Editor's Summary

I downloaded My Talking Tom thinking it'd be a fun way to pass the time, and it's been a hit with my kids. The game's got a lot of charm, but the ads are getting on my nerves. They pop up way too often, and it's hard to ignore them. The game's still worth playing, but be prepared for some interruptions. I've been playing for a few weeks now, and I've got some thoughts on what works and what doesn't.

I've always wanted a pet, but it's not always been possible. But recently, my luck changed, and I got my hands on this amazing app called 'My Talking Tom'. I'll be sharing my review of it later.

My Talking Tom is a mobile game in the tamagotchi genre. It's a 3D version of the classic game Pou, but with a more modern twist. It's been translated into multiple languages and is the 14th game in the Talking Tom and Friends series. It was developed by the British company Outfit7 Limited.

Game OverviewDeveloper: Outfit7

Publisher: App Store, Google Play

Part of the series: Talking Tom and Friends

Release date: 29 November 2013 (online: 13 November)

Release date (iOS): 10 December 2013 (starting from iOS 6)

Genre: Tamagotchi

Technical specs: Platforms - PC, Mobile, Smartphone (Apple iOS, Google Android, Windows Phone, Windows 8, Windows 10)

I started with a kitten on my tablet, and it was doing great, but then I wanted to have the game on my smartphone, so I installed it on my Lenovo A536. Unfortunately, phones aren't forever, and after I changed my phone, I had to start all over again. It's frustrating, but at least I have something to remember.

My impression of the game:The game starts from scratch, with you bringing home a little kitten that's quite demanding. Kids will learn about responsibility by having a pet, and it's not just a toy - it's a new family member.

The game is about raising and feeding a little grey stray cat called Tom, which you can name yourself. In the top left corner, there's a circle with numbers and a green bar.

I love how Tom evolves with each new level - he grows, changes, and gets new features. The higher the level, the more you can get for Tom - clothes, eye color changes, and even fur. Tom's got his own wardrobe, and it's full of cool, bright stuff that'll catch a kid's eye.

At the bottom of the screen, there's a strip showing Tom's needs - when he's hungry, wants to play, needs food, or needs a break. There's also a percentage showing how much of each he's missing.

They've also added a daily bonus - playing games unlocks little chests with fun stuff inside.

I was surprised by the new 'travel' feature - it used to be just stickers, but now you get photos of Tom in different countries. It's a great way for little kids to learn about places while playing. Of course, the tickets are a bit rare, but they're there.

With the latest updates, there are even more mini-games popping up. I was blown away by how much the game has changed in a year - it's got so much cool stuff now.

I love getting coins and sometimes even diamonds in the games, but despite all the good stuff, I'm getting a bit tired of the ads. They're everywhere, and you can only turn them off for 30 seconds. If I do that 15 times a minute, that's just too much.

I've got to say, the ads in this game are super repetitive. I mean, it's not like they're even trying to mix it up. And can you imagine being a kid and seeing the same Durex ad over and over again? It's already annoying enough when it pops up in the game.

But it gets even worse when you log in through social media and can visit your friends' profiles. I've got friends who play this game, and it's just not fun to visit them because of all the ads.

This game is also super repetitive. Tom will just keep singing the same songs and repeating the same phrases over and over again.

Tom can even repeat words and phrases in a synthesized voice, as long as they're under 25 seconds long and within 10 meters of him. It's like he's actually listening to you.

And of course, there's the fact that Tom will repeat whatever you do on the screen, as long as you're just swiping your finger around. Oh, and one more thing - he's super sensitive to being tickled.

I'd still recommend this game, but I'm only giving it 4 stars because of all the ads. There are just way too many of them.

Thanks for reading!
