My Honest Review of L'Oreal Paris Volume Million Lashes Mascara

I'm a huge fan of L'Oreal's makeup products - they've become legends in the industry. And the L'Oreal Paris Volume Million Lashes SO COUTURE mascara is one of them.

I've had this mascara on my shelf for a while now, but I only recently got around to trying it out. I'd already tried other products from the same line, but this one was the last one left. In this review, I'll share my thoughts on it.

Quick rundown:

Price: 435 rubles, which isn't bad for a high-quality mascara.

Where to buy: I picked it up at a Letuall sale, where they were offering some amazing discounts. You can also find it at any cosmetics store.

Volume: 9.5 ml, which is a decent size for a mascara.

Effect:

It gives a subtle volume boost with impeccable separation.

Design:

The design of the Volume Million Lashes line is already a classic. It's a perfect blend of understated style and attention to detail.

Each product in the line has its own unique color scheme, and the So Couture version features a beautiful purple and gold combination.

I appreciate how many brands now include a picture of the brush format on the packaging. It's super helpful when you can't test it in-store.

I was a bit surprised to find that the size of the product is only 1:1 in reality, and the volume of the brush is actually a bit overestimated on the packaging.

The Brush:

It has a unique shape that's similar to a sprouting seed, with cone-shaped bristles that cover the entire surface of the brush in neat rows.

When you look at it from the side, the bristles are arranged in a chessboard pattern. The length of the bristles varies and decreases from the base to the tip, making them almost invisible at the end. In contrast, the example from the tube shows them more clearly.

The cap on the tube is not bad, but due to the shape of the brush, excess mascara still manages to seep onto the nozzle and accumulate under the cap. After using it for a while, I've already accumulated a thick layer. As a result, I end up wasting some of the product.

Features:

Color:

The mascara has a rich, dark black color with a matte undertone. What I liked is that after it dries, the color doesn't fade to a grayish tone, but remains vibrant.

Consistency and texture:

The texture is uniform and gel-like. As for the consistency, it was initially quite runny when I first bought it, so I decided to wait for 2-3 weeks before using it again. When I picked it up after that, it had thickened slightly and became more suitable for application.

Smell:

I don't get that distinct wax-like aroma, but there's a light perfumey scent.

My lashes:

They're not particularly dense or voluminous, so when choosing a mascara, I always opt for products that can help with those issues.

Ideally, I'd love to see more length, but since I started using lash growth serums, that's no longer a concern for me.

My impressions:

When I first tried Volume Million Lashes So Couture, I was totally baffled. It applied a super thin layer to my lashes, and the color was basically invisible. Either it was supposed to be a subtle look, or it just didn't show up at all. I wrote it off as the liquid consistency, so I didn't jump to conclusions and put it aside for a bit.

For some reason, L'Oreal often has this weird thing where their mascaras are just okay at first, but then they become amazing. It's like the consistency needs to get just right, and then they're easy to apply and look great.

At the application stage, I have no complaints about Volume Million Lashes So Couture. The brush is super comfortable to hold, and it coats my lashes evenly from root to tip.

The gel texture of the mascara wraps each lash individually without weighing them down, so my makeup looks effortless and natural. I also love that my lashes don't stick out like little sticks, but instead have a smooth, even tip.

Honestly, the spool for my lashes barely lifts them, so I use a curler and then set the shape with mascara. It stays in place all day. I also appreciate the great separation without clumps. To be fair, I didn't notice a huge increase in volume. I mean, it's not like it was given to me naturally.Overall, the visual effect with Volume Million Lashes So Couture mascara is exactly what I'm looking for. It looks effortless and natural, without losing any expression, whether I'm wearing one or two coats.

For comparison, here's the mascara on my lashes in one and two coats: Bare lashes/mascara:

Longevity: I've been using this mascara for 4 months now, and I haven't had any issues. I've worn it in the rain and snow, but I haven't noticed any problems like circles or black streaks under my eyes.

I'm happy to report that So Couture mascara doesn't smudge throughout the day. In fact, the more I use it, the thicker it gets, but it still applies smoothly without any clumps.

Removing the mascara:

I've tried removing it with micellar water, oil, and a hydrating balm, and it comes off easily in all cases. The formula is definitely easy to work with when it's time to take off your makeup.

The verdict:

I wouldn't say So Couture has become my go-to mascara, but it does have its strengths. The brush is comfortable to use, the formula applies easily, and it looks great on my lashes - especially if you're after a natural look without too much drama. As for volume, I didn't get the dramatic results I was hoping for, but overall, So Couture is a solid mascara that's worth checking out. I'd definitely recommend it.
