A Disappointing New Year's Eve: Mondoro Prosecco Falls Flat

summarizeEditor's Summary

I picked up a bottle of Mondoro Prosecco at Auchan hypermarket just before New Year's Eve, expecting a celebratory drink that would impress. Unfortunately, this pricey Prosecco didn't quite live up to the hype. The packaging was impressive, but that's where the excitement ended. The Mondoro Prosecco's dry taste and lingering aftertaste left me wanting more, and the sulfates didn't exactly fill me with confidence. For 1900 rubles, I expected a better value for money. Maybe I'm just spoiled by other Proseccos, but this one just didn't cut it. The packaging is nice, but it's not enough to make up for the subpar taste.

We picked up a bottle of Mondoro Prosecco at Auchan hypermarket with my husband just before New Year's Eve. We splurged on a bottle, spending 1900 rubles. The packaging was impressive - it's solid and expensive-looking, complete with a beautiful cardboard box.
The Mondoro Prosecco label doesn't have a detailed description, but it's written in 20 languages - and the most important thing is that it contains sulfates.
The bottle itself has thick, transparent glass and an interesting design that looks like someone twisted it with a cord. It's a beautiful, ribbed, and twisted shape. It's a standard 750ml volume, perfect for a night in with friends or family.
Alcohol content:
- 11%
The dark brown matte foil 'cup' on the neck adds to the overall premium feel of the bottle.
The bottle even has a tax stamp, so I paid taxes and can drink peacefully - no worries there!
The label is actually the full description in Russian, not just a sticker with a brief info. Produced (composition):
White grape variety 'Glera' harvested in 2022
Date of bottling:
April 2025
Place of production:
Italy, Corso Valpine
Naturally, alcohol's not great for your health, but on a holiday, you can have a little - and the label even has info about who shouldn't drink it, including pregnant women, breastfeeding women, children and teenagers under 18, people with chronic liver, kidney, digestive organs diseases, as well as people with unstable mental health.
The Mondoro Prosecco logo.
This Mondoro Prosecco pairs well with white meat, fish, and seafood.
The wine itself is a light straw color. When I first sniffed it, I immediately thought it was sour - the scent of fresh green apples made me expect a sour taste...
To be honest, I didn't enjoy the Mondoro Prosecco. It's not the kind of experience where you want to savor the taste, and the aftertaste is bitter. This is the first time I've felt like I need to snack on sparkling wine, and it's just too dry - it's not the kind of wine I'd want to have every now and then.
The next day, or rather in the morning on January 1, 2026, while my husband was still asleep, I finished the wine with some caviar sandwiches. You know, when the wine has gone flat, the taste isn't as bad... Anyway, I wouldn't buy this wine again. Honestly, it was a shame to spend almost 2000 rubles. The value for money just wasn't there.
On the bright side, I have to say that the Mondoro Prosecco doesn't get you drunk quickly. We didn't even feel it, although we drank around 200-250 ml. My head didn't hurt afterwards either.
I have to say, I was thoroughly unimpressed with this Italian sparkling white wine. It's a real letdown, especially considering the price tag. I'll be sharing my thoughts on a much better option, the De Monsoro sparkling white semi-sweet wine, for just 450 rubles, but that's a story for another time...
The Mondoro Prosecco got a measly 3 stars from me, and I wouldn't recommend it to anyone. Ultimately, the choice is yours.
