Lviv's Kryivka Underground Restaurant

This place is a real gem. You'll feel like you're in the heart of Ukraine, minus the long flight. The Ukrainian cuisine is authentic, and the cozy ambiance will make you want to linger. It's the perfect spot for a unique dining experience.

A Major Letdown at Kryivka: What Went Wrong

summarizeEditor's Summary

I've been to Lviv three times, but this year's visit was a total letdown thanks to my experience at Kryivka. The service was a disaster, and the food was a huge disappointment. The only saving grace was the interesting interior, but that wasn't enough to save the day. I was really looking forward to trying it out, but boy, was I let down.

A Major Letdown at Kryivka: What Went Wrong
I've been to Lviv three times, but this year's visit was marred by a huge disappointment - my experience at Kryivka. I was really looking forward to trying it out, but boy, was I let down.
The interior of Kryivka is definitely interesting, but that's the only plus I can give to this place. The service, on the other hand, was a total disaster. Our waiter seemed completely uninterested in helping us, and when we asked for recommendations, he just told us he was too busy. We had to wait ages for our food, and when it finally arrived, there were no utensils on the table. I mean, how hard is it to get that right?
Service Issues: The service at Kryivka was subpar. Our waiter was unhelpful and seemed overwhelmed. We had to ask multiple times for basic things like utensils and recommendations. It felt like they were short-staffed, but that's no excuse for poor service.
But the real kicker was when my friend ordered the meat in beer. The menu said it would be a decent-sized portion, but what we got was a tiny serving of what looked like stewed vegetables and two tiny pieces of meat. I'm not kidding, it was laughable. We asked to see the kitchen, and let's just say it was a real adventure. They tried to convince us that the portion was correct, but we knew better. In the end, we got a new serving, but the damage was done. We'd already lost our appetite.
Food Issues: The food at Kryivka was a major letdown. My friend's meat in beer was a tiny serving, and the quality was questionable. We also had to ask for utensils, which is a basic expectation at any restaurant. It's not like we were asking for the moon here.
Needless to say, we were not impressed. The whole experience was a total letdown. I'd recommend avoiding Kryivka at all costs. There are so many better places to eat in Lviv. I'd much rather go to Zenyk, where the draniki are to die for, or Shampanskaya XX, where the service is top-notch and the food is amazing. Kryivka, on the other hand, can keep its overhyped reputation.
Alternatives: If you're looking for a good meal in Lviv, consider going to Zenyk or Shampanskaya XX instead. Both of these restaurants offer better value and a more enjoyable dining experience. You won't regret it.
I'm not going to bother taking pictures of the food. It's just not worth it. If you're looking for a good meal in Lviv, look elsewhere. There are plenty of other restaurants that offer better value and a more enjoyable experience. And let's be real, you don't want to end up like us - disappointed and hungry.
The Verdict: Kryivka was a huge disappointment. The service was subpar, the food was questionable, and the overall experience was a letdown. Avoid it like the plague.
