My Mini Pomelo Taste Test: A Fresh Take on a Classic Fruit

I recently stumbled upon a super interesting fruit at Magnit - mini pomelo! I was curious to try it and find out what it tastes like.

I'm not a huge fan of citrus fruits. I love oranges and mandarins, but pomelos have been a bit of a letdown lately. They're often dry and a bit too sour for my taste. I haven't been buying them as much as I used to. But, I've been enjoying oranges all winter, so it's nice to have something new to try.

I'm always up for trying new things, and I love that Magnit brings in exotic fruits from time to time. So, even though it's not summer yet, I'm excited to give this a try!

Can you eat the skin of mini pomelo?You can find mini pomelos at Magnit. They might be available at other stores too, but Magnit seems to have their own brand.

The price was 239 rubles per kilogram, and my fruit weighed 113 grams. That's a great value for money if you ask me.

There wasn't any extra information on the label, not even where the fruit came from.

Apparently, this small pomelo is a relative of grapefruits and oranges, so it'll be interesting to try it. Plus, it's a healthy fruit.

Pomelo mini, what's it like?I decided to clean it like a regular pomelo. I didn't cut it. I just started peeling the skin with my hands. This fruit has a lot less of that white 'foam' layer. It's not easy to clean, you can feel that it's very juicy, so it starts to drip on the table right away.

When I cleaned it, it started to smell like grapefruit. Although the skin is straight from a pomelo! The fruit has a lot of seeds! Very many!

Pomelo mini, how to clean itAgain, I repeated that the fruit is very soft, it has very thin (extremely thin) membranes. Usually, pomelo membranes are hard and because of that, it's easy to divide it into segments and remove them, eating only the pulp. But here, the membranes are bitter, and it's hard to remove them because they're too thin. And the fruit is very juicy and soft. So, after a bit of a struggle, I finally managed to try it. The pulp is orange-yellow, more like an orange. Because the big pomelo pulp is pale yellow.And so, what's it like? It's exactly like the 'very juice' on the packaging. It has a lot of juice, extremely much. The juice just drips and stays on the table and plate.

Sweet? I wouldn't say it's super sweet. It's more like grapefruit. That characteristic bitterness. So, it's a bit sweet grapefruit. Pomelo, probably, it just smells The membranes of the pomelo mini are slightly bitter, and I didn't eat them.

I didn't really like it, I don't know why, I was expecting it to be sweeter. But it's like a mix of orange + grapefruit + pomelo. Very bitter, slightly sweet. Slightly softer than grapefruit, and not as sour.

Honestly, if you're obsessed with pomelo and grapefruit, you'll probably love this one too. But if you're not a huge fan of those citrus fruits, I'd say give it a miss. To be honest, I didn't feel like I was discovering anything new. Still, it's a nice change of pace! My household actually enjoyed it, especially those who are already citrus enthusiasts. To be frank, I wouldn't buy it again personally.
