Nanny McPhee Big Bang 2010 Reviews

I recently checked out Nanny McPhee and the Big Bang, the 2010 sequel to the popular family fantasy film. Emma Thompson reprises her role as the straight-shooting magical nanny, bringing her signature humor and a dash of magic to a chaotic household. The movie follows a new family, the Browns, who are in desperate need of some discipline and love. With her unique approach, Nanny McPhee helps them get their lives back on track.

Editor's Summary

I just finished the second My Terrible Nanny and, not gonna lie, it feels just as cozy as the first. The family‑centric story stays warm, the countryside bursts with bright colors, and the nanny’s gentle humor still shines. There are a few slow spots, but it’s a solid pick for a relaxed movie night with the kids.

Hey there!

I just finished the first installment of "My Terrible Nanny". I loved it, so I was itching to see the sequel.

Plot & characters

Just like the original, the story follows a handful of kids and a nanny who shows up when the family needs a hand. Dad’s off fighting in the war, Mom’s holding down the farm, and a few extra kids and relatives drop by for a visit.

Mom isn’t just dealing with loneliness; she’s also short on cash.

To make things worse, a relative keeps trying to sell the farm, and that’s when the nanny steps in.

Where the story takes place

Most of the action unfolds on the farm, with a few scenes in town, and the cinematography sprinkles in some gorgeous countryside vistas.

There are also indoor sequences.

What the film is about

If you’re hoping for a big plot twist, don’t hold your breath. The sequel sticks to the same formula as the first: a family wrestling with their kids and a nanny who uses a little magic to teach a lesson.

There are plenty of moments that made me grin.

Other parts feel pretty didactic, but in a charming way.

It’s basically a reminder that you’ve got to stick together when life gets tough.

Because lending a hand and offering support really does matter.

And, of course, I kept hoping for the best.

Even when it feels like nothing can change.

My thoughts on the movie

Even though the sequel stays close to the original’s core, I still enjoyed watching it a lot.

I kinda knew what to expect. The story’s the same, but the characters feel fresh.

Time flew by, and before I knew it the nanny was off again, no longer needed.

I highly recommend it if you’re into family movies. It’s got whimsical moments, interesting characters, and a solid plot. This sequel turned out to be just as good as the first.

Thanks for reading!

Featured FAQ

Do I need to watch the first My Terrible Nanny before the sequel?

It helps, but you can jump in. The sequel revisits the main characters and setting, so newcomers won’t feel lost.

Is the sequel family‑friendly for kids of all ages?

Yes. The humor is gentle and the themes are wholesome, so it’s safe for younger viewers and still enjoyable for adults.

How does the cinematography compare to the original?

The sequel steps up the visuals with richer colour grading and wider landscape shots, making the rural setting look even more inviting.

Are there any major spoilers I should know about?

Only the usual family drama twists – nothing that ruins the surprise. Expect a few heartfelt moments and a resolution that mirrors the first film’s tone.

What’s the overall runtime and is it suitable for a single sitting?

At about 105 minutes, it’s a comfortable length for a weekend movie night without feeling rushed.

How is the acting performance of the nanny character?

The lead delivers a warm, believable performance that balances humor and care, keeping the audience invested.

Does the film address the family’s financial struggles realistically?

It touches on money worries in a relatable way, showing Mom’s stress without turning it into heavy drama.

Is the soundtrack memorable or just background noise?

The music is pleasant and fits the mood, though some motifs repeat, which can feel a bit redundant after a while.

Can I expect any surprise guest appearances?

A few familiar faces pop up, but they’re more like friendly nods than major plot twists.

Is the film available with subtitles or dubbing in English?

Yes. Most streaming platforms offer both English subtitles and dubbed versions.
