- At times, the book feels a bit self-indulgent, with Knight focusing too much on his own experiences.
- Some of the supporting characters feel a bit one-dimensional, which can make it hard to become fully invested in their stories.
- The book could benefit from a bit more context about the business side of things – it's clear that Knight is more interested in the people and the passion behind the company.
- A few of the anecdotes feel a bit repetitive, which can make the book feel a bit long-winded at times.
- The audiobook format can make it hard to keep track of the timeline – I found myself getting a bit lost at times.

I'd always heard of Phil Knight, the co-founder of Nike, but his story was a mystery to me until I picked up his book. So, what drew me to his story? I guess it was the constant mentions on recommended reads lists.
I opted for the audiobook version, downloaded from LitRes, and it had been a while since I'd listened to a book. I was curious to see how it would go.
And what a story it is! It's about a young, introverted guy who loved running, but didn't quite make it as an athlete. Instead, he had a brilliant idea to sell high-quality, functional sports shoes - the best ones out there. With no money, no connections, and no business experience, he still managed to take the leap and pursue his dream. And, as we all know, it paid off big time. He started with a small shipment of 300 Japanese running shoes and ended up on the Forbes list.
Looking back on his life, Phil Knight still can't quite put his finger on what made it all happen. Was it luck, or his relentless passion and determination? His incredible work ethic? His ability to choose the right team members and build strong relationships with partners and subordinates?
I've got to say, I'm in awe of someone who achieved his goals through sheer hard work and dedication, without any shortcuts or shady dealings. And, of course, the support of his amazing team.
I spent a few evenings digging up photos and extra info on Phil's wife, Penny, his first employee, Jeff Johnson, Bill Bowerman, Rob Strasser, and Bob Woodell... It's amazing to see how they all contributed to Nike's success.
What really struck me, though, was the sense of regret that runs throughout the book. Despite his incredible achievements, Phil Knight can't help but wonder if he sacrificed too much in his personal life for the sake of his work.
You have to pay the price for everything in life, and Phil Knight's story is a perfect example of that.
This book is truly fantastic - I highly recommend it!
