Hello everyone!
I'm super excited to share with you our final stop on our Sunday adventure in the beautiful Bashkortostan region - the Kuk-Karauk waterfall.
I'd heard about this waterfall for a long time and was really eager to visit it. Everyone who's been there has their own description - it's a small stream flowing merrily over the rocks, a powerful cascade, and the sound of it is almost deafening before you even see it.
From my review, you'll learn what the waterfall looks like in early June.
Getting There
The Kuk-Karauk waterfall is located in the I shim baisky district of Bashkortostan. I'm still amazed by how beautiful this region is - from waterfalls to caves, mountains, and untouched rocks.
The closest settlement to the waterfall is the village of Makarovo, but you still need to drive 7 km along the old Beloretsk road. The road after the village is pretty rough.
It looks like the photo below, but it gets worse the further you go. If you have a low-clearance vehicle, it's best to avoid it - you might end up with a flat tire.

The best way to get there is by car. You can also take an excursion group from Ufa, the regional capital - it's about 170 km away.
What's the Waterfall Like?
The Kuk-Karauk waterfall is a natural monument.
Kuk-Karauk Waterfall Bashkortostan reviews
The waterfall is about 12 km high, but it's more stretched out horizontally than vertically. It has several cascades and steps.
Kuk-Karauk Waterfall Bashkiria reviewsWhen we arrived, the waterfall was basically a small stream running down the rocks, looking pretty lively, but it was clear we'd missed the peak flow after a dry spell.
Kuk-Karauk Waterfall Bashkiria reviewsSome parts were almost completely dry, but you could tell there used to be a lot more water flowing.
Kuk-Karauk Waterfall Bashkiria reviewsIt was still a pretty cool sight, though.
Kuk-Karauk Waterfall Bashkiria reviewsThe water was a light blue color, but it can also take on a coffee-with-milk hue due to mineral deposits.
Kuk-Karauk Waterfall Bashkiria reviewsWhen we visited, there weren't too many people around, so it was easy to get a spot to take some photos.
Kuk-Karauk Waterfall Bashkiria reviewsSome folks were even filling up their water bottles from the stream, which is always a good sign for the local ecosystem.
Kuk-Karauk Waterfall Bashkiria reviewsOverall, it was a really beautiful spot, and I'd definitely recommend checking it out if you're in the area.
Cuk-Karauk Waterfall ReviewsI decided to take a sip of the water from this source and was surprised by its softness and taste.
Cuk-Karauk Waterfall ReviewsBe careful, as there are snakes around the waterfall.
Cuk-Karauk Waterfall ReviewsThe name Cuk-Karauk comes from combining two words: 'blue, heavenly' and 'noisy'.
So, it's a blue and noisy water.
What's more, this place is notable for having two rare, red-listed plants growing on its edges:
the northern wood fern and the hybrid nettle.
The surrounding area is forested and rocky, with cliffs nearby.
Cuk-Karauk Waterfall ReviewsWhat Else is Near the Waterfall?
Between the village of Makarov and the waterfall lies the Kalm-Uscan Cliff, also known as the Salavat Cave (I wrote a review about this place, link below).
On the left bank of the river, you can see the ruins of an old stone bridge built during the reign of Empress Catherine II.
When I heard about the bridge, I really wanted to see it. But I'm not sure if the stone ruins in the photo below are actually the bridge. Can anyone help me out?
Cuckoo Falls Bashkortostan ReviewsIf you've ever been here, you'll know what I mean.
Cuckoo Falls Bashkortostan ReviewsOn one hand, these rocks don't look like a bridge at all.
Cuckoo Falls Bashkortostan ReviewsBut on the other hand, the shapes are just too perfect, and the boulders are stacked on top of each other like some kind of construction.
Cuckoo Falls Bashkortostan ReviewsIt's like it's actually some kind of structure. Anyway, if you know what I mean, write it in the comments below.
There's also a metal structure near the waterfall that warns about the death of a geologist named Reutov.
You can spot some small grottos near the bridge.
Cuckoo Falls Bashkortostan ReviewsMy Impressions of the Visit
I'm glad I finally got to see this waterfall. I've been wanting to visit it for three years now. The interesting thing is that the things that are close to us, we often put off until later, while the things that are far away, we rush to see as soon as possible.
I really enjoyed this place, and it was nice to sit on the rocks near the waterfall and listen to the soothing sound of the water. It was especially nice to dip my tired feet in the water at the end of the day.
So, if you're planning to visit this place, make sure to bring some water, a hat, and a snack. And don't forget your camera or phone to capture the beauty of the Kuk-kara waterfall. Even though I've already been here, I'd love to come back in the spring to experience the full force of the waterfall.
Thanks for reading the review. I hope it's been helpful for you. Give it a like and leave a comment if you have any thoughts!
Wishing you all new adventures and amazing travels!
