This monastery boasts two stunning churches: the Sobor of Saint Alexander Nevsky and the Church of the Icon of the Mother of God "The Joy of All Who Sorrow".

It's a federally protected cultural heritage site and an exemplary example of late-classicist architecture.

The monastery's history

This monastery has been around for over 200 years, and its story is a fascinating and tragic one. It's filled with pivotal encounters and coincidences that have shaped the course of Russian history. One notable example is the involvement of Emperor Alexander I, Emperor Alexander II, Emperor Nicholas II, and Admiral Ushakov.

The future igumena of the Nizhne-Tikhvinsky Women's Monastery managed to secure the support of Admiral Ushakov, the only naval commander to be canonized by the Russian Orthodox Church.

Later on, she also received the blessing of the reigning Emperor Alexander I, who visited the monastery during his trip to the Urals in 1824.

The future Emperor Alexander II also paid a visit to the monastery in 1837.

The sisters of this monastery provided food to Nicholas II and his family, who were imprisoned in Yekaterinburg in 1918. Unfortunately, they suffered as a result.

Inside the church, there are relics of revered saints, including a fragment of the relics of Saint Great Prince Alexander Nevsky, Saint Nicholas the Wonderworker, righteous warrior Feodor Ushakov, The Ark with fragments of the relics of the Kiev-Pechersk saints, The Ark with the relics of 25 holy martyrs.

There are plenty of eye-catching Christmas and New Year's compositions with ornaments, candles, snowflakes, and evergreen branches.

The variety of festive tableware and treats is impressive: chocolate, marzipan, candies, and homemade gingerbread. There's so much more to see.

Easter decorations are a different story.

You can also buy icons with images and likenesses of saints.

Monastery Cafe
