Editor's Summary
I'm wrapping up my reviews of 'Song of the Year' just in time for the Old New Year, and I remembered the 2009 concert. It's a great addition to the series, with a solid lineup and an extended concert that's more engaging than ever. The behind-the-scenes stuff is minimal, but the performances make up for it. I chose this one because it's a great representation of the decade's shift in music. The performances are more extensive and the concert feels more focused, which is a big plus. Overall, it's a must-watch for any fan of the series.

Hello everyone!
I'm trying to wrap up my reviews of 'Song of the Year' just in time for the Old New Year, and I remembered the 2009 concert.
I chose this one because it's pretty obvious why, to be honest. There's a connection between this and the other ones I've mentioned, and it's not like I'm trying to force it. In the 90s, I didn't really find anything that caught my attention, and I didn't want to review anything from before that because I wouldn't be objective.
It feels like it's been a while since the 'Song of the Year' from 2013, but the difference is really noticeable. Whether it's the lineup or the overall vibe, it's clear that we've crossed into a new decade - one where everything has become stale, lost its meaning, and even its spark.
Just like it is now, the concert is divided into two parts, each lasting 2.5 hours. But this time, there's a lot less of the behind-the-scenes stuff, and the concert itself is more extensive.
Since around the middle of the 2000s, Lera Kudryavtseva and Sergey Lazarev have been the main hosts of the concert.
Song of the Year 2009But they're not as comfortable with each other yet, or maybe they're still in the 'confetti and bouquet' phase - it's cute, charming, and even a bit endearing. But that's about to change, and it's been that way ever since. Now, let's get to the concert.
Part one...
Nikolay Baskov - Everything's in Bloom
Song of the Year 2009This is one of his standout tracks, right after 'The Toy Piano'. The music is pleasant, and the lyrics are catchy. Although, personally, I have some not-so-pleasant memories associated with this song...I got really sick around that time and was stuck at home during the holidays, and Nikolay's 'Everything's in Bloom' was playing everywhere. It wasn't funny back then, though. He's not singing as beautifully as he used to, but he's still got it together. The 'gathering flowers' bit looks a bit cheesy, though.
Irina Allegrova - 'The Princess'
Song of the Year 2009I don't even remember this song. Maybe they were trying to follow in the footsteps of 'The Empress', but it just didn't work out. The image of a woman in a luxurious dress and corset is still there, though. Nowadays, songs are more about digging deep rather than just being a sad, strong, and beautiful woman.Sergey Trofimov - 'The City in Traffic'
Song of the Year 2009 Honestly, I don't remember this song by Trofim at all. I'd name a few other tracks of his, even though his music isn't really my thing, but this one's definitely not stuck in my head.VIA GRA - Madman
Via Gra with Granovskaya, Djanaeva, and Kotova - it's like the 'last gasps' before the launch of the 'new Via Gra', so I remember it pretty well.
Song of the Year 2009Behind the scenes...The morning show still has its quirky moments.
Song of the Year 2009Alexander Serebryakov and Igor Krotov - Davai drug druga ukradem
Song of the Year 2009It's all very familiar, although I'd barely remember this song by Serebryakov, but somehow it seems like something better than "Ya lyublyu tebya do slez" hasn't been thought of yet.Valeria - Nikto kak ty
Song of the Year 2009It's still a lot simpler, no more of that cold, pretentious 'diva' vibe, there's still some fragile charm to it... The song was pretty well-known back in the day.Stas Pivovarov - Mezhdu nebo i zemley
Song of the Year 2009Debutant of 'Song of the Year' at the time. How things have changed - it's a shame it wasn't for the better... Yeah, that silly cross 'on my bare chest' had something amusing to it, and the soulfulness... Which is now, sadly, gone for good. Replaced with this pretentiousness that's just laughable, it feels like he's overdone it and doesn't know how to do anything else...The song itself, I hardly remember, but the image from back then seems more familiar and relatable.
