Ozon's Sneaky Change to Financing Terms Leaves Me Feeling Betrayed

summarizeEditor's Summary

I'm still fuming about Ozon's policy change that left me feeling misled and betrayed. I've been using their installment plan for over a year, but they've recently changed the terms without notice. The new policy forces you to pay the full amount upfront, which is a total game changer for those who rely on installment plans. I've been paying my share, but now I'm stuck with a huge bill. I'm not alone in this feeling, as many customers have expressed their disappointment with the new policy. I'm worried that this change will hurt a lot of people who were counting on the installment plan to make ends meet.

I'm writing this review on a whim, still fuming about Ozon's policy change that left me feeling stabbed in the back and misled.
I've been trying to avoid using popular sites like Ozon and VTB for installment plans, but life has other plans, and I need to buy things, even if I don't have the money.
Last year, I started using Ozon's installment plan actively, re-reading countless reviews about it, studying the topic, and understanding where I was overpaying and what I needed to do.
I signed up, used it successfully until today.
I regularly paid the amount I owed, never missed a payment.
I bought clothes, shoes, a stroller for winter, even diapers for my kid, because in some months, we were forced to survive on the money I earned on Irecommend.

Of course, each purchase with an installment plan came with a slight markup, making the price higher than if I'd paid with my own card or Ozon's card.
I knew it, I understood I'd have to pay for the installment plan eventually, and every month, I'd need to cover it – all of this was familiar to me, and I followed the rules.
xa0
I've been using Ozon for a while now, and it's been a lifesaver lately, thanks to this installment plan – it was super convenient to use, buy things I needed, and pay around 4-5 thousand rubles each month.

xa0
My Ozon installment plan limit was 45,000 rubles.
xa0
I currently owe 15,000 rubles.
It's not that much, but I won't be able to pay it off right now, not even half of it.
xa0
Today, I wanted to buy a phone case, since mine is literally broken – and I stumbled upon this ad...
xa0
Nice update, nice, no big deal!
I click...
xa0
That's it! The installment plan is over. According to Ozon, all debtors need to pay off their debts to continue using the installment plan.
So, you're trying to clear your debt before the new year?....
But what about the agreement that the installment plan was for six months?.....
No one even bothered to warn me about this! What if they suddenly demand that I pay off my entire debt so I can continue using the installment plan?....
xa0
I wrote to customer support to confirm that I wasn't mistaken.
And I got confirmation that, yeah, I wasn't mistaken.
xa0
No notifications whatsoever!
Or maybe it popped up and disappeared before I could even read it.
Where is it?...
Last news from Ozon about new features was from October 6, and it's not even about the installment plan!
xa0
And there's nothing anywhere!
xa0
Even if they had warned me about this new development, it wouldn't have helped me. I'm not in a position to pay off my debt right now, and I wasn't planning to stop using the installment plan anyway....
But, alas, Ozon has taken that option away from me.
I've got to say, I'm still reeling from this whole ordeal with Ozon's updated installment plan.
I'd have given it a solid 5 stars just a few months ago, because with it I could buy things for my kid, myself, and still pay off my debt in installments, with only a small interest rate.
But after this sneaky update, I'm giving it a 1, because I lost the ability to use it altogether, and now I'm forced to pay off the entire balance right now.
So now I'll be paying off the remaining balance for another year, and I won't even be able to use the installment plan anymore (.
Maybe there's some fine print in the contract that lets them do this (I'm not sure), but even my bank, Sberbank, has never pulled a stunt like this. I've got a credit card and a mortgage, and they've always been willing to work with me, even when I couldn't make payments.
They've never forced me to pay off the entire balance at once - that's just not right.
Ozon, you're treating your customers really poorly here!
Maybe your new installment plan is better, but people don't just take out installment plans because they feel like it - we do it because it's convenient to pay in installments, not all at once. And lots of people won't be able to take advantage of your new features.
One star!
