My Rollercoaster Experience at October Cinema

summarizeEditor's Summary

I recently hit up the October cinema in Moscow to catch the movie 'Rush' with my friend, and let me tell you, it was a wild ride of highs and lows. The cinema's atmosphere is seriously iconic and hyped for a reason - it's one of the most beautiful in Moscow. But the bar? Total letdown. The prices are outrageous, and the service can be slow and unfriendly, especially during peak hours. The food options are limited and overpriced, making it hard to find something decent to eat. The regular seats are comfy, but can be a bit cramped for taller folks. The huge screens make for an immersive viewing experience, though, and the staff is friendly and helpful, even when things get chaotic. The cinema's location is convenient, with plenty of parking options nearby. If you're looking for a movie night spot, the October cinema is worth checking out, but be prepared for some ups and downs.

A Cinema Experience with Ups and Downs
I finally convinced my friend to join me at the October cinema to watch 'Rush' over the weekend. We're those girls who get a kick out of going to the movies, and I'd been wanting to check out October specifically because of its atmosphere. It's one of the most iconic and hyped cinemas in Moscow, with beautiful auditoriums and huge screens. But let me tell you, my experience was a real mixed bag - in more ways than one.
First off, the tickets. We got a regular seat, and one ticket cost 300 rubles, so two tickets were 600 rubles. That's not bad, especially considering the quality of the cinema. I'm used to paying way more for a movie like this in Moscow. But then we got to the bar, and that's where things got crazy.
The regular popcorn without caramel or any toppings cost 620 rubles! I actually asked the cashier if she was serious. Even in chain cinemas, you get huge buckets for that price. But we ended up getting it because the movie is long, and I didn't want to leave to buy something cheaper. The taste was good, though - it was fresh, crunchy, and delicious. But the price was completely unjustified. I'd say it was extremely overpriced.
As for the drinks, a 0.5-liter bottle of Dobryy Limon cost 250 rubles. I was totally lost on this one because in the store, it's around 70-80 rubles. I get it, it's a cinema, they have to make a profit, but a markup of three times is just ridiculous. We ended up spending more on snacks and drinks than on the two tickets combined.
Now, about the cinema itself. The screen is huge, the picture is bright, and the sound is amazing. It's a total game-changer. The seats are comfortable, although they're not new. But they're still pretty good, and you don't feel any discomfort during the movie. The immersion is total.
The movie itself is great, by the way. It's a real adrenaline rush, and on a big screen, it's an absolute pleasure. I even caught myself thinking that I should've gone to the IMAX screening, but I'm sure the prices are even higher. At one point, I stopped eating popcorn because I was so engrossed in the movie.
The atmosphere of the cinema is also pretty special. The high ceilings, the spacious foyer, and the overall style all give it a sense of history and prestige. It feels like you're not just in any ordinary cinema, but in a place with some real character. Unfortunately, the service was a total letdown. The line at the ticket counter was super slow, and the cashier seemed to be having a bad day.
I've got to admit, my experience at the October cinema was a bit of a rollercoaster. On the one hand, the quality of the sound and picture was amazing, and the movie was totally worth it. On the other hand, I'm still trying to wrap my head around the fact that we spent almost a thousand rubles on snacks and drinks, which is way more than the two tickets combined. I feel a bit ripped off, to be honest. The cinema has history, but the prices at the bar are just too steep.
So, if you're planning to go there, I'd say go for the tickets - they're reasonably priced. But skip the snacks and drinks, or at least don't get too carried away. Trust me, you won't regret it.
I'd give the October cinema 3 out of 5 stars. While it has its flaws, it's still a great place to watch a movie. Just be prepared for some sticker shock at the bar.
Great sound and picture quality Comfortable seats Unique atmosphere
Overpriced snacks and drinks Slow service Expensive drinks
