I'm sharing my experience with Northern Metropole, a super-recommended confectionery in St. Petersburg that's supposed to be amazing for desserts and a post-argument pick-me-up.
As I stepped inside, I couldn't help but think I'd walked into a scene from 'What Men Talk About': the place was fancy, like the Louvre.
It's upscale inside, with a stunning display case full of pastries, cookies, and cakes that'll make your mouth water.
I went back and forth a few times trying to decide what to get - the red velvet, chocolate-mint, or mooncake all caught my eye.
But in the end, I went with the mooncake, and of course, I needed a coffee to go with it.
While I waited for my coffee, I checked out the restroom - it's a good thing I'm not one of those 'street people' who might need to use it.
The door has a code lock, and you can find the code on your receipt or ask the staff.
The restroom is a bit cramped, and there's no room for a purse, but it's clean, at least.
After a few minutes, I picked up my mooncake and medium-sized cappuccino and headed to a table.
The coffee was great, but the mooncake was a letdown - it reminded me of my childhood nightmare, the 'Fairy Tale' cake. You can have the biscuit and filling, but the top layer was a mess.
Next time, I'll give this confectionery another chance, but for now, my expectations weren't met.
