My Experience with Liquid Dandelion - A Decent Option, but Not a Game-Changer

summarizeEditor's Summary

I recently tried out the liquid dandelion from Ozon Market and was intrigued by the various options available. While it's been years since I've had liquid dandelion, I'm glad I came back to it - the syrup is definitely more satisfying than the dry version. However, the prices for liquid dandelion are a bit crazy, and I'm not sure if it's worth the hype. If you're looking for a value for money, you might want to consider other options. I've been using it for a while now, and I've got some thoughts to share. The good stuff first: the manufacturer offers a range of products to choose from, the flavor is more satisfying than the dry version, and the packaging is nicely designed. I also appreciate that I can buy liquid dandelion in Belarus, which is a rare find. On the other hand, the flavor doesn't quite live up to the hype for me, it's not widely available everywhere, and the prices are a bit steep. Overall, it's a decent option, but not a game-changer.

Hello there, fellow reader!
I recently checked out the prices for liquid dandelion on Ozon Market, and I have to say, it's been a wild ride.
I came across a few options that caught my eye, and I'd love to try them out. I couldn't help but think of the old Soviet dandelion, which was apparently a hit with foreigners back in the day.
They'd buy it and take it back home, and it was a staple in certain regions like Rostov and Yaroslavl. But it seemed like production really did dwindle after the Soviet era, and it was only available in a few places.
It turns out that some factories in Belarus kept producing it after the Soviet Union collapsed, but the ones in Ukraine were shut down. I knew of two factories that went under in the 90s.
Fast forward to the late 90s and early 2000s, and dry dandelion started popping up. I tried it a few times, but I just wasn't impressed. It's been years since I've had liquid dandelion, but I'm glad I've come back to it - the syrup is so much more satisfying than the dry version.
The problem is, the prices for liquid dandelion are just crazy - they've gone up by at least a third in the past year. I'm being really selective about what I buy these days, and it's not just about the taste. I've tried about 15 different types of liquid dandelion, but the prices vary wildly.
One thing I will say is that liquid dandelion has a richer flavor than dry dandelion - it's a no-brainer in terms of value for money.
From a cost perspective, liquid dandelion is definitely the more economical option, and it's got a flavor that's hard to beat.
Recently, I bought a purchase through Ozon (there's the same thing on Valberis) - a lot of 2 x 200 grams, a set of two bottles of liquid extract of dandelion root under the TM "Borhill". The total weight of the product is 400 grams, which costs around 320-400 rubles.

