  • The developer, Outfit 7, does a great job of updating the app and adding new content
  • The app is super easy to use, even for a tech newbie like me

  • Some of the in-app purchases can get pretty pricey, so be careful not to overspend
  • It's easy to get sucked in and spend hours playing, which can be a total time-suck
  • The gameplay can get a bit repetitive after a while, but it's still fun
  • I wish there were more customization options for my virtual pup

Editor's Summary

I'm seriously hooked on My Talking Hank - this virtual pet app is ridiculously addictive. I mean, who wouldn't fall for those sad, brown eyes? The graphics are super cute, and the storyline is actually pretty engaging. But be warned, it's easy to get sucked in and spend hours playing. I've been using it for a week now, and let me tell you, it's been a wild ride. I've learned that with great power comes great responsibility - I need to set boundaries and not overfeed my virtual pup! The app is free to download, and while there are some paid features, you don't have to spend a dime to have fun. I've been playing it nonstop, and I'm still finding new things to do. My virtual pup will listen to me, repeat back what I say, and even get into all sorts of mischief. It's a total blast, and I'm obsessed.

Hello there, my lovely friends!

Let's be honest, no matter how old we get, we still have a child in our hearts. And I think that's just perfect!

Today, we're not going to talk about cosmetics or gadgets, but about a wild creature - the electronic puppy Hank?

So, it all started quite normally. I was a student, sitting in a boring class, browsing the internet, and stumbled upon an ad - joining the family of the ultra-cool game 'Talking Tom'. It seemed like nothing special, but the sad, brown eyes of the little puppy on the app's picture looked at me like they were begging, 'Please take me home...'. Well, I couldn't resist, and here he is. By the way, the app is free. Yes, there's paid content, of course, but no one's forcing you to buy it.

✴MAIN INFO✴

Full name: My Talking Hank.

Developer: Outfit 7.

Size: 124MB

Cost: free, but there's paid content up to $25.

Where to find: Google Play, iPay.

I'll be honest, I was familiar with the Talking Tom pet series. I even had a cat named Angela once. But this little puppy caught my attention. The main thing is that the developers promised not only great graphics but also an unprecedented storyline. I mean, although the pets are different (cat, dog, parrot, puppy), the principle is simple. You have a virtual pet that needs to be bathed, fed, entertained, and taken out. The pet grows, levels up, and as a reward, you get coins and stickers. 'Money' gets deposited into your account, and you stick the stickers in the diary. Collecting pages unlocks new clothes or food. It might keep you engaged for a couple of days, but then it gets boring. But Hank (he's also known as Bublik) promised to be special?

✴ MY IMPRESSIONS✴

There are many, so I'll break them down into points.

Installation

The app can be installed on Google Play (for Android) and iPay (for iPhone). I don't have an Apple device, so I downloaded it from Play. No issues with downloading, installing, or opening it.

Interface

When you first enter the game, you're greeted with a mini-movie about the puppy's birth. In front of you appears a little ball of fluff in the 'baby' mode. To be honest, he's the cutest at this age!

As you progress through every 5 levels, the pet will grow.

Since the game is built on the principle of 'electronic pet-repeater', you'll need to entertain, feed, take out, bathe, and put the pet to bed. Of course, with each action, the level will progress, which is displayed at the top left corner of the screen.

To entertain the puppy, you can either pet him or play mini-games.

I've found that to feed my dog, I need to press the second active button. Hank will be sitting at the table, and I need to choose food for him. To do this, I press the plate, and select the dishes. They'll be immediately transferred to the empty plates on the table. Now, I just press the treat, and my dog eats it.

Incidentally, if I give him unappetizing food (broccoli or carrots), my dog will eat it, but without much enthusiasm.

After eating, my dog usually wants to go to the bathroom. To help him, I press the third button with the image of the "ceramic friend," and the dog takes care of it himself. He's a smart one?

.Hank, like any other pet, also needs to be bathed. There isn't a separate button for this action. Near the bathroom, there's a sponge and a hose. First, I clean my dog with the sponge,

then I rinse off the soap with the hose. For each action, I get 3 coins. It's a small thing, but it's nice.

The last thing I need to do is put my dog to bed. To do this, I press the button with the moon (it's the last one), and my dog ends up in a hammock. I just need to press the sun to "change" it to the moon.

It's very important to put Hank to bed because if he's tired, he won't take pictures of animals, and we won't play mini-games.

The game's goal

As I mentioned earlier, Hank is not just a regular pet- repetition toy, although he will repeat everything you say in a funny, high-pitched voice. This is a game with a full storyline. Hank loves taking pictures of animals. He (that is, you) travels to locations and attracts animals with food and toys. There are 3 locations in the game.

The first location available to you will be the beach: sand, palm trees, and the sea - everything is perfect.

After completing 15 levels, a new location will be unlocked - the waterfall. By the way, it's my favorite.

After hitting level 40, the last free location opens up – the volcano.

I'm pretty sure there are more locations in the paid version, but I couldn't confirm that.

The principle of baiting is the same across all locations. You enter a location, and you need to put food on a plate with a plus sign. To do that, you tap on the plate. In front of you are 5 pages of different food.

Some treats are cheap, but others are pricey. By the way, not all food is available right away. It unlocks as you progress through levels. When you've chosen what you want to use as bait, you tap on the food, and it gets moved to the plate. A timer appears, and it decreases as each animal shows up. You can see it visually – like a bitten apple – and on the green timer.

Along with food for the animals, you also need to place toys. They come in two types: small and big. Small toys are only accessible to one animal at a time. They include balls, headphones, boxes, containers, and so on.

