My Go-To Magazine for Sewing Inspiration: 'I Sew' Delivers

summarizeEditor's Summary

I've been hooked on sewing for a while now, and 'I Sew' magazine has been a total game-changer for me. The versatile patterns and stylish capsule collections have helped me tackle the age-old question: 'what to wear?' As a petite girl, I often struggle to find clothes that fit me in stores, but sewing my own clothes has been a lifesaver. With 'I Sew', I can get patterns tailored to my measurements, and it's been a total value for money. I've learned so much from the magazine, and I'm excited to share my thoughts on what I've learned - from the basics of sewing to more advanced techniques. I've even picked up some great tips on how to choose the perfect fabrics and how to work with different textures. The magazine has a great community of sewers who share their projects and offer valuable feedback, which has been super helpful in improving my skills. Overall, I'm really impressed with the quality of the magazine and the value it offers.

I've been hooked on sewing for a while now, and I've found my perfect match in the 'I Sew' magazine. The versatile patterns and stylish capsule collections are a total game-changer for me - they've helped me tackle the age-old question: 'what to wear?'
As a petite girl, I often struggle to find clothes that fit me in stores. Either they don't have my size, or I'm stuck with a limited selection of colors and styles. Sewing my own clothes has been a lifesaver, especially when I can get patterns that are tailored to my measurements.
That's why I was thrilled to discover the 'I Sew' magazine - it's got special issues for young women, with patterns designed specifically for petite frames like mine. I love that it caters to my needs and helps me create clothes that fit me perfectly.
After trying out a few issues, I was hooked and ordered a few more. In this review, I'll share my thoughts on what I've learned from them.
MAIN INFO:
Full title: I Sew
Production: Russia
Publication frequency: several times a year + special themed issues
Price: 449 rubles
Purchase location: OZON online store
Format: A4
PACKAGING:
I usually order magazines online, and they arrive wrapped in transparent plastic. This way, I can check the condition of the magazine and make sure it's the right issue before I leave the delivery point.
Inside the magazine, you'll find a set of patterns, a transparent packaging for them, and a little bonus.
The magazines themselves are printed on high-quality glossy paper (except for special issues), with vibrant images and sturdy pages that will last for years to come.
One thing I've noticed is that the smell of the ink is pretty strong, so if you're an allergy sufferer, you might want to be aware of that. But honestly, I love the smell of fresh pages!
When I get a new issue, I love to spend some time flipping through the pics and imagining the outfits I'd love to wear.
PRICE:
I'll be the first to admit, this mag isn't cheap (449 rubles), but it's got a solid selection of universal patterns, plus some great tips and video tutorials to help you make the most of them. And the best part? Each issue has a cohesive theme, so you can mix and match patterns to create some amazing outfits.
UNFOLDING:
Unfolding the patterns is a breeze - there are only a few on each page, and they're all clearly labeled with different colors, so you can't go wrong. And when it comes to actually cutting out the patterns, it's a piece of cake, too. There are clear marks to help you match up the pieces, and even some tips on how to adjust the size if you need to. I've even used patterns from kids' issues to make my own clothes - it's amazing what you can do with a little creativity!
Sweater DIYOne of the things I love about the magazine is that there's a whole spread dedicated to adjusting the fit based on your body type.
But despite all the great resources, I still find the fitting process to be the most challenging part of making new clothes. The creators are doing their best, but we're all different, and it can be tough to predict how a new piece will fit. So, for me, the process always involves at least a couple of test runs before I get it just right.
I've been using magazines for pattern-making, but even though they're geared towards teenagers, many of the designs are way too big for me. I usually have to take in the width significantly to get a good fit.
This photo shows the unaltered, wide model of the SWITSHOT DAILY JOURNALI think it's also because I'm not used to wearing oversized clothes, and there are plenty of those in the magazine - fans of that style have already figured it out!
SEWING:
The sewing instructions are brief, to say the least. It's essentially a list of sewing operations, without much detail on how to execute them.
However, there are video tutorials available that you can watch by following the link in the magazine. They do a great job of explaining the process, so I think the brief instructions are geared towards pros who already know what they're doing.
In various social media groups dedicated to this magazine, people share photos of their finished projects, discuss how to improve the fit and construction, and share their observations - you can find a wealth of useful information there!
MY IMPRESSIONS:
I really like the variety of themes in each issue: there are women's, men's, kids', teenage, and family-focused issues. The family issues are centered around specific topics, like vacation, home wear, and they feature patterns for the whole family based on that theme.
I love that the pattern book contains a ton of basic designs, which makes it super easy to whip up some really cute and useful things for myself.
I made this outfit using the hoodie and pants patterns from the book.I also love that all the patterns in the book go together really well, and they even give you some example outfits to try out.
You can even create a whole capsule wardrobe using just the basic patterns in the book - it's a total game-changer!
The patterns in the book are really modern and on-trend, but they also have some unique touches that you won't find in just any old pattern book.
I've also been using the patterns to make clothes for my little one - I've bought a few more pattern books for kids and I'm having a blast making adorable outfits for my toddler.
Водолазка Зайка и термокальсоны, which later became the basis for a wild Indian costumeMy dad sews clothes for the same kids' collections that I used to wear, and the patterns are designed for both girls and young people.
In the end, I'll list the main
PLUSES:
You can order it onlineThey have a wide range of sizes, including small ones!Modern modelsGood video instructionsThere are groups on social mediaAdjustments for the item's fitAdvice on changing the pattern's heightThe models can be combined with each other
MINUSES:
The patterns are a bit largeYou need to make several fittings during the sewing processThe price is not cheapThe pluses are definitely more, and overall, the magazine is very useful, containing many universal patterns and helping me develop my sewing hobby! Of course, I can definitely recommend this magazine for purchase to all sewing enthusiasts!!!
