Winter hit us early this year, and before I knew it, the streets in my Moscow region were blanketed with snow. Along with the snow came a visit to the nearest Magnit store, where I finally got my hands on the highly-anticipated Winter chocolate assortment from Merci, a product I'd seen online and desperately wanted to try out. The beautifully designed and oh-so-festive box of assorted chocolates, "Winter chocolate assortment", caught my eye.
"Winter chocolate assortment"I'm not a huge chocolate fan, but I do enjoy sampling bite-sized chocolate treats. And this assortment has something for everyone: dark chocolate, white, and milk varieties, each with its own unique fillings. The box itself is stylish, and I love the idea of turning the lid into a personalized postcard (for all you postcrossing enthusiasts out there, there are collectors of handmade postcards made from packaging materials).
The 250g box is compact and neatly arranged, with each mini-chocolate piece wrapped in a colorful wrapper. The chocolates are stacked like keys on a piano or the keys on my old xylophone from childhood.

The Chocolate with milk chocolate filling, apple, cinnamon, and hazelnut is marked with a dark red stripe (and was my personal favorite due to the apple-cinnamon filling).
The Chocolate with white chocolate filling and cookie pieces is marked with a golden stripe (and has a ridiculously sweet, almost cloying taste, naturally).
The Chocolate with milk chocolate filling, praline, cinnamon, and coriander is marked with a blue stripe (and takes second place in my personal ranking, as I adore the filling made from ground nuts with spices).
The Chocolate with dark chocolate filling, almond pieces, and orange jam is marked with an orange stripe (and was my least favorite, despite my love for nut-based fillings).

White chocolate is something I rarely eat. It's just so sweet that it's hard to stop at one piece... and eat it on its own without water, impossible. Inside, as promised, there are crunchy cookie bits, but I could've used more spices. Just white chocolate with cookie bits. Nothing particularly winter or holiday-themed that I noticed.
Milk chocolate is my second favorite after dark and white, and I loved both options in this assortment. The truffles with blue and deep red stripes are super soft and delicate in taste, probably due to the milk chocolate glaze, or maybe it's the filling made of delicious confectionery mass. I really enjoyed how the praline filling melts in your mouth, giving a hint of cinnamon and coriander to your taste buds, and how the apple tartness combines with warm cinnamon, milk chocolate, and a touch of spice. This is something new, interesting, and unique, exactly what I expect from a new year.
Dark chocolate with an orange taste and almond bits is pretty good too. The orange flavor comes through, and there are enough nuts, but it's still not my thing. Although, it would pair well with a slightly unsweetened, cooled-down coffee. Maybe.
