Editor's Summary
I'm still fuming after my horrific experience at this vet clinic. My normally calm pet became stressed and anxious the moment we walked in the door. The waiting area was cramped and dirty, and the staff seemed completely uninterested in helping us. When I asked about the cost of the services, I was met with a dismissive attitude and a lack of transparency. The whole experience left a bad taste in my mouth, and I wouldn't recommend this place to my worst enemy.
Specifications
I'm still reeling from the disaster that unfolded at this vet clinic, and I'm writing this review as a warning to other pet owners. My young Maine Coon cat's life was cut short due to the clinic's incompetence, and I'm not the only one who's suffered at their hands.
The staff's inability to diagnose the underlying cause of my cat's issues was staggering. When its albumin levels dropped, they decided to transfuse it without investigating the reason behind the drop. It's like they were just patching things up without actually trying to understand what was going on.
They performed surgery on my cat to remove a trichobezoar from the intestine, but they didn't remove all of it, leaving behind a huge amount of it in the intestines and stomach. To make matters worse, they didn't even bother to check if it was all removed. They just prescribed some prokinetics to boost peristalsis, which only managed to clog the remaining bezoars in one place, causing a perforation of the intestine. Despite my repeated complaints, they just attributed my cat's condition to post-operative pancreatitis. It wasn't until a specific analysis revealed that my cat didn't have pancreatitis that they changed their story.
What's even more shocking is that they didn't try to understand why my cat's hemoglobin and albumin levels were dropping. They just kept telling me that if the albumin level dropped below 16, they would transfuse it. No one even bothered to investigate the cause. It's a staggering lack of concern for my cat's well-being.
Another issue is that it's impossible for one doctor to be in charge of my cat's care. Every day, I'd see a different doctor with a different opinion. They'd do an ultrasound, but not every day. It's like they were just winging it without any real plan.
Eventually, the clinic at Fillmore tried to save my cat, and they finally figured out that it was a perforation of the intestine. But by then, it was too late. My cat had 300ml of pus in the abdominal cavity and was in a septic coma. I'm grateful to the doctors at Fillmore for trying to save my cat, but it's a testament to the incompetence of this clinic.
I have to question the surgical skills of the doctor who performed the initial surgery. How could they not check for other trichobezoars during the procedure? It's a complete lack of competence.
I'm still not over the loss of my beloved cat, and I wouldn't wish this experience on my worst enemy. But what I will say is that I wouldn't recommend taking your pets to this clinic for serious issues. It's not just this clinic – it's a lot of small clinics like this one. The staff there just aren't equipped to think critically, investigate causes, or provide proper care.
It's a shame that veterinary care isn't regulated in our area, which means they're not accountable for their actions. I've learned the hard way that I should have bailed on them on the third day when my cat wasn't getting better. But we trust that they're professionals, don't we?
One star is all I can give, and even that feels like an insult.