Tatyana Bulanova - Beskonchenchnaya istoriya
Song of the Year 2009This is the Bulanova I like! No more of those lips on half her face and excessive 'show-off-ness' in general, no more tears and whining in the distance, just a carefree, easy-listening song. Anthem for all Tanyas, I'd say.
Gosha Kutsenko and the group 'Chi-li' - Skazki
Song of the Year 2009 I'd love to take back my words about Kuznetsov's 'singing', because it's actually pretty decent. It even fits in here, and the voice is kind of pleasant... but what happened now? Either modern 'songs' are something so unique... I only remembered the song after listening to it halfway through.
City 312 - Stay
Song of the Year 2009 One of the most striking and recognizable songs from the group, even to this day. But back in the day, it seemed dull and melancholic... so I only managed to 'listen' to it over time. Nastya - Waging War on the Moon
Song of the Year 2009 Probably one of the early stages of Nastya's career, when she was still on 'New Wave', and that's exactly the period that I still enjoy. She's a beautiful, natural girl. The songs might have seemed like just a bunch of words, but compared to modern ones... it's easy to remember them, in general. DJ Smash - Best Songs
Song of the Year 2009 I don't remember this one at all. Even the fact that Smash was trying to be serious back in the day... this song is kind of similar. But Smash is better at DJing than singing, in my opinion. Belarusian Songwriters - My Soul
Song of the Year 2009 Song of the Year 2009 Unlike other popular songs from this group, I don't remember this one at all... or if they even sang it, it was rare, unlike their other hits. But it's a nice gift for the older generation. Bianca - For You
Song of the Year 2009 The 'Queen of Russian R'n'B', that's what they called her back then. I didn't really enjoy this kind of music, but you couldn't ignore her at the time. She had a good voice and relatively good lyrics... too bad she went into hiding for a while. But she's trying to come back now. Dmitry Malakov - My, My
Song of the Year 2009 I have to admit, it took me a while to remember this song. It's classic Malykov - nothing too out of the ordinary. Glukoza - Money
Song of the Year 2009 I'm still not entirely sure what this song was about... It felt like some kind of 'song snippet' or something. The song ended, but I still couldn't remember it. You can still feel the confusion between the old Glukoza with electronic effects in her voice and the new one. Maybe that's why it looked so strange.
Lev Leshchenko - Girl from the Past and a duet with Vyacheslav Dobryinin - Goodbye
Song of the Year 2009 The first one is a classic Leshchenko song, and the second one is a timeless hit, no matter how you look at it.
Song of the Year 2009 Nepara - Cute
Song of the Year 2009 The duet 'Nepara' is still alive and well in its classic form, although I thought they had broken up a long time ago. The song is deep and beautiful, and it's one of the few that I really love. And yet, no matter how hard Alexander tries to push another girl as the lead singer, who doesn't really stand out either in appearance or voice, it's the sound of Victoria that creates that magic. And it's that magic that makes almost every song a hit. Yulia Savicheva - Goodbye Love
Song of the Year 2009 This isn't exactly the most memorable solo song by Yulia. But it's probably where she started to transform from a tomboy into a sweet, gentle girl - which definitely suited her.
Iosif Kobzon - Women of Russia
Song of the Year 2009 This is a classic Kobzon song with a light patriotic twist. Velvet - Forgive
Song of the Year 2009Pesnyaya was a complex song, even with a slightly depressing depth... But what was then playing everywhere and 'tearing' its awards is a fact. I caught myself thinking that I actually remember it really well even now.Igor Nikolaev and Yulia Proskuryakova - SMS
Song of the Year 2009 Song of the Year 2009New 'muse' for Igor Nikolaev. The start of 'tearful romance', which continues to this day... But this song is catchy, even maybe too much. They sang a duet many times, but I only remember her.Angelica Agurbash - Rosa on the Snow
Song of the Year 2009I used to see Angelica a lot, but I never really liked her... Her songs didn't stick with me, and she was just too pretty. I barely remember this song.Group BiS - Little Boats
Song of the Year 2009'Crashing' their time, and I think they were finding their style and sound for future Mbanda here...I'm still stuck on the chorus - 'Katya, take the phone...' though...)
