Editor's Summary
I gotta say, I was really excited to get my hands on the New Year's Gift 'Gift from the Little Horse' from the 'Red and White' store. But, after using it for a bit, I have to admit that it's not as great as I thought it'd be. The quality of the stitching on the horse is pretty subpar, and it's not something I'd want to give to my kid or even have in my home.
Specifications
Hey guys, can you believe it's already three months until Christmas? It feels like just yesterday I was thinking about what to get my mom for the holiday, and now the stores are already stocking up on New Year's decorations and gifts. I stopped by the 'Red and White' store to grab some milk, and that's where I first saw this cute little horse figurine that's supposed to be a symbol of the year 2026.
I have to admit, at first, I wasn't too impressed with the gift. But then I saw a review of it in a VK group, and after that, I started seeing more and more people talking about it online. My mom even saw it and said, 'Hey, get me one of those horse figurines!' It's a tradition she shares with her sisters - they always buy each other gifts that represent the current year.
When I got to the store, I saw that they had two different color options for the horse figurine - a beige one and a brown one. I have to say, the brown one looked way cooler to me.
New Year's Gift 'Gift from the Little Horse' from the 'Red and White' store cost 499 rubles. It didn't seem too expensive at first, but when I started looking inside the box, I realized that it was actually pretty packed with goodies.
New Year's Gift 'Gift From The Little Horse' from the 'Red and White' storePackaging-wise, the gift is in a cardboard box that's been nicely wrapped. On the side of the box, it says that there are 11 gifts inside. New Year's Gift 'Gift From The Little Horse' from the 'Red and White' storeEven on the back of the box, it tells you exactly what's inside the gift. Gift contentsOn the bottom of the box, it even tells you where each item was made and what materials were used. It turns out that almost everything inside was made in China, except for the coloring, which was done in Russia, and the modeling clay, which came from Belarus.
Gift descriptionWhen I opened the box, I was a bit surprised to see that the horse figurine had a pretty messy mane. I'm not sure if that's what they were going for, but it's definitely... unique.
New Year's Gift 'Gift From The Little Pony' from the Red And White Store I have to say, the transparent window on this gift made the little pony inside look way more interesting.
When I first saw the pictures, I thought the contents looked pretty cool - at least, it would be for some kids. But when I was unpacking this set, I got a bit mixed up.
My mom actually wanted to get this gift for her grandson, my nephew. I told her, 'No way, we're not giving this to a kid.' I mean, we'll give them some stuff, but a decent gift is a separate thing.
New Year's Gift 'Gift From The Little Pony' from the Red And White Store So, what did I actually like about this gift?
The little New Year's ball was a nice touch, and the felt-tip pens were tiny - like, smaller than my longest finger. I don't know how good they are, but they'll do. If the kid decides to decorate the ball with their own artwork, that's a bonus.
New Year's Ball with Felt-Tip Pens The tattoo stickers and the stick-on decorations are usable, and I think the kid will find them interesting - at least, for a little while.
Tattoo Stickers and Stick-On Decorations The modeling clay is definitely going to come in handy - we can make an ornament, a star for the top, and little balls for the tree.
New Year's Gift 'Gift From The Little Pony' from the Red And White Store The modeling clay is bright, and each package has an expiration date on it. As for the quality, I'm not sure, but it seems okay.
Modeling Clay The glow sticks are definitely going to be a hit, especially during the winter - we can stick them on a jacket or backpack. Plus, they're bendy, so the kid will have fun with them.
Glow-in-the-Dark Sticks This coloring book with New Year's designs and various tasks is perfect for a kid's development and leisure time. Coloring Book with Tasks The quality of this coloring book is great - the pages are white and don't show through.
Coloring Book with Tasks I'm not a fan of the squishy thing in the set - the Christmas tree is a symbol of the holiday, but not all kids love it. Our little one actually can't stand it and doesn't like touching or playing with soft things.
New Year's Gift "Gift from the Little Hare" from the Red and White Store This charm is more suitable for older kids or those who love this kind of thing. Our little one's parents put it on their backpack, but he's not really into it. I once hung a Magnet charm on his backpack, then they put a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles charm on it.
In the end, I took the little hare and hung it on my bag, so it can swing around this winter.
Charm What I disliked most about this gift was the main toy - the little hare. The first time I saw it and picked it up, I thought it was such a cheap toy.
The hare's mane is of such poor quality that it feels unpleasant to the touch and falls apart in pieces.
New Year's Gift "Gift from the Little Hare" from the Red and White Store The toy is 17 cm tall, it's small, lightweight, and made in China from polyester.
Information about the Hare on the Label This toy smells old and musty, and when you touch it, you can feel like it's covered in dust. I wanted to throw it in the washing machine and iron it, but I was afraid the fur would fall off.
In some places, threads were sticking out of the hare, and something was stuck to the velvet saddle.
I have to say, the mane is a total mess, and the fur is sticking out in some places. There are even some hard bits on this fur.
If the pony didn't even have this fur on its legs, it would be kind of cool, I guess.
I tried to tidy up the pony a bit, brushed its mane as best I could, but it didn't really make a huge difference. It looks a bit better, I suppose.
I'm not sure about the boy, maybe little girls would like this kind of pony, but I think kids over 4 would probably not appreciate it. Unless they're really not picky, I guess. Our kid isn't really into stuffed animals like this, he's got a teddy bear that calms him down, and he's got Basko, which we got him, but he doesn't really play with other soft toys. So, we won't be giving this pony to our nephew.
But I did end up with a prince on a red horse.
Iggy got taken away by my mom and put in a row with her other toys and forgotten about.
I wouldn't give New Year's gift 'From The Little Pony' from the Red and White store to a kid, and I definitely wouldn't want it to be given to my kid.
Yeah, 500 rubles isn't a lot of money, but you can still get a more interesting toy for that price, one that kids will actually play with or keep as a memory.
I think the fillings in this gift are worth it, but maybe I'm just being picky. Maybe something will actually appeal to a kid, since every kid is different.
I'd rather put together a gift myself, based on the kid's preferences. But these kinds of gifts are a convenient option when you don't want to go to the trouble and just need to get something to make a kid happy.
Thanks for taking the time to read my review!
