My Kid's Toes Still Freeze in These Boots - They're Not Cutting It for Warmth

summarizeEditor's Summary

I've tried a bunch of different boots to keep my daughter's feet warm during winter walks, but the Philipok boots from Belarus just didn't cut it. While they're marketed as being able to handle temps as low as -5°C, I'm not convinced they can handle extreme cold. My daughter's feet turn into ice cubes within 10 minutes of being outside, and I've been a cold-footed person my whole life - I guess I passed this trait down to her. The boots arrived in a sturdy cardboard box with an informative sticker, but the packaging didn't make up for the lack of warmth. If you're looking for boots that can handle cold temps, you might want to consider other options.

Welcome to my review!
I've been a cold-footed person my whole life, and it looks like I've passed this trait down to my daughter - her feet turn into ice cubes within 10 minutes of being outside in the winter. I worry sick about her during our winter walks, so after trying out several brands, I decided to give the Philipok boots from Belarus a shot. The reviews I read were overwhelmingly positive.
\xa0
A Quick Rundown:
\xa0
Where to Buy: You can find these boots online on various marketplaces.
\xa0
Price: The price fluctuates depending on the promo, but it's usually around 3,000 rubles.
Temperature Range: The manufacturer claims they can handle temperatures as low as -5°C, but I'm not sure how extreme cold they can really handle.
\xa0
Manufacturer: These boots are made in Belarus.
\xa0
Packaging:
I received a sturdy cardboard box (luckily, it wasn't damaged during delivery) with an informative sticker.
Inside the box, I found insoles, a user manual, and some valuable information about using the boots properly.
I've read that you shouldn't dry the boots on a radiator, but I still need to dry the insoles – I don't think it's a big deal.
\xa0
First Impressions:
I was immediately impressed by the boots' appearance. It's clear they're made with high-quality, natural materials and designed for comfort.
The boots have a strong sheep smell, which persists even after a month of regular wear.
Everything except the sole is made from wool. The sole is black, made of polyurethane, and quite thick – I thought this would help keep my feet warm. Unfortunately, my logic didn't quite work out.
Boots The sole is textured, which means it's almost non-slippery.
I love how the insole features a cute brown puppy design, but this model also comes with tons of other designs that are just as adorable.
SlippersThe latch is a standard one that's easy to fasten and won't get stuck.
Philok Slippers Philok SlippersThe insole has three layers, which I thought was a great feature - it's got foil and a fairly thick insole, but unfortunately, it still gets cold really quickly.
\xa0
Comfort:
These slippers are ridiculously comfortable - they're probably the first pair of shoes that I can put on and take off with ease.
The length is just right, and the ankle area bends easily in all the right places.
Despite the relatively lightweight sole, my daughter has been able to walk and run around in them with ease.
The insole comes out easily, making it a breeze to dry it out.
So, I'm completely satisfied with the quality and comfort of these slippers.
\xa0
My Experience with the Purchase:
I live in southern Russia, so we don't usually get extremely cold temperatures, but we do get some chilly days. I bought these slippers specifically for dry, frosty weather, and here's what I've observed:
At -8 degrees Celsius with two pairs of socks, my daughter's feet were cold but not freezing after 30 minutes.\xa0
At -15 degrees Celsius with two pairs of socks, I could walk around for exactly 15 minutes before my daughter's feet started to freeze.I should note that my daughter is quite active, always shoveling snow or running around, so we're not just standing still.
The problem seems to be with the toe area, which gets cold quickly, although the insole is cold too, just not as quickly.
Given the results, I could have easily bought warmer, more expensive slippers for 1,500 rubles - the difference wouldn't have been worth it.
For me, slippers are a must-have for Siberian winters, but these Philok slippers aren't up to the task. Maybe it's just a bad model, but I wouldn't recommend them for extreme cold weather.
I was worried that these boots would get waterlogged if it snowed a lot, but that's not the case: the interior is completely dry.
\xa0
Pros and Cons:
\xa0
They're gorgeousSuper affordableMade from natural and safe materialsReally comfortableThree-layer insoleWaterproof\xa0
My kid's feet freeze super fast in these boots\xa0
Verdict: If it weren't for the fact that these boots failed to keep my kid's feet warm, I'd be singing their praises and stocking up. Unfortunately, this latest purchase has left my kid's feet freezing after just 15 minutes on a chilly day – so I'm still on the hunt for the perfect boots. I'm giving these three stars from me.
\xa0
Anyone got a better suggestion?) I'd be super grateful!