Song of the Year 2009I actually liked the songs, but they didn't look like my thing.
Song of the Year 2009MacSim - Best Night
Song of the Year 2009I've already forgotten how her songs used to be in the 'nostalgia' section... But it feels like it was just recently that every schoolgirl thought it was an honor to 'suffer' under her songs. I was never that into her fanbase, but compared to now, it was definitely better. Even just in terms of content.Uma-Turman - It Seems
Song of the Year 2009I don't even remember this song. But 'Praskovya' or the sound of 'Papiny Dochki', that's what I'm talking about...)Group 'Cveti' - We Wish You Happiness
Song of the Year 2009 Another timeless hit. And another great gift to the audience of the older generation. Oksana Fedorova and Nikolai Baskov - True Love
Song of the Year 2009 Who doesn't remember this 'sweet couple'? I think there aren't any like them. They must have shown their feelings somewhere. The most 'deadly' was probably the number at the 'Golden Gramophone' somewhere around the same time.
Song of the Year 2009Janna Friske - There's White Sand on the Beach
Song of the Year 2009 This is probably one of Janna's last appearances on TV and such a big concert in general. She was bright, healthy, beautiful, and the kind of person everyone was used to seeing.
Sergey Lazarev and the Children's Choir of Radio Russia
Song of the Year 2009Memorable numbers happen quite often, and this is one of them. They still knew how to 'give you goosebumps' back then, first with profound lyrics...
Song of the Year 2009 And then with a song in memory of Ludmila Zykina.
Song of the Year 2009 And it's like I believed Lazarev even more back then. More emotion and depth... definitely, he still sings songs like this, whether people like it or not, but there's a feeling that 'this is what's needed now', not because it's coming from the heart and soul...
But here it was exactly like that, to grab you. Diskoteka Avaria - Love Planet
Song of the Year 2009 I don't remember any song like this from them. So it's probably just a passing one, unlike many others. 'Diskoteka' will participate again, but already in a not-so-familiar composition. Part Two...
Philip Kirkorov - Just Give
Song of the Year 2009I'm not gonna lie, this is a pretty understated look for Kirov, just a simple black outfit. But the song is actually really nice, it's catchy from the first listen.
The song was written by Andrey Alexin, and it's like he's saying 'you're so scary' but then you're surprised by how beautiful it is.
Song of the Year 2009Valery Leontiev - Cuban Music
Song of the Year 2009This is just another bright, flashy song that I completely forgot about.Lolita - Tell Me
Song of the Year 2009I actually found it easier to remember this song by Lolita, it was played a lot back in the day. And the song was written by Kostya Legostaev, who used to be a contestant on 'Factory of Stars'.Boris Moiseev and Laima Vaikule - Rainbow
Song of the Year 2009I wouldn't have remembered this duet even if I tried. And the song isn't really impressive, I never really had a lot of respect for Laima's music.Christina Orbakaitė - Enough Show
Song of the Year 2009This is just another forgettable song, I probably wouldn't have remembered it if I hadn't re-watched the concert.Valery and Konstantin Meladze - Against
Song of the Year 2009This is definitely a hit that was everywhere back in the day.Serebro - Sweet
Song of the Year 2009It's almost like a classic Serebro lineup, without any of the explicit content. And almost every song from that period was super catchy.Alsou - First Hour of January
Song of the Year 2009 Something about it feels quintessentially winter-new-year, clearly not a hit that's going to stand the test of time. So, it's no surprise that I almost didn't remember this song.Soso Pavliashvili, Irakli, Alexei Chumakov, and VIA "Sliwki" - Argo
Song of the Year 2009 Again, this is a memorable number for the author of the song. And the performers - it's a real mishmash. "Sliwki" seem like an odd choice here... a purely male performance would have been more fitting. I also thought that "Sliwki" had already disbanded by this point, but I guess not.
