I used to clutter my kitchen with pots and pans, but once I got my storage sorted, I decided to give my plants a home on the shelves instead. The shelves are tucked away in a corner near a north-facing window, which gets limited natural light. I really needed some extra lighting to help my plants thrive!
I plugged an old lamp from my balcony into a regular socket with an E27 base. It's not a super powerful light, but it's perfect for a small area like this. Check out the photo of it in action on a winter evening - it creates a nice big pool of light, and it's close enough to the plants to really make a difference:
I ordered this lamp on Ozon about three years ago, and it arrived in great condition in a branded box with bubble wrap. The box itself is a bit flimsy and glossy, but it's got all the important info on it, like the spectrum, temperature, and power consumption:
On the other side of the box, you can see the dimensions and product code:
Maximum width: 60mm,
Length: 110mm
Inside the box, there was also an instruction manual:
I didn't really read it, though - the important stuff is all on the box. I mean, who needs instructions when you've got a clear label with all the details?
Take a closer look, and you'll see that the light has a warm, creamy glow. Inside, there are white and a bit of red LEDs:
As my plant collection grew, I ended up using this light on multiple shelves. It's been working great for my small plants, and I'm really happy with the results.
I've got four small pots, each with a diameter of around 7-9cm, which is roughly the size of a standard cup. The light is sufficient, and there's no pale color, even in a relatively dark corner. My current setup looks like this:
For these small, point-like plants, this light is really good. It gives a bright spot of light, and the plants under it are doing great. I've positioned the light so it's not shining directly in anyone's eyes, but the LEDs are still bright enough to cause discomfort without diffusing them.
I've been using this light for a couple of years now. It does get a bit warm, especially in the new light fixture I have with two sockets. In contrast, the previous light, which is on my balcony, and the single light on a nail, hardly got warm at all.
One thing I've noticed is that the light's performance hasn't decreased over time. It still provides the same amount of light, and the color temperature remains consistent. I've also noticed that the light's design is quite durable, and it can withstand minor bumps and scratches.
Overall, I'm really pleased with this light. It's been a game-changer for my plants, and I would definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a reliable and efficient grow light.
Here are some tips for using this light effectively:
Place the light at a comfortable distance from your plants. This will ensure that the light is not too intense or too weak.
Adjust the light's angle to suit your plants' needs. This will help to prevent over- or under-lighting.
Use a timer to regulate the light's usage. This will help to simulate a natural day-night cycle and promote healthy plant growth.
Monitor your plants' response to the light. If you notice any signs of stress or discomfort, adjust the light's position or intensity accordingly.