This review is stuck due to the moderators' and robot moderators' strange quirks, and it's been stuck for a week. It's now being published with a different text than the one I intended.
xa0
🔶️ GENERAL INFORMATION
Dandelion root natural soluble liquid "Borhill" with glucose-fructose syrup, 200 grams in a glass bottle. In my case, it's a set of two bottles, and there are also 4, 6, and 8-bottle packs available.
xa0
The packaging looks neat. They sell it in a glass bottle with a reusable cap.
The weight is indicated on the packaging, 200 g/ml of the product. The size is convenient if you need to take it with you on a trip or to work.
xa0
Let's see if the weight matches the label.
xa0
I took the scales as an example and weighed one bottle. I quickly checked the empty bottle and took it for comparison with the filled one.
As we can see, the empty packaging weighs around 128-129 grams. The bottle with the syrup weighs 330 grams. The weight is honest! There's no room for complaints.
xa0
I was really impressed with the packaging from the seller. The product arrived in a cardboard box, and each bottle was individually wrapped in a plastic bubble wrap.
xa0
Borhill offers a range of products under their brand, including sublimated and dry dandelion root, as well as other herbs and blends.
They also sell liquid products, including pure dandelion and extracts of hawthorn, hawthorn berry, and blackthorn.
shi hawthorn berry blackthorn mixed extracts
xa0
The packaging is straightforward and to the point, without any unnecessary extras.
Even the list of additional ingredients in the syrup is clearly listed.
xa0
When you buy dandelion with additives, the label looks a bit different. The same goes for buying an extract of a different flavor. The tone is always calm and consistent.
It's clear that a lot of thought has gone into the design and layout of the label.
xa0
The label sits perfectly on the bottle, with no signs of defects or issues with the application.
xa0
From the product description
Looking for a morning pick-me-up without the jitters? Borhill's dandelion root coffee alternative is just what you need. This 100% natural product has a rich aroma and a bold flavor that's reminiscent of a coffee drink. The soluble dandelion root is caffeine-free, making it a great option for pregnant and breastfeeding moms. Plus, it's packed with inulin, which helps regulate metabolism. A single cup of this stuff will curb your appetite, normalize your blood sugar levels, and even suppress hunger pangs. And the best part? It's super low-calorie, making it perfect for weight loss.
I'm not gonna lie, this stuff won't replace your morning coffee. The flavors and effects are completely different. But hey, they can complement each other pretty well.
xa0
The shelf life is a whopping 24 months
xa0
The ingredients are in line with TU 10.83.12-025-22085818-2021
xa0
Ingredients and nutritional info
Ingredients with filler.
dandelion root extract, glucose-fructose syrup
Unfortunately, they don't specify the exact percentage of each ingredient.
xa0
The nutrition label on the back shows the values for 100g of the product.
Nutritional value 1360 kJ / 320 kcal
Protein - 4.6 g
Carbohydrates - 75 g
Fat - 0.01 g
There's virtually no fat in this stuff. The high carb count is due to the glucose-fructose syrup added to the mix. And because of that, the protein content is lower than in other similar products.
xa0
The manufacturer could be one of several factories.
On the lid of the bottle, there's a letter that indicates the producer. In my case, it's letter A, so I'm looking at who made it.
xa0
The producer is OOO "KCK "ARONAP", Yaroslavl Oblast, Rostov.
xa0
When I opened the bottle, I was greeted with a calm aroma. Thanks to the glucose-fructose syrup, I didn't get that familiar, slightly burnt smell that I've experienced with other similar products. The aroma isn't as strong as some of the other ones I've tried.
xa0
⚠️ On the label, it's written that after opening the packaging, you should store it in the fridge at a temperature of 4(±2) °C.
xa0
🔶️ PREPARATION
xa0
The preparation method is indicated on the packaging. I'll just repeat it.
Recommended preparation:
Mix 0.5–2 teaspoons of cicoria with 150ml of hot or cold boiled water in a cup, stirring well. You can add sugar, milk, or cream to taste if you like.
xa0
I grabbed an empty cup that holds 250-300ml.
I poured in 90-degree water from my thermos.
I opened the cicoria syrup bottle and mixed in two teaspoons.
xa0
I tried mixing it less than I did with another similar product, but the flavor is mild and not very pronounced.
The syrup is thinner than the one from the Energy Tsar and more runny.
The syrup dissolves well and colors the water. The smell is calm, even when you hold the solution up to your nose.
xa0
I've been trying it without adding anything else.
xa0
The flavor is calm. Unlike most flavorless powders, this one actually has a taste. I noticed that the flavor is similar to the dry chicory from the same factory and the TM "Borhill" series.
If you let the solution steep for 7-10 minutes, the flavor gets even better.
You can get an even more interesting flavor by adding 10% cream.
xa0
❗️ It's easy to adjust the amount to your taste. Start with 1 teaspoon per 150ml.
xa0
I tried it at work (outside the office zone).
Here are two teaspoons of syrup.
The drink has spread out well. xa0
🔶️ COST AND VALUE
xa0
It all depends on the concentration of the drink and how often you consume it throughout the day.
I've found that the powdered type of chicory I like to use has a decent flavor, so I usually add 3-4 teaspoons to my cup. Typically, we sell packs of 85-100 grams.
With this amount, you'll get about 4-5 days of use if you drink it 4-6 times a day. At this point, the flavor is pretty neutral. The cost of this pack ranges from 75 to 450 rubles, with an average price of 250-280 rubles today.
xa0
It's a bit better if you get a 200-gram pack of the same chicory I mentioned earlier, BigBio (link to my review). This pack will last you 10-14 days with the same consumption. The flavor is pretty much the same as the liquid version. The cost of this dry chicory is 89 rubles per pack, available at the Chizhik network. I haven't seen it in other stores.
xa0
Considering the flavor, Borhill seems like a more interesting option.
xa0
When it comes to flavor.
If you opt for the dry version, Elza is the only brand available. The cost is 280-450 rubles for 100 grams, which will last you 8-14 days. The flavor is noticeable, but not as intense as the liquid version.
xa0
The 300-gram syrup "Энергия Ци" has 150 servings, according to the label. I'm not sure who that's for. The flavor is good, and the cost is 270 rubles.
xa0
Finally, let's look at the current syrup from "Borhill". A 400-gram pack will last you 8-9 days if you drink it 4-7 times a day, with a cost of 360 rubles.
I have to say, the flavor of the syrup "Borhill" is pretty mellow thanks to the added glucose-fructose syrup.
xa0
🔶️ THE VERDICT
xa0
I've been drinking liquid dandelion for decades, so I switched back to that.
I probably won't be buying this drink again. I just didn't find it had enough depth of flavor.
And that's exactly what I think the glucose-fructose syrup added - a bit of emptiness to the flavor. I'm torn between giving it a 3 or 4 out of 5 among liquid dandelion drinks.
I'll try other flavors from this brand.
xa0
❗ I want to note that with around 40-50% inulin in the product, drinking it 4 times a day will likely lead to some serious contemplation time. In other words, it helps with digestion.
xa0
Of course, dandelion won't replace coffee - the flavors are just too different.

Check out my review of dandelion from "Zelenaya Liniya"
Here's my take on dandelion from "Vkus & Polza"
And if you're looking for a classic, check out Big Cup Classic
Or if you're feeling adventurous, try Gold
I've gotta say, I started with the Aronap Petrosky Granulated Powdered and it was a mixed bag. It started off well, but ultimately ended in disappointment.
Then I tried the BigBio Natural Powdered and it was a decent addition to my routine.
