When Your Pet Gets Sick - What to Expect at a Vet Clinic
Hello everyone!
I'm writing this review because my kitty, Timoshka, recently fell ill, and I want to share my experience at the Living Planet veterinary clinic in St. Petersburg.
As a pet owner, it's always a worrying experience when your furry friend gets sick. Timoshka, my 8.6-year-old cat, had been acting sluggish and unresponsive for a while. He used to greet me at the door and show affection, but now he just sleeps all day, and even his favorite treats don't seem to interest him. He's lost his spark and just lies around in his bed, only getting up to eat or use the litter box. It's like he's lost his joy for life.
At first, I thought it was just a phase, but as the days went by, I started to worry. His appetite is still the same, but he's not as enthusiastic about eating as he used to be. He drinks water sparingly, and I've even set up a water fountain to encourage him to drink more. When my parents and their pet came over, Timoshka was a bit apprehensive at first, but eventually, they started playing together. It's been a month since they visited, and everything seemed fine, so I didn't think much of it. But now, I'm starting to worry.
His expression says it all... 'You think I'm stressed?'
🐱Location
I was a bit skeptical at first, but it turned out that the clinic is actually really close to the new shopping complex in Shushary. I had to do a bit of a detour at first, but it's all worth it. The building itself is pretty nondescript, but the clinic is right at the end of the street. I was pleasantly surprised to find that they were open even on May holidays, when most clinics are closed. That was a big plus in my book.
🐱Reception
I decided to scope out the clinic before taking my cat, Timoshka, there. I wanted to make sure they had a decent waiting area and a competent vet. The reception process was pretty straightforward - just bring your pet and wait in line. Timoshka isn't too fond of traveling in his carrier, so it was a bit of a challenge getting him to the clinic without losing his cool.
When we arrived, there were already a couple of other pets waiting with their owners. We were next in line, and while we waited, we got a chance to take in the clinic's layout. They've got a small waiting area with seats and a little shop selling pet supplies, including food and toys. It's a nice touch.
After a short wait, we were ushered into the examination room. I have to admit, I was a bit nervous at this point - I'd never been to a vet with my cat before, and I wasn't sure what to expect. The vet was a kind and gentle woman who took the time to ask us lots of questions and get to know Timoshka. She was very careful and patient with him, which was great. She diagnosed him with two conditions - Lymphoma and Nephropathy - and recommended that we run some tests to confirm the diagnosis.
The first test was biochemistry and blood lab, and to be honest, they didn't show much. But the results came back good and within normal limits, according to the phone call. They recommended an ultrasound of the abdominal cavity, which I didn't get right away since I needed to get my bearings with the timing, but I did end up scheduling it. Just in case, I decided to also send in a urine analysis, you never know what it might show or what might be off. My little Timoshka is 8.6 years old, so it's not a bad idea to get him checked out in full.
So, for the ultrasound, we showed up a bit begrudgingly, I think the blood draw was still a bit of a sore spot. We got to the appointment right on time, and our little furball was really freaking out and trying to make a break for it. The vet was super friendly and tried to calm him down, but he was still a bit squirmy. He did great, though, and the procedure was over before we knew it. After that, we got a little treatment plan and were told we'd need to follow up with some additional tests. Since the results were good, we decided to just keep an eye on Timoshka, give him some medication, and special food.
🐱Wrap-up
We really liked the clinic, the staff is super friendly and considerate. I was a bit nervous, and I brought my sister along, but the clinic was really clean, cozy, and we didn't have to wait long. They were really gentle with Timoshka, too, and made sure he was comfortable the whole time.
Overall, I would definitely recommend the Living Planet veterinary clinic in St. Petersburg to anyone who needs to take their pet there. The staff is friendly, the clinic is clean and cozy, and they seem to really care about the animals they're treating.