Big toys, on the other hand, are accessible to multiple animals at once. Like food, they unlock as you progress through levels. Some toys are available to beginners, while others are ridiculously expensive and almost impossible to get without spending real money, in my opinion. You need to swap toys around because different toys attract different animals.

By the way, food and toys both come in normal and special varieties. Special toys can only be bought with blue diamonds, while normal ones can be bought with coins. Special toys attract rare and special animals. More on that later.

When you've placed bait with food and toys, a timer appears at the top of the screen, showing you how long it'll take for a new animal to show up.

I have to admit, it's tempting to skip this part, but trust me, it's worth it - you'll get a ton of rewards, and we're talking about treats and toys here! Remember, right? After the time's up, the long-awaited PET will appear, and it'll bring you a gift - either coins or even diamonds. Right next to it, a new counter will appear for the next pet. And it'll keep going until you run out of food. You're not going to abandon them, are you? By the way, when the new pet shows up, you'll see a red exclamation mark on the icon. That's your cue to hurry up and take a photo. To do that, simply tap on the pet, select the focus, and then tap the camera button. At that moment, the puppy with the camera will pop out, and it'll take the photo.

Each photo will be automatically added to the album at the bottom of the screen. Your ultimate goal is to collect photos of all the animals with the required number of toys. By the way, when you collect a certain number of photos with one pet, you'll get some extra diamonds. It's not a lot, but it's nice.

Each group of pets has its own page. On it, you'll see the pets' photos and the number of collected photos. If you tap on a pet's photo, you'll see all the photos you've already taken.

So, how do you know what to use to lure a specific pet? Well, you can try it the hard way, or you can take some hints - but they come at a price, of course. There's also another trick up your sleeve - the magic potion. It costs 50 diamonds, which is a pretty penny, but when you use it (just tap on it), all the toys will instantly attract the pets. It's a real game-changer!

Now, let's talk about the pets themselves. There are three types: common, rare, and special.

The common pets are easy to lure. There are plenty of them, they come often, and collecting photos is a breeze.

Getting the rare and special animals to come to the feeder is a bit trickier. You need to buy expensive food and special toys (they're listed separately, but they cost more).

The animals themselves are worth a closer look. There are real animals, like rabbits, boars, deer, parrots, and so on.

There are extinct animals: saber-toothed tigers, or the DoDo bird.

And then there are the cute animals. Like the purple Easter bunny, the scientist crocodile, and the punk rock pig?

Mini-games

You can earn extra money by playing mini-games. There are 5 of them.

Tap-tap

The usual connect-the-dots game. Connect the sea creatures around the black parasites, and they disappear. The number of moves is limited.

Catch the monkey

At the bottom of the screen, there's a row of blue and orange blocks that you need to "catch" the monkeys of the corresponding color on: blue blocks for blue monkeys, orange blocks for orange monkeys. The monkeys come in a stream, and you can only change the position of the blocks by tapping on them.

Bubbles

This is my favorite. The goal is to fill the screen with air bubbles without hitting the fish. By holding your finger on the screen, you "inflate" the bubble. The longer you hold, the bigger it gets.

Fruit Frenzy

Honestly, I'm not really sure what the point of this one is. There are blocks that you need to break with a ball launched from a cannon. You choose the trajectory of the ball and release it.

My favorite game

I'm a big fan of classic '3 in a row' games, and this one is no exception. The goal is to get all the fish to the blue line within a certain number of moves. You do this by swapping shells to create lines of three or more.

Don't worry if it's not clear at first - you'll figure it out as you play.

Bonuses

If you're connected to the internet, you'll get bonuses, and the main one is the coconut with a surprise inside.

You tap on it, watch an ad for 30 seconds, and spin the 'wheel of fortune'. What you get is what you get - to be honest, I've never gotten more than 5 diamonds or 150 coins in one spin.

You can also get free food or a hint by watching an ad, or skip the timer for a new animal and get it right after the ad.

And of course, there are endless promotions for diamonds in real money.

My Bublik

I've been saying it from the start - I really love Hank. He's charming, cute, and not demanding at all. I named him Bublik because of the blue spot on his head.

My Bublik has already grown up, but I don't want to give him a shrinking potion. Why would I? He's taken so long to grow, and he's become dear to my heart.

So, what do I like about him?

Well, first of all, he's a contact dog. You pet him, and he'll stick out his tongue in excitement, and even ask for belly rubs.

You can poke him in the belly, and he'll scrunch up (which I never do).

You can tap on his paws, and he'll dance with excitement. Overall, My Bublik is a sweetheart.

You can even dress him up in costumes...

One of the best things about this toy is that you can dress it up.

You can even try out different hats.

And if you want, you can even change the color of its eyes.

For me, it's already a winner.

This toy is designed to keep kids engaged, and it does a great job of that.

It will listen to you through one ear, and then repeat back what it heard in a funny voice.

✴ KEY TAKEAWAYS ✴

Let's be honest, the developers put a lot of thought into making this game as engaging as possible.

They want you to play as much as you can, and to spend money on in-game items.

Eventually, you'll get to a point where you're either bored of taking the same photos or you'll set a goal and become obsessed with it.Personally, I didn't have the time or the motivation to play beyond the first 40 levels (about 3 weeks).

After that, it gets a bit slow, and I think it's partly because I'm getting older.

I'd recommend this game to kids aged 7-8 and above.

It's not just a simple toy, but it requires some effort to attract the animals.

If you're looking for a fun and engaging game, I'd suggest checking out "My Talking Hank".
