Why I Think Math Notebooks Are a Must-Have for Every Student

summarizeEditor's Summary

I've been there - trying to teach my kid math at home, only to realize that the school's curriculum is lacking. That's why I'm a big fan of math notebooks. They're a must-have for every student, regardless of whether they're required in school or not. I bought these workbooks to help my son better understand the material we were covering, and I gotta say, they were worth every penny. The workbooks are divided into two parts, and this review is for the second part, which we lost the first part somewhere. I've been using these workbooks for a few weeks now, and I've seen a huge improvement in my son's math skills. He's more confident, and he's actually enjoying learning math - which is a miracle in itself. The workbooks are comprehensive and cover all the material we needed to learn, and the layout is clear and easy to follow. The price is reasonable, especially considering the quality of the content. I'd highly recommend these workbooks to any parent who's struggling to teach their kid math at home.

I've been there - trying to teach my kid math at home, only to realize that the school's curriculum is lacking. That's why I'm a big fan of math notebooks, and I think they're a must-have for every student, regardless of whether they're required in school or not.
My son was homeschooled in 5th grade due to health issues, and I was the one doing most of the teaching. I bought these workbooks to help him better understand the material we were covering. I got some resources from Chitaigorod and others from Vb.
I bought the workbooks for Vielenkin's math textbook at Chitaigorod. The second part cost 209 rubles. Both the textbook and workbooks are divided into two parts. This review is for the second part (we lost the first part somewhere, and it's gone).
Math workbook, part 2; 5th grade, for Vielenkin's "Math 5th Grade" textbook by T.M. Eryna. This educational resource meets the FZO standards. Besides the workbooks for Vielenkin's "Math 5th Grade" textbook, there are also tests for math, didactic materials, control works, and work for EGE and VPR olympiad preparation. Published in 2025 by "Exam" publishing house, Moscow. The workbook has 93 pages.Content of the second part of the math workbook for Vielenkin's textbook:
When I took a closer look at the curriculum, I was blown away by the sheer amount of material my kid had to cover in just one year. We're talking fractions, decimals, multiplying and dividing three-digit numbers, speeds, areas, parallelograms, angles, circles, cylinders, and spheres. It's a lot to take in, and I feel sorry for the kids who are being used as guinea pigs by our education ministers.Back to the workbook. What I love about this resource is the variety of tasks in each topic. For example, when it comes to circles, students will need to draw a circle using a compass, mark points inside and outside the circle, measure the diameter, radius, and so on. It's not just about memorizing formulas - it's about understanding the underlying concepts.
The tasks within each topic are diverse and engaging. For instance, when it comes to fractions, students will have to deal with equivalent fractions, compare fractions, and even solve problems involving fractions and decimals. It's a lot to take in, but the workbook does a great job of breaking it down into manageable chunks.
We didn't tackle every problem, to be honest. The more complicated ones we skipped because my son was feeling under the weather, dealing with headaches, nausea, and a fever. Luckily, my son started the 6th grade not completely clueless. I guess some things did stick in his head.
My main gripe with this resource is the lack of answers and solutions. Personally, some of the exercises stumped me, and I'm a math enthusiast. If parents and teachers are worried that kids will cheat, they can always rip out these pages and reattach them with some tape, like I did last year with a bunch of other workbooks.
I'd recommend these math workbooks to anyone who's struggling with teachers being absent from school, or getting the same old homework assignments over and over. If your kid hates writing out problems and filling in worksheets, these workbooks are a lifesaver. We've been using these workbooks to supplement our math lessons, along with math trainers and prep books for the VPR exam.
Don't get me wrong, there are plenty of textbooks out there, but I'm not convinced they cover the material thoroughly enough. I'd rather my kid learn math the right way, with a variety of resources and supplemental materials. Sure, he's not thrilled about it, but trust me, it's better than not being prepared for the OGE.
I highly recommend these math workbooks alongside the Vilenkin textbook! They're easy to use, comprehensive, and help develop critical thinking skills. Give them a try!
