Hello everyone!
I'm not a fan of making big grocery hauls at hypermarkets, especially when I'm with my husband on a rare day off. To be honest, I just don't want to spend the whole day pushing carts and waiting in line at the checkout. I've wanted to try online grocery delivery for a long time, but I was always worried that they'd bring something subpar. In the store, you get to pick everything yourself, but with delivery, you're basically just getting whatever they throw in the bag. But I finally decided to give Okay a shot, especially since the minimum order was just 1999 rubles. I ordered some veggies, meat, and canned goods that time. To my surprise, they even threw in a few free bottles of drinks to try out. After my first successful order, I've been making all my big grocery runs online ever since.
In this review, I'll be showing you my latest pretty big order.
Check out how many bags the courier brought:
According to the app, my order weighed 39 kg.
Now, let me tell you more about what was in my order.
Household essentials:
Now, this one seemed like a no-brainer, but it wasn't. I ordered a toothbrush with a Spider-Man character for my 4-year-old son, but they sent a Barbie one instead. Needless to say, the little guy was not thrilled about brushing his teeth with it. So, it's still sitting on the shelf.
Canned goods:
This one was a breeze. Canned goods are always in stock and can be safely ordered online.
Eggs:
The eggs arrived perfectly intact, just like always.
Dairy and sausages:
I've never had any issues with the expiration dates of their dairy products, just like their meat products.
Meat:
The meat is always fresh. I've never had any issues with the pork being too fatty, or the shrimp being frozen too long. One thing I always mention is that I prefer smaller chickens, around 1.5 kg. But they usually send me chickens that are 1.7-1.9 kg.
Fish:
This time, I ordered a shark steak. Although the expiration dates on both packages are good, it's clear that one package was frozen and thawed multiple times. I wouldn't have chosen it in a store.
Fruits:
The fruits are always good, just like always.
Vegetables:
I always order vegetables with delivery, and I've never had any significant issues.
I always buy 2-3 packs of 5 kg potatoes, and they're always good. This time, I got two packs that looked like they were different varieties:
They give you these delivery slips where it says what they brought, what they replaced, etc.
I've had some issues with replacing items in my order. They'd usually call to confirm if I wanted to swap it out for something else. But in this case, they didn't even ask about the toothbrush!
There were a few times when the delivery person wouldn't call to let me know that an item was out of stock, they'd just remove it from the order. And in one instance, they swapped out the items that weren't in stock without even asking me - they replaced the herb seasoning for meat with some generic chemical-laden stuff, and the floor cleaner with lemon instead of lavender, which I really dislike. There were a few other disappointing swaps in that order. I was so fed up that I thought about switching to a different store.
And now, about the return policy:
When I got the courier, I'd only check the packages for the first 1-2 orders, and then just glance over the rest to make sure everything was there. I'd let the courier go without double-checking.
So, I'm stuck with the toothbrush they sent me, which I can't return. I'm already out 169 rubles. And to return an item that's not up to par, I have to go all the way to the Okay store that delivered my groceries in the first place.
I looked into how long it takes to get to Okay from my place using public transportation - it's exactly an hour one way. Would I really go through the hassle of spending at least 2-3 hours if I didn't like something? Unlikely. The return policy is super inconvenient.
The pros of Okay delivery:
Convenient time slotsAffordable pricesFree elevator servicePolite drivers who always call to confirm if they're running early or lateA relatively low minimum order requirement of 2700 rubles (it used to be 1999 rubles)Free deliveryThey bring fresh, good-quality productsThere are good order packers who call to confirm and coordinateThe cons of Okay delivery:
I've had some issues with the order fulfillment team, where they'd remove items that weren't in stock or swap them out for different products without my consent. The app is slow and frustrating to use.I've had a few instances where I received a product that wasn't what I ordered. The return policy is pretty terrible, to be honest. It's made me hesitant to return anything that didn't work out.Despite all the issues, I kept coming back to Okay Delivery because the pros outweighed the cons. Now I'm thinking of trying out Perekrestok or igoods to see how they compare.
