A Magical but Mixed Bag: Our Experience with the Moscow State Circus' 'Snow White and the 7 Dwarfs'

We recently had the chance to check out the Moscow State Circus' New Year's show, 'Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs', thanks to my husband's work. We don't usually make it to shows in Moscow since we live a bit far away, but the poor transportation options make these trips a whole day affair.

We arrived at 11 am and the show started at 4 pm. The circus is located near the University metro station at:

7 Vernadsky Avenue

Last year, there were huge queues on the street, but this time we didn't have to freeze our butts off. We quickly took a look around the circus and went inside.

We took our time, got changed, and had a look around. We bought some popcorn (300 rubles) and lemonade (200 rubles). There was plenty of it, and we saw some toys for sale too, but we didn't need any. The girls in the corridor selling cotton balls and popcorn were super convenient.

This time, our sector wasn't the best – we were in 'G' sector, row 12. We were sitting with our backs to the performers, but they were spinning around so much that we could still see them pretty well. We were also pretty close to the ring, which had 22 rows, I think.

The tickets cost 1800 rubles, which is one of the cheapest options.

The hall was packed, with only a few empty seats.

The show was 'Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs', a classic tale that I'm familiar with. The main characters were easy to recognize.

The Brothers Zapashny and the Moscow State Circus team have created a new show based on the classic fairy tale. Their years of experience and creative imagination have allowed them to come up with an original script that combines the classic elements of a children's show with a modern take on the story. Come and see how they've added and transformed the story with acrobats, jugglers, equilibrists, clowns, and other circus performers.

Cirque du Soleil on Vernadsky Prospect really knows how to put on a show for circus enthusiasts. We're expecting all you thrill-seekers to come and experience the magic for yourselves!

The storyline was similar to last year's (The Fisherman and his Wife), with film clips, numbers, and scenes from the movie. The director's commentary on the big screen was hilarious, and there were some pretty funny moments.

I'm not a huge animal person, but the ones in the show – elephants, dogs, seals, and parrots – were all amazing and a delight to watch.

I was really looking forward to seeing the tigers, but unfortunately, there weren't any.

The main event was the acrobats, jugglers, and tightrope walkers. Almost every number featured them, and I'm a huge fan.

I've got to say, the costumes are stunning, the bold performances are amazing, and they're all just perfectly executed in this regard. I'm completely blown away by them, and fans like me will definitely be satisfied. One thing that threw me off was how many artists were in some of the numbers – it was overwhelming with all the bright costumes and quick changes, it was hard to keep up.

I have to say, the storyline of the show was a bit dull. The music was beautiful, but some of the numbers felt dragged out, and I was already getting tired by the intro – the song was way too long. The decorations were great, especially the floating 'forest'.

I was glad to see that there weren't any clowns I'm not a fan of, so that was a plus.

We had a 15-minute intermission, and we took the opportunity to go for a walk and play some air hockey.

The one good thing about our seats was that we were right next to the screen and the mini-stage, where the artists would occasionally pop up and perform right in front of us.

There wasn't much of a 'New Year's' vibe to the show, just a finale with Father Frost and the Snow Maiden, and a collapsible Christmas tree.

I've got mixed feelings about the show. I know that tickets aren't cheap, and you can leave feeling disappointed. The show is beautiful, but it's slow in some parts and a bit dull. On the other hand, it's cool because of the acrobatics and costumes.

We probably wouldn't have gone if we hadn't been given tickets. I'd recommend it to those who understand that it's like a theatrical performance with some circus elements. But it's not the kind of circus we're used to from our childhood and what we expect.

By the way, you can buy a New Year's gift there for 950 rubles, but we didn't buy it this time. Judging by last year's attendance, it's not very crowded, so we opted for other expenses instead.

We left when it got dark and enjoyed the beauty around us again! The circus's decorations are stunning!