Song of the Year 2009 Song of the Year 2009 Song of the Year 2009Taisia Povaliy - May You Succeed in Love
Song of the Year 2009 Honestly, I don't know her repertoire that well, so the song doesn't really say anything to me. But it's something that feels typical, right in her style.Alexander Buynov - South-North
Song of the Year 2009 It's like every year, they show up as a "guest performer" at the festival... this song is slightly more memorable than the others.BandEros - Adyes
Song of the Year 2009 To be honest, I don't really remember this song by them, so I don't have much to say about it.Leonid Agutin - You Don't Know
Song of the Year 2009 The song is pretty forgettable, to be honest... I wouldn't have remembered it if I hadn't seen it here.Anzhelika Varum - If He Leaves
Song of the Year 2009 It's the same with Anzhelika - those hit songs that you remember instantly (like "Winter Cherry" or "Town"... they're clearly from the 90s.Yadviha Poplavskaya and Alexander Tihanovich (soloists of the ensemble "Verasi") - Malinovka
Song of the Year 2009My parents are going to love this retro gift. And of course, the song is timeless.Vintage Group - Eva
Song of the Year 2009Remember when this song was everywhere? It's a nod to Eva Polena and "Guests from the Future". Even though it's from back in the day, the songs from that era still hold up well.Duet "Pair of Normals" - Happy End
Song of the Year 2009Song of the Year 2009This is one of those cases where you don't even need to know the artists, but the song was a hit back in the day. Even if you didn't want to know about it, you somehow knew the chorus.Sergey Lazarev - Find Me
Song of the Year 2009I couldn't immediately remember this song unless it was the chorus.Irina Dubcova - As It Shouldn't Be
Song of the Year 2009These are just the typical whiny songs in Dubcova's style, even though some of them sound similar, they're still way better than some of the stuff out there today.Yuri Shatunov - Childhood
Song of the Year 2009This is an incredible case: this song has survived not one, but two waves of audience love in the 80s, again in the 2000s, and now in the 2010s. But it still hasn't aged and is loved to this day. And that's exactly why Yuri was able to get on the festival twice with the same song, even though he had his own solo songs at the time, and it had the same "breakthrough" effect. It's hilarious to watch the crowd in that moment! Smiles don't leave their faces, grown-up ladies and serious guys are dancing and singing along...
This kid who never had a childhood has been giving us childhood for years now.Guests from the Future - Behind the Star
Song of the Year 2009 I was sure that by this point, the group had already disbanded and Eva had started her solo career... But here we are, still observing the same thing, it seems she wasn't that different anyway. To be honest, the song didn't really leave an impression on me.Timati and V.K. - Forever
Song of the Year 2009 I don't remember any other song by Timati like this. It's strange to see something so 'serious and lyrical' after his rap, it just doesn't fit. Although, I do remember the 'vanilla points' from Fabrika.Ani Lorak - Sun
Song of the Year 2009 One of Lorak's bright hits that I still remember to this day.Vladimir Presnyakov and Natalia Podolskaya - You're with Me
Song of the Year 2009 There's nothing special about this one. The song is in a typical 'drabishyevskiy' style, and I don't even remember it.Dima Bilan - Lady Song of the Year 2009 This is a weird case: I remember the melody, but I have no idea what the song is about or what the lyrics are. Back then, Bilan was young, bold, and energetic. He was still riding the wave of his Eurovision win.Sofia Rotaru - I Decided on My Own and It Was, But It's Gone
Song of the Year 2009 The first song is pretty forgettable, I'd even say it's just an average song...
Song of the Year 2009 But the second one was a hit that everyone sang along to.A-Studio Group - Just Like Everyone
Song of the Year 2009 This is a cover of a Pugacheva song. I think there were too many of these covers back then, but they did sing it pretty well, without ruining it too much. Although, I'm not a big fan of Katie's singing style. And, of course, the legendary festival anthem Song Remains with a Person is at the very end, as per tradition Song of the Year 2009 And that's a wrap... I'd say there was just a little bit left before the Song of the Year we know today, but there's definitely a transitional period from the 2000s to the 2010s. The concerts from the 2000s had a more chill vibe, but you can already see the plasticity creeping in, which would become more and more noticeable in the 2010s and 2020s.
That's all from me!
Song of the Year 2002
