Specifications
Hello.
I have to say, I was thoroughly unimpressed with the School of Seven Bins 0+ course. I'll leave a link to it in my other reviews. But the ready-made course 1+ we got was a pleasant surprise, and I decided to buy the next course from the School of Seven Bins. Plus, there was a discount in the children's world, and I used my bonuses, so I paid 1906 rubles for the whole year's course with stickers. I think that's a great value for the money. The 'Surrounding World' course cost me 522 rubles.
I'll start by talking about the course itself, and then I'll review each book separately. This isn't a year-long course, so I'll be writing separate reviews for each part. I ordered the product through the app and picked it up at the children's world. Everything was well-packaged. The books are in a cardboard box and additionally wrapped in plastic.
One thing that really threw me off was the lack of a clear sequence in which these books should be studied. In the 0+ and 1+ courses, there was a clear sequence of which book to study next. Here, there's none. If you follow the order of the books, it gets confusing. In my opinion, it's more logical to study animals from the zoo than from the village.
And, to be honest, when I took out these books, my son immediately reached for the book about transportation. Which isn't surprising. In the end, we started with that one.
We have a total of 6 books in the course. There's a book called 'About Me' where you can record your child's achievements and successes. And there's also a separate poster.
I've read the 'About Me' book. Honestly, I won't be filling it out. I didn't do it in other courses either. Actually, I started filling it out in the 0+ course, but then I stopped. Maybe someone will find it useful.
We unfolded the poster almost immediately. My son has been interested in transportation for a long time. He has many books with different types of vehicles. So, he was interested in looking at it.
Now let's go through each book individually.
Transport
This was the first book we opened. My son was thrilled with the vehicles. He loves machines and everything related to them, so if there's a chance to learn something new, we're all in.
Personally, I think this book fits well into the curriculum. We could've even started with it earlier. My son is 1.11 years old, and I see that he enjoys it. The best part is when we start working on this book, he starts showing me that he has those vehicles too, and he brings them to me.
Overall, my son didn't learn much that was new. It's more about reinforcing what he already knows. Since he has a lot of books about transportation, which are also grouped, it's not a surprise.
However, the book is still interesting. My son really enjoys it, and that's the most important thing for me.
In the Forest
We're also working on this book, as it covers familiar animals. We're learning about vegetables and fruits that can be grown in the countryside, the differences between city and village life, and the machinery that helps with farm work. I even learned something new.
Like with all courses, the parent section is at the beginning of the book. Ideally, you should read the 'How to work with the book' and 'Lessons for this book' sections. The rest, I usually just scan through.
In the Forest
I have to say, this book is pretty interesting. My son especially loved the first page. We spent ages looking at it and studying it. To be honest, I think he already knows a lot of the stuff in there. That's because he has this awesome book - a stamp press. He learns a lot from that, and this book isn't unnecessary.
I also like how the book is organized into groups. For example, it's divided into sections like animals that live in the forest, types of berries, and so on. There's even a section on grasses and trees. To be honest, my son and I aren't particularly interested in that one.
In the zoo
I have to say, it's weird that the creators of this course keep saying that you should study this book first. I don't agree. If the kid sees animals, cars, and dogs in real life, it's easier for him to learn about them. But trying to learn about a zebra or an elephant from pictures is harder. That's what my son thought, anyway.
Anyway, I've put the book away for now. We will still work with it, and I agree that it would be better if it were part of the course from the start. I think we'll go to the zoo with my son soon, and then we'll open this book again.
Good and bad
This is another useful book, in my opinion. It has short sections with examples of how to behave well and how to behave badly.
Professions
This is also an interesting and necessary book. Although, I've already shown and told my son about different professions. I think this book won't be unnecessary either.
I've got to say, one thing that really threw me off was when they called an excavator a concrete mixer in this book. I was genuinely surprised - it was like, what's going on?!
And that was just one thing I noticed when flipping through these books. I hope it's the only mistake in the whole series. Yeah, that's definitely going to lower my rating. Parental attention to detail, anyone?!
Other than that, I really enjoyed this course. I think we'll be sticking with it, learning new things, and exploring this world.
Rating: 4 ⭐⭐⭐⭐!
