a massive parking lot for buses, cars, and motorbikes.
The elephant statues immediately caught my eye from a distance. To their right, there were swings suspended over the water, decorated with flying fish and other sea creatures. A little bridge led down to the water's edge, where you could see some really cool installations, including a staircase that seemed to go up to the sky, some bamboo structures, and some beautiful, delicate female figures with wings attached to their backs – they looked like they belonged in a cartoon. These figures really added to the artistic vibe of the place.
However, the exterior of the whole setup left a lot to be desired. Many of the art pieces were in a bit of a state – they looked a bit worn out and damaged. The beach itself wasn't as clean as some of the other spots along the coast, which made me wonder if anyone was bothering to maintain this place. It felt a bit abandoned, to be honest. So, if you're looking for something a bit quirky and off the beaten path, I suppose this could be worth a visit – but it's not exactly the most impressive or well-maintained spot.
