My Honest Review of the LUMINARC Idylle London Topaz Dinner Set

summarizeEditor's Summary

When I moved into my new apartment, I knew I needed a fresh start – and that included some decent dishes. I ordered the LUMINARC Idylle London Topaz dinner set, and I gotta say, it's been a total game changer for my kitchen. The set includes four dinner plates, four bowls, four cups, and four serving dishes, all with a sleek, modern design that fits perfectly with my apartment's aesthetic. I was a bit skeptical at first, given the affordable price, but I'm happy to report that this set has exceeded my expectations in every way. For one, the plates are sturdy and feel solid under my hands, which is a big plus for me. The dinner plates are a great size – not too big, not too small – and they're perfect for serving up a hearty meal. I love that the bowls are deep enough to hold a decent amount of soup or cereal without spilling over. The cups are a nice size, too – not too big, not too small – and they're perfect for hot or cold beverages. The serving dishes are a great addition to the set – they're perfect for serving up a big batch of food or snacks. Plus, the whole set is easy to clean and maintain, which is a big plus for me.

When I moved into my new apartment, I knew I needed some basic furniture and dishes to get started. My mom's hand-me-downs were nice, but it was time to upgrade.
My mom's old dishes were a mishmash of different plates and serveware sets. It was a bit of a hodgepodge, but it worked for a while.
As I settled in, I realized I wanted a nice set of dishes to display on my kitchen table. I started shopping around, but my mom's advice was to lower my expectations - the prices were sky-high. So, I scaled back my search and ended up buying a basic dinner set from LUMINARC, specifically the "Idylle London Topaz" collection.
I ordered it on Webstore, the product code is 194387431.
I paid 2105 rubles, but a few days later, I noticed the price had dropped by almost 300 rubles. Now, the price has fluctuated a bit, but I'm used to it by now.
The packaging was top-notch - a sturdy cardboard box that protected the dishes during shipping.
So, what's included in the set:
4 dinner plates
4 soup plates
4 dessert plates
4 cups
I chose the blue set, and there were other color options - burgundy, green, and grey, but I liked the way the blue matched my glasses.
When I received the package, I checked the contents at the post office to make sure everything was in one piece, because if I found broken dishes at home, it would be too late to return them. The dinner plates seemed huge at first, but I realized they're actually meant to be used as bases for soup plates. I immediately thought of my Blinny Sковорода "Масленица" from "Миллиона призов" with 26-centimeter diameters - they're almost the same size! I have to say, I was a bit disappointed with the dinner plates at first... The thin glass, even though it's shatter-resistant, just can't compare to the thickness of plates from this brand that I bought a few years ago - they're like super-thin saucers. To be honest, I don't use these plates for main courses, they're more like extra plates for serving sides or cleaning up - it's easier to have everything on one plate and not have to set multiple ones out. The diameter is 25 centimeters.
Now, let's talk about the design. The triangles radiate out from the center, getting slightly larger towards the edges.
The design is super simple.
The inside of the plate is smooth.
The triangles on the outside help the plate grip the table, so it doesn't slide around.
This plate is perfect for serving soups as a base plate. And here are the soup plates. All the dishes have the same design.
To be honest, the shape of this soup bowl was a bit jarring at first - it's nothing like my mom's old soup bowls with the raised edges. But I've gotten used to it, especially since the bowl always sits on top of my dinner plate. The height is really comfortable - I hate it when soup bowls are too deep and you have to worry about burning your hands. These bowls are just 5 centimeters high and 18 centimeters in diameter, so they fit perfectly on my dinner plate. Now that I'm looking at it, I realize that this design actually makes a lot of sense - you don't have to worry about burning your hands, and it looks really nice too. These are dessert bowls, by the way. But I've been using them for my second course, and I have to say, it's a big plus that they're not too big - I don't have to worry about piling on too much food. And, of course, there's no rim to get in the way. I've got to say, these plates are a staple in my household - I use them all the time.Hands down, these are probably the most versatile plates from this set, with a great comfortable size.
What I love about these plates is that even when you're holding them with a wet hand, you don't have to worry about dropping them - the bottom is textured and they stay firmly in your grasp. And then there are these bowls - but I'm not a fan of calling them that. For me, they're more like salad containers.
I've been using these bowls nonstop, and I'm actually planning to make some jelly in them next - it's a shame they only come in fours, not sixes... The size is just right - they don't take up too much space, but they're still super spacious! I've been using them nonstop, like when I needed to rinse some peas for a soup... I rinsed them a few times, just by applying the palm of my hand to the edge of the bowl and holding a cup under the running water - the peas stayed in the bowl, and I got a great rinse without any mess, which is super convenient. I decided to catch up on some TV, so I poured some nuts and dried fruits into a smaller bowl and took it to the couch...One thing that caught my eye was the mozzarella balls in the marinade - you have to drain the liquid, pour the whole contents of the package into a bowl, then drain the brine, and the balls are left behind.
I've got to say, these bowls are perfect for serving ice cream - they're just the right size!
And of course, as a salad bowl, this dishware is super convenient - it's the perfect serving size.
I'm generally happy with my purchase, despite some minor drawbacks with the dishware. But then I started thinking about the cost - LUMINARC brand dishware is widely available, not just in sets, but also as individual pieces at hypermarkets like Auchan, and it's actually pretty affordable.
I ended up paying an average of 132 rubles per piece in this set.
And that's why I bought the blue dinner set - it's because I also purchased the Glass Ware wine glass set of 6 pieces, art. 1724106469.
I ended up with a perfect matching set! The design even ties in, with the same diamond pattern in different sizes.
After using this service for a while, I've got a good sense of its downsides – and let's be honest, they're pretty subjective. Everyone's gonna find something they don't like or nothing at all, but for me:
- the glass is way too thin
- the dessert plates are almost borderless.
On the other hand, here are the things I really like:
+ the volume and size of the plates are perfect
+ there's a choice of colors
+ you can pick the set configuration that suits you
+ it's great value for money
+ the dishes are safe to put in the dishwasher
+ you can use them in the microwave
+ the design is simple, yet really appealing
+ after washing by hand, there are no water spots and the soap comes off completely
+ the dishes don't affect the taste of your food and don't leave any weird aftertaste.
I'd give the Idylle London Topaz tableware set from LUMINARC 4 out of 5 stars.
Definitely worth considering if you're on a budget – it's a great value for the price.
