I've spent a small fortune on the original BeautyBlender throughout my makeup journey, and I'm not alone. I've tried countless sponges from various brands and price points, and some of them were absolute game-changers.

I've experimented with all sorts of sponges, from different materials to textures, and in this review, I'll be sharing my honest thoughts on what makes the original BeautyBlender stand out in terms of material and performance.
When I spotted the original BeautyBlender on sale for 900 rubles in November, I couldn't resist – it's a steal compared to the usual 1500 rubles. And let me tell you, it's been a workhorse for over 3 months now!

I opted for the classic pink one since the black one was out of stock.

A Look at the BeautyBlender Original - My Review
The packaging is pretty basic - a transparent plastic case that's similar to what you'd find with other beauty sponges, like the Mischa Vidyaeve Double Touch Sponge. Inside, there's a cardboard insert with the logo and some product info.

• TEXTURE •
xa0
I'm pretty sure this is a non-latex sponge.
The shape is great - it's like a little droplet, and the size is just right. The texture is nice and porous, kind of like a soft sponge, but the holes aren't too big.

A Look at the BeautyBlender Original - My Review
It's super soft and smooth, even when it's dry - you won't get any nasty surprises when you're applying it.
The little 'nose' part is really thin, making it easy to get into tight spaces like under the eyes or around the nose.

I've been using this regularly for a while now, and I'm impressed that the 'nose' part hasn't gotten all frayed or lost any bits.

I use it for everything – from foundation to cream highlighter. When it gets wet, it expands to about 1.5 times its original size:

And yeah, the pink sponge sheds a bit 😅. The first 5 washes will have pink water, but the sponge itself doesn't change color.
It becomes soft, springy, but still pliable. It's like the perfect middle ground.

Coveragexa0
I've gotta say, applying foundation with a brush or sponge is a whole different story. With a sponge like BeautyBlender, you get a much lighter coverage because it absorbs some of the product. But don't worry, it's not like you're not getting any coverage at all!
The result is a super fine layer that keeps my skin looking natural, not caked on with makeup. It's like a magic eraser for my skin, smoothing out all the imperfections and leaving me with a flawless finish.

No masks, no clogged pores, no cakey layers!

BeautyBlender Original Pink - review
This thing gives me a flawless, smooth finish that's 100% on point. For me, it's the best way to apply foundation - I've never gotten a more natural-looking finish with any other brush or sponge.xa0

The BeautyBlender literally smooths out my skin, applying foundation like a dream - even on aging skin.

Easy and quick application
With the BeautyBlender, applying foundation takes me no more than a few minutes. You don't need to be a pro at makeup to get a great finish - anyone can do it.
I've gotta say, not all sponges are created equal. Some just give the illusion of blending foundation, but in reality, you're just dragging it around your face, trying to stretch it out because of their dense texture. That's basically like slapping egg yolks on your face.
Let's face it, finding the perfect makeup sponge can be a real challenge. Either it's too dense and takes up all the product, or it's too soft and spongy, absorbing 90% of the toner in the process. And then there's the ideal balance - which, quite frankly, I've yet to find. But in this case, they've got it just right.

BeautyBlender Original Pink Sponge - review
The shape is super familiar and really easy to use - I love that every inch of my face gets covered.
It's also great for correcting mistakes, like too much blush or contour.
So, what sets it apart? For me, it's the perfect balance of softness and firmness - like a feather, but still springy enough to apply the toner smoothly.
xa0
Highlighting the downsidesxa0
As someone with dry skin and perpetual flakiness, I need a sponge that can smooth out the rough bits and lay the foundation evenly. And this one delivers - it's like a mini-massage for my skin, and the toner applies like a dream.
Of course, it's only effective if you're not dealing with a patchy, flaky mess - in which case, no sponge can save the day.

The best part? It doesn't accentuate the fine lines and wrinkles, and it doesn't cake up in the creases. Major win.

• PRODUCT CONSUMPTION •
xa0
If you want to get the most value out of this product, here's a little tip: apply a primer or some moisturizer before your foundation. That way, a portion of the product will already be absorbed into the sponge, and the foundation will soak up much less of it.
Of course, it eats just like any other sponge. You can see it's not excessive even after use. When you wash it, only a tiny bit of foundation comes out - I wouldn't call it a heavy feeder.
xa0
• LONGEVITY •
xa0
Despite what others might say, this sponge is a real long-distance runner. The main problem with most sponges is that they start to crumble and tear quickly. I get crumbs from my sponges after about a month of regular use, and they always seem to end up with some torn areas - especially if you have long nails.
I think this sponge looks brand new after three and a half months! Not a single crumb or crack in sight.

Of course, I'm being gentle with it, just like I am with any other sponge - and I wash it after every use.
I've seen some people mention that you need special cleaning products for this sponge, but let me tell you, I've been washing all my sponges for years with regular antibacterial bar soap and they come out like new.

BeautyBlender Original Pink Sponge - review
Just get a good bar of soap, wring it out, and give it a good squeeze - my sponge is good as new. I don't know what's going on with some people, but try my method and see the difference!

• CLOSEST ANALOGUES •
xa0
I've tried so many different sponges over the years, but I had no idea what to expect from the BeautyBlender until I got my hands on it.
When I first took it out of the box, I gave it a good squeeze and took a closer look - you know what immediately came to mind?
Now you'll probably laugh.
xa0
It was the texture of the beige Good Look sponge from Fix Price.
xa0
They're virtually identical in terms of texture and quality - and I've always loved the Fix Price sponge.

I want to emphasize that my review is specifically about the beige BeautyBlender, as the pink one is a completely different story and comes from a different Good Look line, sold in a sealed black package.

What do you think, Elon Max?xa0
If I had to rank the top analogs of the original BeautyBlender from most similar to least similar, it would look like this:

💁🏻♀️ The Verdict:
xa0
If I add up all the money I've spent on short-lived but decent sponges, it's clear that buying one original BeautyBlender is the better value in the long run. You get what you pay for, and it's no surprise this one has become so incredibly popular.
The gold standard of sponges.
