I discovered the L'atelier Parfum brand back in 2022 when they announced the release of the Opus 2 collection.
At that time, I was just starting to get into perfumery, and I was only familiar with a handful of brands and scents.
I saw the presentation for the new collection, and it really inspired me. As soon as the fragrances became available, I rushed to test them, and the one that really caught my attention was the quite unusual Leather Black (K)night.
This was one of the first fragrances that, when I smelled it, my imagination started painting a picture in my head.
And in this review, I'll be sharing all my impressions.
First Impressions
The first thing that caught my attention was the description of Leather Black (K)night by L'atelier Parfum. It's a bold fragrance that awakens adventurous desires and a thirst for risk.
The description goes on to say that fresh bergamot notes ignite a sense of adventure, while charming jasmine and a leathery chord with a subtle animalistic nuance become loyal companions on an exciting journey of discovery.
The modern, balanced composition of Leather Black (K)night, combining soft leather notes, a prickly chord, and floral delicacy, transforms into a call to exploration and discovery, inspiring those who are ready to listen.

Packaging
The Opus 2 fragrances are presented in a style similar to the rest of the brand's fragrances, with black-colored boxes and labels.
I didn't keep the box, but I couldn't help but notice that it didn't have the abstract colorful design that I think perfectly complements the fragrance.
The bottle I have is the largest size, and it's wide, flat, with rounded corners.
The cap with a wood-grain texture is a classic spritzer.
I've got to say, the 100ml bottle isn't the most comfortable to use due to its shape and size - even in my large hand, it doesn't fit perfectly.
The Scent
The perfume water has a natural yellowish tint, which is due to the components of the formula.
It doesn't leave any marks on the skin or clothes.
The composition is interesting. The scent is bold, unconventional, with a play on contrasts: bitterness and sweetness, delicate flowers and brutality.
Leather Black (K)night won me over right away, and I thought it was the coolest in this collection.
It was this scent that eventually led me to get to know the rest of the range (now I can call myself a fan of the brand, I've got most of their perfumes).
Top notes:
bergamot, pink pepper
The scent starts with a peppery bitterness. I don't really notice any citrus notes, just the bitterness of the bergamot peel.
Some people might find this start off-putting, but don't forget that top notes are just the beginning, and they're not the main event in the composition, as they'll fade away quickly.
Middle notes:
jasmine, cocoa, iris
As the scent evolves, it becomes slightly softer and warmer. What was initially sharp and bitter transforms into something more delicate, with floral notes.
The bitterness is still present, but it blends with the flowers to create a unique and intriguing combination.
I think I'm picking up more iris than jasmine here. At least, the jasmine isn't as I'm used to in traditional white floral perfumes.
The flowers are subtly hidden, accompanying rather than taking center stage.
Basenotes:
patchouli, skin
And now we've finally reached the main note of this perfume – skin. No wonder it's featured in the name.
It starts to emerge even with the flowers and chocolate, and it continues to dominate the rest of the time.
The scent sounds luxurious and refined. I'm not a huge fan of skin notes in perfumery, but this one actually grew on me.
It seems like skin is overpowering everything, but upon closer inspection, it's the other notes that give it that amazing quality. However, they're slightly pushed to the background as a result.
Since I first encountered this scent, one image has stuck in my head, the one that sums up my impression of this perfume.
It smells like you're sitting in a luxurious car with a leather interior, on a dark evening. And in your hands, you hold a massive bouquet of irises.
My association is quite different from the one on the presentation board – that one was bolder, more brutal, and even masculine.
But, I guess the sweetness of the chocolate and flowers managed to sneak into my subconscious.
When and Where to Wear
I'd say the scent is unisex, but I think it's more on the masculine side. Still, I think it suits women too. My husband, on the other hand, isn't a fan of this kind of scent, so I get to enjoy it all to myself.
I usually reach for it when I'm wearing leather – think jackets or pants. Even a hair tie can make a difference, and dark colors help bring out the scent.
It's the image I associate with this scent – an elegant lady turned into a rebellious woman.
The scent is pretty heavy, so it's not something I'd wear during the day. Unless, of course, it perfectly fits the vibe you're going for. I find it's best suited for evening wear.
I have to admit, the intensity of the scent can be overwhelming, especially on warmer days. I can only handle it on extremely cold days when the scent seems to come alive.
Autumn and winter are definitely the best seasons for this scent. It's a game-changer in the cold weather.
As for men, it might work even better, but it ultimately depends on their style and the overall look. Leather scents aren't for everyone.
Longevity
I'm not sure who's complaining about longevity, but on me, the scent lasts all day. I think it's because my nose gets used to it and I stop noticing it after a while – it's like a defense mechanism.
Others might notice it more, though – the scent is pretty diffusive.

L'atelier Parfum Leather Black (K)night – it's my guilty pleasure, but not something I wear all the time.
This scent is perfect for a certain mood and certain conditions. To be honest, there are times when I'm not in the right mindset to wear it, I'll pick up the bottle, take a sniff, and then put it back down for a while because it's just too heavy for me.
But it's so beautiful and unique!
