Hello everyone! I'm thrilled to share my experience with MAAG, a fresh UAE-based brand that's taken over the space where Zara used to be. It's located on three floors in the shopping complex, with the top floor dedicated to men's clothing, the bottom floor for kids and women's, and it's actually bigger than the top floor.
What I love about MAAG is that each department has its own entrance, making it super convenient for people who are looking for a specific type of clothing. Plus, the store is organized by collections, with some items displayed together or in combination, making it easier to choose.
So, who is MAAG? Maag is the new name of the company that took over the Russian stores of Zara after it was bought by Fashion And More Management DMCC from the UAE in 2023. The clothes are designed by different designers and made on different factories, but they still have the same style that Zara fans love.
When I first heard about the new store, I was expecting to see the same old Zara clothes, but that's not the case. The owner of the store is different, the designers are different, and the production is done in different places. I actually found this online: Customers are still confusing MAAG with Zara, thinking that it's just a name change and the concept and clothes remain the same.
And it's no surprise, really. People don't usually dig deep into the history of a brand or its production. I'm not sure many people even know who the founder of Zara is, so I'll give you a quick rundown. Amanio Ortega Gaona, the billionaire behind Zara, has founded several retail chains with his wife, including the Zara network. However, due to his exit from the Russian market, he had to sell part of his Russian business to other UAE and Lebanese owners, specifically Fashion And More Management DMCC. And so, a new retail chain, MAAG, came into existence.
I know of three stores located in my hometown of St. Petersburg: in Europeplis, one of the largest malls in our city, in the Galleria, the largest mall in the heart of St. Petersburg, and in Mega-Parnas. The store hours are the same for all locations, from 10.00 am to 22.00 pm, with no breaks or weekends.
The store has an escalator that takes you up to the second floor - it's really convenient. The men's department was a highlight for me, with a ton of clothes in different styles and for various age groups. I was impressed by the pre-made outfit options they had on display, and they also had some items on sale, which was a nice touch.
The kids' section is a treasure trove of fun and colorful clothes, with clothes for different ages, up to 13 years old, exactly. They've got pre-made outfits, but we can mix and match clothes from different stores. I spotted some bright and bold colors, plus some more subdued tones. They also show off some shoes, and swimwear's an option, but the selection's a bit limited.
Clothing for boys is also available, with some great value-for-money options like soccer balls. I've got to say, these soccer balls are a great value for the price - the quality is really impressive for something so affordable.
The baby clothing section is also worth checking out, catering to little ones from 0+. I love that this store offers a wide range of stylish and trendy clothing for different ages. It's fantastic that one shop can cater to various styles and age groups! I think this is a huge plus for this retail chain.
One thing I love about this store is the special collection section. You can browse through and pick out something that catches your eye, then call over a consultant to help you find the perfect size. It's a super attractive feature for customers, because it's like they're saying, 'Hey, we've got something special just for you.'
MAAG offers an impressive selection of shoes in various models and colors. I was quite taken with the ballet flats, but they felt a bit stiff on me. The wooden bench in the fitting room is a nice touch, and there are mirrors on both sides, so you can perfectly see yourself from all angles.
I liked the daughter's t-shirts, interesting design, pleasant material, let's go measure. Otherwise, it happens that if I buy something, the daughter might not like it and it just sits there... I have to say, these slip-ons reminded me of my old favorites from AliExpress, which I bought ages ago.
I loved these slip-ons - they're sexy, stylish, and comfy! And I can wear them anywhere, whether I'm going out or just lounging around. The sweatshirt was white and navy blue, paired with some sporty pants. It looks great, and you can easily mix and match it with other clothes, like jeans or shorts.
I'm not a big fan of the animal prints they offer, but the tank top is a different story - it's way too tight. This top looks okay, but the fabric is way too thick for the summer. I'd be sweating buckets in it. I'd either need to wear a jacket over it or just stick to it for evening wear.
But if you're going for a more rustic look, the cowboy shirt and hat combo would work perfectly. You could even pair it with some boots from Lime - they have a great selection of unique and interesting clothing items.
This dress was a steal when I bought it from MAAG last year for 1799 rubles on a massive sale. I wrote a glowing review of this dress back then: Sensual, gentle, and romantic white mini dress — practically perfect!
This year, I picked up some awesome deals for my kids - a pair of pants for my daughter for 1700 rubles, and a long-sleeved t-shirt for my son for 700 rubles.
I've got to say, I'm a big fan of the MAAG store chain. You can easily get lost here, especially when it comes to kids' stuff - I love browsing through all the different models. And the best part? You can find some amazing deals during sales periods! Definitely worth a visit!
Thanks for reading! Wishing you all the best with your purchases, and a happy life!
