Hello there! I'm super excited to share with you my experience at the amazing and completely free ice sculpture exhibition 'KronshLod', which is happening until the end of the week at the Peter and Paul Fortress near Naryshkin Bastion.
Naryshkin BastionIf you're in St. Petersburg right now, don't miss it! And if you're elsewhere, I'd recommend just checking out the photos of this incredible event.
From March 8th to 17th, 2024, near the walls of Naryshkin Bastion, the 'KronshLod' ice sculpture festival will take place. The festival will bring together the best sculptors from all over Russia. Admission is free.
KronshLod Ice Sculpture FestivalThe sculpture festival is held in a pavilion that's kept cool, so I'd suggest dressing a bit warmer. It's around +3 outside, but inside it's a bit below zero, and my hands got a bit chilly.
Exhibition hours are from 11:00 to 19:00
KronshLod Ice Sculpture FestivalThe queue when I went was super small. They have a security check, but it's quick, and they don't really check your stuff - just ask you to open your bags.
KronshLod Ice Sculpture FestivalAfter security, you're transported into a winter wonderland!
KronshLod Ice Sculpture FestivalOver 200 tons of river ice were used in the exhibition.
KronshLod Ice Sculpture FestivalThe sculptures are all about St. Petersburg, so you'll see all the main attractions: bridges, churches, and even the Zenit-Arena.
KronshLed Ice Sculpture FestivalKronshLed Ice Sculpture FestivalWhat really stood out to me was the lighting! I've been to ice sculpture exhibitions before, and they've always charged an entrance fee, but the lighting at this one was top-notch. The colorful lights made each sculpture look absolutely magical.
KronshLed Ice Sculpture FestivalKronshLed Ice Sculpture FestivalI also noticed a fun little detail - almost every sculpture featured a cat or a cat image. As a cat lover, I appreciated that.
KronshLed Ice Sculpture FestivalI saw a lot of nautical-themed sculptures - boats, sailors, fishermen. I was really impressed by the skill of the artists who could create such beautiful works from such a finicky material.
KronshLed Ice Sculpture FestivalKronshLed Ice Sculpture FestivalKronshLed Ice Sculpture FestivalI actually just got back from a warm-weather vacation the day before I visited the festival, and this was the perfect antidote. My beloved hometown of St. Petersburg looked stunning in all its icy glory.
Ice Sculpture Festival "KronshLod" Ice Sculpture Festival "KronshLod"Honestly, I'd totally go to this exhibit even if it wasn't free. But since the city gave us this awesome gift, I think it'd be a shame to miss it. And have you seen the kids' faces when they see the exhibit? It's a total family-friendly event, if you ask me!
