I decided to spend New Year's at our dacha, a cozy little house in the countryside, and it felt like the perfect opportunity to bring back some childhood memories. We brought some of my grandmother's furniture and decorations to make it feel like home, and the centerpiece of our decorations is a big, plush carpet that's become a favorite among our friends and family. They love taking selfies in front of it and reminiscing about their own childhoods.
So, we're spending New Year's at the dacha with our loved ones, and I wanted to add a personal touch to one of the rooms. I set up a small Christmas tree from Fix Price, hung some garlands, and made a few New Year's flags. When I was a kid, my mom would always decorate the room with these exact same flags, and I couldn't find the original ones, but I found a similar set online.
The flags I'm talking about were ordered from V.B., and they come in booklets that you need to cut out yourself. I ordered two booklets, and they smell like colored paper or cardboard. The cover has the flag's name and the artist's name on it, along with some examples of the designs. The best part is that the designs are arranged in a way that lets you cut out the smaller flags and use them as decorations too. Just make a few holes on the sides and tie them to a string or twine.
The other side of the booklet has a step-by-step guide on how to cut out the flags, which is super helpful. It tells you to open the booklet in the middle, carefully unfold the staples, separate the pages, find the dotted lines on the back of each page, cut along the dotted lines to separate the flags, cut off the triangles on both ends of the flags along the dotted lines, place a piece of string on the inside of the flag, along the fold, apply glue to the dotted area, and fold the flag in half. Then, press the two sides together firmly and make a loop on both ends of the string so you can hang the flag easily.

Make a loop on both ends of the string so you can hang the flag easilyThe flags are sturdy and made of a type of cardboard that's similar to what kids use for crafts in school or daycare. They're easy to cut with scissors, and the illustrations are bright and festive, just like the ones from my childhood. They're even better than the ones I had back then because they're more durable and made of cardboard.
New Year's Flag Set. Zarin V.New Year's Flag Set. Zarin V.For convenience, there's a guide on how to cut them out, which is super helpful. It's not rocket science, but it's nice to have some guidance.
To assemble the flags, you need to remove the staples, separate the pages, and cut out the designs. According to the instructions, you should apply glue to the string and attach the flags to it, then hang them on the Christmas tree as a garland. This way, the flags won't fall off.
Since our dacha's Christmas tree is small, I decided to hang the flags from the ceiling, just like my mom used to do. I tied a string to the ceiling and hung the flags from it. It looks amazing, and the kids love it.
New Year's Flag Set. Zarin V.The flags are big and make a great decoration for the room. They don't fall off, even without using glue. The kids love them, and I might just get another set for their room at home. They're a great value for the price, and I highly recommend them for decorating your room or Christmas tree.
I'm super happy with my purchase, and I think they'd look great on any Christmas tree. They're a fun and easy way to add some personality to your decorations.
Wishing you a Happy New Year!
