This tiny island in the Seychelles is a must-visit for anyone who loves cycling. La Digue is just 10km across, but it's packed with stunning beaches, a turtle farm, and a vanilla plantation.

Out of the three islands we visited (Mahe, Praslin), La Digue stole my heart. Let's get into the details.

Getting There:

We took a ferry from Praslin, which took around 20 minutes. You can also get there from Mahe, but you'll need to stop on Praslin first.

The ferry was super comfortable, a bit bumpy, but totally manageable (even my kid didn't get motion sickness).

Transport on the Island:

From the ferry to our hotel with our luggage and kid, we walked because a massive cruise ship had just docked, and there was a high demand for transfers (mostly seniors on board). We didn't feel like taking their taxi, and it wasn't that far.

You can take a taxi on the island, but it's so small that you can easily walk to most places. The best way to get around, though, is by renting a bike. They're available for rent right at the dock, in all hotels, and guesthouses, no deposits or anything. It's a paradise for cyclists, and I'm a huge fan.

We rented a bike at our hotel, and they had a kid's bike seat as well. Interestingly, no one seems to be keeping track of the bikes, and it's hard to get lost on this island (laughs). The state of the bikes, however, leaves a lot to be desired: rust, creaks (but that might just be the local charm).

Bikes and cyclists are everywhere on La Digue. It's a bike lover's heaven.

Accommodation:

La Digue has a decent selection of places to stay, and we chose a mini-hotel with a pool and apartments, Villa Source D'Argent. We stayed in an upgraded deluxe room.

Breakfasts were included, and they were great.

We really enjoyed everything - the location was perfect (you can easily walk to the main attractions), there's a shop and a cafe nearby. The pool was great, especially on rainy days.

We mostly cooked in the room, and we loved sitting on the veranda, enjoying the company of the cat and watching the flying foxes.

Occasionally, we'd get takeout, and it looked a bit unappetizing, but it was actually really tasty. We didn't go to any restaurants, as we had a child with us, and the service can be quite slow on the islands, plus the prices are a bit out of this world.

Flora and Fauna:

I was blown away by the sheer beauty of it all. What's better than cycling around these places and then cooling off on a fantastic beach?!

There were sea turtles roaming freely - we'd often spot them, and they were amazing.

And there were free-range chickens.

There were plenty of colorful birds and flying foxes (but they're hard to catch on camera, as they fly at night).

And there's a little crab.

The island is incredibly green - it's a feast for the eyes.

Must-see spots:La Digue's calling card is its granite beaches, and they're absolutely stunning.

La Union Estate is a must-visit, where you can check out a turtle farm (from tiny hatchlings to long-lived giants), a vanilla plantation, and the Instagram-famous beach Anse Source d'Argent. La Digue is a must-visit for anyone who can make it here. I highly recommend stopping by.
